Default Umm...here I go with South Beach Diet

Hey!!

Today was my first day of Phase 1. I was being very cautious and I think I might be going a bit overboard with the caution.

BF: 2 eggwhites + 1 whole egg scrambled with veggies
S: handful of peanuts
L: gigantic salad + 2 egg whites
S: LF cheese stick
D: veggies (cauliflower, broccoli, carrots) + grilled chicken
S: more veggies + grilled chicken + 2 handfuls of cashews ( I succumbed)

I might have UNDERdid it on the number of calories I consumed today. ~1200 calories consumed. Not sure what I can do to increase.

Anyways, looking forward to enjoying lots of weight loss on SBD!

While doing the south beach diet you are supposed to be eating until your are full based on the extensive list of allowed foods, not on the calories.

However, if you do want to focus on calories. Add cheese! I noticed you only had one serving of dairy ALL DAY. Add a little to your omelet, your salad and your veggies. :P Also. The dressing has to be sugar free, not flavor free, which means you can add calories to lunch just by upping the # in the dressing. A

Also (just fyi): Carrots are not an approved vegetable and you are supposed to limit nuts to 1 serving (Peanuts, 20 small and Cashews - 15) per day.

Welcome Hopeful

That's a great Day 1 menu, lots of veggies and good snacks. Jenny pointed out the nuts and carrots. Carrots can be added back in for Phase 2, but are out for Phase 1.

You are missing dairy (2 servings per day of milk or yogurt) and beans while not required are a really good addition. Adding these two will ensure that you aren't hungry and will really help with any South Beach flu/sugar withdrawal.

Stop by the Daily Chat and say hi!

I would add in some yogurt and/or milk. If you're lactose intolerant or allergic to milk, maybe some soymilk?

Good luck!

to The Beach, HopefulAgain!

Let me add to the helpful advice, that cheese is not counted as dairy. Cheese is protein in SBD.

Looks like you are off to a great start! The awesome thing about South Beach is that there is flexibility to do what works best for you. Phase 1 is tough but worth it. Keep up the great work!

Thanks for the advice and welcoming everyone!

Today was my second day and it was pretty horrible. I had a rough day at work and was really drained and starving all day.

All your advice was awesome.

Notes to self:
-add more milk/yogurt ( had 1 cup today)
-add more beans to decrease my carb withdrawal (need it desperately)
-pick out the carrots in my many bags of frozen broccoli, cauliflower and carrots. =[
-stop taking endless handfuls of cashews.

HopefulAgain - Please keep us updated with how you feel after taking those suggestions.

Two more considerations:
- Did you drink coffee before starting the beach (or red bull, ect)? I didn't see on your food plan and that could be adding to your withdrawals if you tossed that at the same time as carbolicious foods.
- Water. Water. Water. I notice if I don't get mine I feel crappy. Try to drink at least two liters!

HTH!
