I believe it, and I am not giving up until I do it

I just did a post today in my blog about the lies that we are told (or tell ourselves) that keep us fat. One of them is,

"It's Too Hard"

It is coming from a Christian perspective, but I think it is a beneficial thing to think about even if you aren't religious.

For me, it comes down to now is that I have zero room or allowance in my life to even consider for a brief second that it isn't possible.

Great stuff!

I'm trying to look at it from a point of view of "embracing" the journey and not "dreading" it.

Like many I've done it before, gained, lost, gained lost.

A few years ago I lost 51 pounds. Got hurt, gained a few back, not all, thank goodness, been on hold. I'm ready to get back on track now.

This time, I don't want it to seem like work, I don't want to let a bad day, chase me to the french fries, or beer. I WANT to embrace a healthy lifestyle. I WANT a walk after work to be my way to deal with stress, I WANT to learn Yoga, I WANT to get out of bed feeling as good as I can. My big WANT right now is to go see if our local community center/gym offers a boxing fitness class. I think that would be so much fun to go punch something at the end of a long day and not get arrested. LOL. What a stress reliever that would be!

Funny thing is, I love veggies and chicken and all the good things, I just eat too much of them. The not funny thing, 2 sides of my family have that FAT thing going on. High blood pressure, diabetes, my mother has 4 stints in her heart, from cholesterol, she is pre insulin diabetic, because of obesity, she has bad knees and hips, because of obesity, she had her gall bladder out, because of obesity, she is now hooked on Vicadin, because of a back injury, and sleeps in her recliner, because of obesity. She can't walk her dog, because of obesity.

I DON'T want to be that person, because of obesity. I can control it. Am I gonna slip now and then, yeah, but one slip, is not armegeddon. One brownie, or the 3 times a year Chinese with my son, or the hot dog at a Husker game is not the end of the world, I just have to count it, and account for it!

I just have to say again, the strength you guys have and the encouragement you give is AMAZING. I've been here less than two days and I already feel like I'm not doing this alone anymore. Reading through this thread has gotten me a little teary eyed but more than anything its kicked my motivation up to 15 on a scale of 1-10!

It's definitely possible, I think. It seems to take an awful long time though! I started out last year with just over 100lb to lose. I couldn't even think about it! Now I'm getting closer to having lost 50lb. Only another 50lb to go and I'll be there! I can't really imagine weighing 140lbs. That's what I weighed when I was twelve. People could still (just about) pick me up at that weight. Wouldn't want to challenge anyone to that now. My Mum thinks I weigh about 160lb at the moment - and I've regularly been told I don't look fat by outsiders. So hopefully I carry it well. I keep thinking I'll look ridiculously skinny at 140, but, BMI-wise, I should merely look average.

It does feel so impossible and so far away at first. And it still does, in a way. You just need to remind yourself that those lbs become stones. And over the course of a year or two, those stones will add up. By the end of the journey you will have achieved what you once thought impossible. It can be done. So many people on this site are living proof that the sky is the limit.

Good luck

TC

Sandi,
I would like to nominate this thread for the "RECIPE Thread and other sticky worthy posts" as I think it is certainly worth rereading.

Everyone, if you have not checked out that Thread than I highly recommend it!

Eliana - I love that. So true for me, too.

RR - your passion is wonderful and inspiring.

I also agree that staring at your age is awesome. Don't wait any longer. I'm not going to. =)

Thank you all for so much motivation! I would love to know if Actress stuck with it. I hope I will. Losing 5 pounds 20x sounds almost doable!

I've always hated that trite saying "If I can do it, anyone can!" but in this case it's true! no one in the world is lazier than I am...I mean no one!!

So many people on here intimidate the heck outta me because they know every nutritional value in every molecule of food they eat, they weigh and measure and journal, the whole 9 yards...I feel like a goof doing it my way ha ha but that's one of the life lessons I picked up along the way - ONE way, just like one size, does NOT fit all. What works for you, works for you.

For me, my MIND was the problem. I was a life long self-indulgent spoiled brat, and once I tried some therapy to discover why I was like that, how it affected my life and habits, I could make some real changes. Those things 'stuck' and over time they changed my body.

I may not have done things the 'right way' but they worked, and knock on wood, have continued to work for years now. I changed my mind, and forgot about my body for a while. They say love finds you once you stop looking, well, fat fell off me once I stopped dieting LOL

If you're willing to look inside yourself, admit where you went off track, work hard to refocus yourself and get to your goals, it IS more than possible
