I also make my own pizza. I buy a small thin crust (3 in pkg) and mostly make it with shrimp, mini-scallops, green onion, very little pizza sauce and fresh mozarella cheese. Sometimes I make all veggie pizza. I manage to come under 300 calories most of the time, and there are no leftovers!
I also love to make my own pizza and I'm going to start doing that again! The Flatouts are delicious, I have tried them. Actually, I have found that when I create my own versions of favorite foods, I cut a lot of calories. Another favorite is Chinese food, and I know what I make at home is so much better for me than takeout.
As for my wine, I have been buying the little mini-bottles (that come in 4-packs) and having two or three of those. I know to most people, that still sounds like a lot, but for me, it's not. It's much easier to have less because I'm not looking at a bottle seeing maybe just another glass left in it, so that "well I might as well finish it, there isn't much left" mentality does not kick in.
I know it is my choice as to how healthy I want to be. In the past, weight loss has always been more about how I looked rather than about my health. Now, I've started thinking about it for my health, and knowing that I want to feel good.
You guys are awesome by the way!

Hi kiwigirlnz,
Welcome!
I'm a newbie myself, so I'm glad to meet you.
Sounds like you are off to a great start, just think about it one day at a time
Glad to have you here!

What's your diet plan?
I've found, over years of losing weight and regaining all of it back, that I was definitely restricting myself too much, which always led to binging.
Also, you've only been on the diet 5 days...it does get better. This place is awesome, when I'm thinking about boredom eating or obsessing over food I come here and it helps sooo much.

Congrats on losing 4 lbs. We gain weight a pound at a time (and it adds up!), and that's how we lose it - pound at a time. If you keep at it, the weight loss will add up. Just focus on small goals, like 5-10 lbs per month, and eventually you WILL lose all the weight you want to lose. At this point I have to lose 30-35 lbs and think it's a lot, but I am saying to myself that I only need to lose 10 lbs, and then I'll re-evaluate.
For the past year I've dabbled in logging my food in one of the free online journals, but I'm planning to get really serious and consistent about it on January 1. It really helps to see exactly how much I really eat! I've always loved exercising with dvds, so that's not a problem for me. Drinking wine however, is. My excuse is stressful job. I recognize it's an excuse, and it's gotta go!
Good luck to you, and you WILL lose the weight. Just focus on small numbers and stay consistent.
I party a lot and I know that this has slowed my weight loss progress. After a couple of drinks I could care less about watching what I eat. And the holidays has definitely not made things easier. This is something that I do struggle with and so far I've set out a goal to limit my drinks and try to avoid the sugary cocktails. New Years is this weekend and I'm mentally and physically preparing myself for it. It will be a true test of how serious I am about changing my lifestyle....Wish me luck!
I love white wine as well!! I do not hesitate to drink the entire bottle. When I do drink, I plan it. I do not keep Chardonnay in the house. I will buy it one bottle at a time. I also do not have snack foods in the house when I drink as well... Doesn't always work, but it helps!!
I won't give it up because I don't want to give up anything in my life. Just everything in moderation and not every day!
All that said, I do feel better now that I moderate my drinking more and I do liike waking up more clear headed - even though I rarely got drunk, just tipsy, I still felt fuzzy headed in the am. Because I now feel a difference, the planning now comes in handy since I have to plan on sleeping in the next day
My issue is that wine and snack foods go hand in hand. If I decide to have wine, out come the chips in some form. I try to eat good snacks but both of these things are triggers for the other. I have to try to totally avoid them during the week, otherwise I'd be drinking and snacking each night. On the weekends I cut myself some slack and yes, I can drink a whole bottle of wine and still be standing (and sometimes looking for more).
I am an all or nothing black and white girl too. I have sought help from counselors and support groups even though I was terrified and embarassed to seek out the help I needed. I'm two years sober, and not because I did it on my own. Most of my friends now are sober women and men, and they're some of the coolest people imaginable and supportive and have been everywhere I have. You are certainly not alone. This is a food forum but I believe an addictive personality is an addictive personality no matter what form it is. If you feel unsafe in anyway, there is help for you, I can tell you where to look for it.
And haha as far as the food goes, I'm still struggling, but man oh man has everything gotten easier over time. Stick with it, the answers will come to you if you keep doing the next right thing.
