I just want to throw it in there that I've done this too. Yup, multiple times in the past. My reasoning was (and still pretty much still is) that if it's not directly touching something nasty, it's safe, lmao. I haven't done this in a while, although I've been tempted.

I can sympathize as well. I have made entire batches of cake or brownie mix just to satisfy my craving. They used to be just uncontrollable cravings. The waste basket or kitchen sink isn't enough of a deterrent for me... While I have learned more healthy (and effective) coping techniques, I would need to drown the bowl in dish soap first or put it in the trash on top of the dog waste for me to decide that it wasn't worth going after. Sometimes we have to learn tricks to protect ourselves from our own self!

Yeah...I've done it.

One time I made a strawberry cake with cream cheese icing. After eating half of it I dumped it in the trash, so I wouldn't eat the other half. Before the night was over I dug that dang cake out of the trash and finished it off!! It was still on top, but STILL!! Crazy!!!

I have a friend who would spray Windex (or whatever the closest cleaner is) on food so he wouldn't eat it lol.

Funny the things we do!

The honesty of all your responses strengthens me. I am smiling and wiping away tears.
I have never actually dug in the trash, but I have stood over it, staring inside with tears in my eyes wondering what is wrong with me.
When I used to go to restaurants, I would ask for two plates and put half the food on another plate and pour salt all over it to ruin it so I wouldnt eat the whole portion. I got some crazy looks from the waitresses!
But I knew that I would stuff myself if I didnt do it.

I totally understand, I have to actually open the package and dump in our curbside trashcan outside (it's a disgusting trashcan) before I can get trigger foods out of my head. One time, I bought a bag of Godiva dark chocolate and was great at eating just one a day as a treat (and it's good for me!) -- that went on for about a week and then one day, I started going crazy on them. After eating a dozen or so, I had to open each individual chocolate and throw them away outside. Had I just thrown them in without removing them from their wrappers, I would've definitely fished them out and eaten them.

I can't keep brown or powdered sugar in the house, or peanut butter, because I will eat them if I am triggered. I am just resigned to never having trigger foods in the house (and I have some weird ones!) - ever. It sucks, but when I get triggered, I just can't have it here.
