Ennay,
I am in no way making my circumstances appear worse than yours, but I've been Diagnosed with Diabetes and cannot see an Endocrinologist (even with a referral),and my Doctor doesn't seem to concerned with referring me for Diabetes Education,to and RD,CDE or a Physician (that I don't need a referral to see) who specializes in the treatment of Diabetes.By my Insurance guidelines,NIDDM's are to Test once Daily and IDDM's three times Daily.Since my Doctor ordered me to Test twice,my Insurance wants me to send in my readings Monthly for 6 Months.Ain't gonna do er!!!A distant Relative has been Diabetic 17 Years and now has an Insulin Pump. She is an RN,has a great income and superb Insurance, yet can't see an Endocrinologist.Yes,it is primarily Insurance Companies, but it would be a tremendous help if some of our Doctor's would work with us and were more understanding.

My mom likely would be on some sort of diabetes drug if we hadn't made it clear to her doctor that we won't just blindly follow her advice. She knows we will question things and thus won't push too hard on those meds. I recently questioned her about the cholesterol meds and I kid you not she actually started talking about us leaving the practice if we were unhappy. I guess doctor's can't be questioned.

I do think that there is an element of judgment with regard to diabetes. When I saw Carnie Wilson *submaried* I really felt like there was an unsaid judgment... *you must really be out of control* since you had WLS. When as was noted here, her BS wasn't that bad and no information was giving as to fasting. I often feel like my doctors use that diabetes card to *judge* as my mom and myself are very healthy.

Glad I am not the only one. Listen, Im fat and the fact that he makes it seem that ALL fat people have high blood pressure or are diabetic or something is wrong with us is CRAP! I get my blood checked everytime I go to the dr or anytime I go donate blood and it is ALWAYS normal. So that pissed me off. I told my boyfriend that too. I like when he brings guests on his show because I just take tid bits from what they say (sometimes & depends what they say) Like I loved the comment or idea that someone said on there. By a new pair of running shoes and run the sole down. That is so cool because you know ur always on the move. Aside from that - ya I don't like him either.

Nicoyaangel,
Dr. Oz isn't the only Physician who makes those of us with Weight issues appear to have high BP,Diabetes or other Health problems.Told my "dippy" Doctor at Appointment before last that I get tired of my Weight being blamed for any Health problem I have or may develop, when skinny People have Health issues too.

AnnRue,
Saw my Physician Day before Yesterday, and got the "right act" for refusing to take a Statin Drug to lower my Cholesterol and Triglycerides. My Cholesterol/Trigs are a little above normal!!Using a scare tactic to get me to take the Drug,he told me I will develop Cardiovascular Disease and die a premature death.I explained why I refuse, and discussed natural approaches I.E. Diet,Supplements and Exercise less the harmful side effects from a Statin.I asked,"And how many times per Week do you work out?".He answered,"Not enough, but I don't have Cholesterol issues.".I'm like,"Yeah, you don't work out period, and your not immune to developing Cholesterol issues!".He knows I'm one tough Nut to crack, and cannot stand it!My Job is done (until next time)!

Triglyceride levels can easily be lowered by lowering intake of refined Sugar and Simple Carbs. If we are serious about losing Weight,we have to do that anyway.

Cholesterol is nothing more than a farce. However,it can be lowered by Juicing.Juicing dark Green Veggies works so well because they contain a large amount of Chlorophyll.Nothing will lower Cholesterol better than Chlorophyll from Celery,Spinach,Kale, etc.,Juicing will also make the Body more Alkaline, which will rid the Body of Yeast, and Disease.

If you want,do some Research on "The truth about Cholesterol".Cholesterol is necessary for Cell function.A new Cell can't be formed without Cholesterol.

LDL and HDL are made-up words by the Medical System in order to scare People into thinking they're Cholesterol is too high, and therefore needs to be lowered, which means Drugs and Drug Sales.

They call HDL good Cholesterol, because it takes the Cholesterol away from the Arteries. What they don't tell us is that the LDL,or so-called bad Cholesterol is SENT to the Arteries to REPAIR CRACKS and is used to replace damaged Cells. They also don't tell us that the HDL takes the unused Cholesterol back to the Liver,so it can be recycled. The Cholesterol Molecule is very complex, and thus it is much easier for the Body to recycle it than to re-manufacture it.

Why do we listen to quacks who are out there for your money. Anything Oprah has to do with is off base to me. I would rather trust anyone here who is living with diabetes as I am. I learn a lot from others.

Dr. Oz always annoyed the crap out of me, though I can't pinpoint why...

There are ways to take medications without your insurance company being aware of them.

Ask your pharmacist NOT to run a prescription through your insurance. If the medications aren't submitted to your insurance company, it's unlikely that they will know you're on a drug unless you tell them (there may be other ways that they can get the information, but we were told in our cases it would be extremely unlikely. It's something to ask both your doctor and pharmacist about). The down side of buying prescriptions without going through your insurance is that you'll have to pay full price, but Metformin is one of Walmart/Sam's Club's $4 medications ($10 for a 3 month supply), so it's affordable to buy "on the sly."

Be wary of the free medical advice and services offered by your insurance company directly. These are toll-free numbers in which you can talk to a nurse or nurse practitioner to "manage" your health issues, allowing you to discuss your health issues and medication. The service is "free," but you are also giving the insurance companies all the information that they couldn't otherwise get. I don't know that this information can be used against you, but I also don't know that it can't.
