Just got a Blender!
Ok so on the weekend I brought a blender so I have another quick option for breakfasts.
Last night I made a smoothie with banana, a glass of mixed blueberries and strawberries, a glass of skim milk, a few heaped teaspoons of natural yoghurt and a squeeze of honey.
It was ok - not great, just ok.
How do you make your smoothies??

I like to use frozen strawberries, as they act as ice cubes and thicken the smoothie. I use more yogurt and less milk than you did, about 1/4 to 1/2 cup each. You can also add ice to make it thicker if you don't have berries - I like my smoothies like a milkshake. 1/2 c yogurt, frozen strawberries, sweetener, milk to thin it out and vanilla is just like a milkshake to me. I try not to add too much sweetness - my smoothie shakes are pretty tart - so I taste as I go.

Here's one I have every morning:
1 cup vanilla almondmilk, or water
1 cup frozen cherries
1 frozen banana, chopped up
2 tbsp protein powder
2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa, or raw chocolate
Throw into the blender and blend until smooth. It's delicious!!
You can also add other stuff to boost the nutrition, like hemp seeds or what have you. I got it from a raw vegan web site, can't remember the name, though.

I make smoothies at least three times a week, and they're never, ever as good as the professionally made smoothies. I think it's because they lack the bad stuff that tastes so good.

I make green smoothies at home, and much prefer mine to anything I can purchase in a store. I make a huge blender full, then portion it out and freeze them for the week. Mine get almond milk, frozen fruit, and fresh spinach.

Fruit smoothies benefit tremendously from a tsp of lemon juice.

Lauren I use peaches, peach yogurt, protein powder and skim, vanilla almond or vanilla soy milk and ice. I think it's pretty good but not as filling as I would like.
Toni does the flax seed or wheat germ make it gritty?
bacilli how does the spinach blend, and what else do you put in it?
BodyByButter what does the lemon do for it?
I'm asking so many questions because I have a texture issue, thanks for all of your help on perfecting my smoothie

I just started using my blender here at home, and I think I'm in love!
Yesterday I made:
- 25ml unsweetened coconut milk
- 50ml full fat greek yoghurt
- 1 banana
- 1 pear
- 1 teaspoon regular sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
LOVED it!
And today for my after-workout dinner I have
A banana, a peach, a pear
About 25gr of cereal (with nuts and raisins)
3 teaspoons of sugar
25ml water
40ml greek yoghurt
And it's perfect again. I don't care for half yoghurts or fake sugar. I just eat a bit less but use the real stuff. And it's not THE DEVIL of foods of you just use it in moderation. lol.
What's also great about smoothie's/blending fruits is that I buy fruits that are on sale, and often they aren't the most ripe yet. But for a smoothie it matters none! Same goes with overripe stuff I would guess!
I want to buy proteine powder to add to my shakes for my workouts.

Here's what I put in my disgusting smoothie (I was drinking them alright and then today, it hit me that I can't stomach it....although I wish I could):
1 apple
1 large beet
2 large carrots
1 handful of baby spinach
2 broccoli florets
1 or 2 cups of water
This is very filling but today I could hardly finish it...in fact, I didn't. I need to probably cut down on the veggies and add some frozen bananas.
