Can anyone give me some ideas for soups that dont require HNSs? I just dont like them and I want something I can make in quantity now that the weather is gloomy out here in the NorthWest. Thanks, the cookbook isnt much help.

I don't know if it helps, but whenever the cookbook calls for the tomato HNS, I use real tomatoes instead. Tastes better, too.
I am getting bored with my same old dinner menu's. Just thought I would share this recipe I found for HOT GARLIC SHRIMP:
1 clove garlic
red pepper flakes to taste
lemon pepper to taste
3 T. Lemon juice
Salt to taste
5 oz. raw shrimp
1 t. paprika
2 t. parsley
Blend garlic, peppers and lemon juice until smooth. Pour over peeled shrimp and toss. Spray baking dish with PAM and bake at 400 for about 10 minutes or until shrimp is cooked. Sprikle with paprika and parsley.
I have not make this yet but I think I would let the shrimp marinade in the garlic for a bit before cooking.
faerychick..the recipe sounds great! i like spicy stuff so will def. try it. just made the Spicy tuna burgers recipe...pretty good and since there is no food in the house but canned stuff, figured i'd give it a try.
here's another recipe that is ok.. kind of tastes like cookie dough. i can never get the puddings to gel so figured i'd try to use the packets in a different way. just don't try to bake them! they pretty much exploded. haha!

Take 2 packets of the Double Chocolate pudding (vanilla creme works great too) and pour into a bowl. Take out one or two spoonfuls of the dry powder and set aside. Mix the pudding with just a little water - enough to make it stick together so that you can shape it with your hands. Roll the dough into bite-sized balls in your hands, then roll into the dry powder you set aside. Yummy!
Sometimes I mix the chocolate pudding for the center, then roll it into a little bit of the vanilla creme dry powder! Very tasty!
If you don’t want to use a slow cooker, instead of following step 2 below, just add the remaining ingredients to the turkey mixture in the large saucepan and bring to a boil. Lower heat to simmer and cook, uncovered, about 30 minutes.
Ingredients:
1 pound extra-lean ground turkey (6%-9% fat)
1 cup chopped sweet onion
1 1/2 cups finely chopped celery
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
1 teaspoon ground cumin
2 (10.75 ounce) cans condensed tomato soup
2 cups low-sodium chicken broth
28-ounce can crushed tomatoes in rich puree
2 tablespoons ground chili powder (add more to taste, if desired)
1/2 to 1 teaspoon ground black pepper (add more as desired)
2 15-ounce cans kidney beans, drained and rinsed (or substitute pinto beans)
Preparation:
1.Add turkey, onions and celery to large nonstick saucepan and cook over medium-high heat. Cook and stir until turkey and onions are nicely browned, using a potato masher at times to bread the meat down into small particles.
2.Spoon the browned turkey mixture into a slow cooker set on HIGH. Stir in the remaining ingredients (red pepper flakes, cumin, condensed tomato soup, chicken broth, crushed tomatoes, chili powder, black pepper and kidney beans).
3.Cook 1-2 hours or until stew is nice and hot. Once hot, you may reduce the slow cooker to LOW and keep the stew warm until ready to serve.
Yield:
8 servings

Per serving (if 8 servings): 237 calories, 17 g protein, 31 g carbohydrate, 6 g fat, 1.8 g saturated fat, 35 mg cholesterol, 9 g fiber, 555 mg sodium. Calories from fat: 22%.
for MRC plan, eliminate the beans for lunch...great for dinner!
Can I just say WOW!!!! I have the cookbook..it was like the first thing I got at my center and I've used one recipe out of my book. This website was AMAZING!!!! I actually got my husband back on board about eating on plan with me. Totally need to get the scale out and start measuring him cause if I've lost weight...he has too.
Cassie, my husband loves this diet...he eats pretty much what i do (but more of it) and when we were looking at some recent vacation photos, i was like wow, you look thinner. he got on my scales and has lost 15 lbs! he's 6'3", very muscular so wasn't overweight but he said he was able to get into some Levis he hasn't been able to wear. when he's on board, makes it so much easier for me.
these forums are the reason i've been successful w/ my weight loss...these recipes are excellent and keep me from being bored. also if you're on facebook, befriend Metabolic Research Center and they have some good recipes too
Turkey Meatloaf Muffins
Calories: 80
Fats: 2 grams
Carbs: 4 grams
Protein: 11 grams
Ingredients:
• 2 lbs ground turkey (or chicken)
• 3 egg whites
• 1 cup quick cooking oats
• 1/2 tsp ground cumin
• 1/2 tsp dried thyme
• 2 tsp dry yellow mustard
• 2 tsp black pepper
• 2 tsp chipotle pepper spice
• 1 tsp salt
• 2 tbsp garlic powder (2 cloves minced)
• 1 small onion (finely chopped)
• 2 celery stalks (finely chopped)
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
2. Spray muffin pan with canola or olive oil.
3. Mix all your ingredients together in one large bowl.
4. Roll the mixture into balls and place in muffin pan. Muffins should be about the size of a racquetball.
5. Bake for 40 minutes.
Makes 12 muffins.
