.5 lbs in nine days isn't "bad", though.

Before I get too far sidetracked... weight loss, and digestion isn't really 100% or linear. Sometimes we're gonna weigh less when the day before we didn't eat well. Sometimes we're gonna weigh more when the day before we ate like a saint. Even over the course of nine days, it's just...such a short period of time.

While it can be good to go day by day with the changes, sometimes we have to briefly think about long-term when it comes to progress. What you do today will matter a month from now. Not just a week from now. What you do tomorrow will matter a year from now. Every day adds up, but it doesn't always add up how we think it should.

Again, weight loss isn't linear, just like maintaining isn't linear. We don't reach our goal weight and every day it reads XXX. Some days it's gonna read XX0, or XX1, or XX2, and then back to XX0. Weight loss is similar in that sometimes we're gonna hover for a few or gain a smidge. And then suddenly we'll start going down again on the scale.

About that whole ".5 is not enough". I see this mentality so much. It pains me. This idea that the effort we put forth far exceeds what we're getting in return from the scale. How do I fix this? In both myself, and others? If only Kaplods would read my mind and post one her brilliantly motivating posts about how if weight loss -were- a race, you're not a turtle, you're not even a hare, you're a cheetah!

We so often only see the downside. We only see how much further we have to go, instead of looking at how far we've come. That .5 pounds would be a blessed sight to a person who has been gaining weight, or plateauing for months, or only wishes they could lose weight, but haven't actually tried. Every .5 lbs that you take off, is .5 lbs that you never have to see again.

You just have to be patient for a few months to realize it. =)
