Default 300 + And Ready To Try Again...#752

WELCOME !!!

We are a group of individuals who weigh or have weighed 300+, or near there. This group was formed to provide a place for others like us to find support and hope. We are aware of the distinct problems that come with weighing over 300 lbs.

We want to invite everyone to join us in our journey.
We share laughter and tears.
We share what works for us and what doesn't.
We often use a "Topic of the Day" for discussion.

Motivational Monday
Tuesday Tips
Wednesday Wish List .. and What you are doing to obtain it.
Thankful Thursday
FUN Friday ... don't wait until you lose your weight.
Sit-up Saturdays - any physical activity
Share your Success Sunday

These are not required topics ...just ideas to share. We often find them very helpful. We also share heartaches and fears ... joys and celebrations.

We have several extra threads going on simutaneously such as Monthly Challenges, Weekly Weigh-ins, Recipes, Bios, and more. Please feel free to check them all out.

We have found this thread to be more than just a support group...
we have found it to become a home. We invite you to join us.

WELCOME!

I know you'll all agree that we are really thankful for the free services here at 3FC. The sisters offer all of this support and information with no charges to us. There are a couple of ways though that we can help out.

If you are thinking about buying anything at Amazon, why not help out 3FC at the same time? You can do this by clicking on the button for Amazon on any page in the forum, or by clicking on the button on the main 3FC page at www.3fatchicks.com . A portion of your purchase price will be given to 3FC by Amazon. It doesn't increase your price at all, but it does help out 3FC. You can use any of the Amazon.com links that you see on the site in order to help contribute to the site.

Also, BTW, in case you didn't know it, you can view the message boards "ad free" for a minimal charge. I think it's like $15 for 6 months. A very small investment to be rid of the annoying ads and make your pages load quicker.

Boo Hoo, I am going downhill.... Okay first I have kept up the swimming, but I think I am worried about taking the Glucose Tolerence Test on Wednesday morning that I have been comfort eating a little over the past 24 hours... which is bad, so bad it kept me awake last night!

I know just want to get Wednesday over so I can get back onto track! I am not weighing myself, I dare now cause that will make me DEPRESSED... but I am guessing a few pounds are back on since about Saturday....

Oh well I fell off the wagon, I will jump back on!

Alison, one thing that is helping me to not see the huge amount of weight I have to lose as such a trial, is looking at is as a lifestyle change. I am not going to go the rest of my life without a couple of bad days, whether it be for an occasion, or just giving in to the comfort eating. You had a couple of bad days, but now you are back on track. Try not to stress about a weight gain, you will soon lose that again. Good luck for Wednesday,

Hugs,

Ammi

Here's my two cents on this lifestyle change. I started in November 2001. That's almost 4 years ago. I've had an 18 month hiatus, and several plateaus, one that lasted 5 months. I have never been at my ideal weight, ever. I was on Atkins in the 70's and got down to 175 before declaring victory and starting right back on my old eating ways. I got down to about 250 once in college in the 80's, and got down to 214 on Nutrisystem in the early 90's. When I used to get close to my goal, I'd get excited, think I was successful, and "done." I lost the most on Nutrisystem, 161 lbs., but didn't "get it." I had to have a major health scare to finally "get it." The "eat less, exercise more" diet is the simplest diet there is, but the hardest. It isn't fast. It doesn't have a destination. It is a life long journey. I know that it will take me another several years to lose this weight the right way. I care enough about myself and the people who love me, to learn how to tell myself no. My inner child may stomp her foot now and then, but a good parent always knows how to set limits, and when to say no.

Hi ladies…

I’m back from Vegas… I am going back and replying to all the posts that I can get to. I didn’t have internet connection in the room only in the downstairs atrium. I didn’t wanna go air my laundry out in the middle of a casino LOL.

I am sending all my prayers and warm wishes to all the folks who are in the path of Katrina!

Vegas was great. It was long needed vacation! A great get away from my parents too :-P

Howver, I won’t mention all the crap I ate while in vegas. Buffet this, Team dinner, and not to mention all the cocktail waitresses bring drinks to ya. I don’t plan on weighing in this week. I will wait for next Sunday. I probably gained like 200lbs!!! I am going to work a little extra this week, see if I can burn off at least a little of what I am sure I gained from Vegas hehehe.

I won a lot of money tho. I came in second in the women’s division based on my score. They I won a few other competitions as well. I placed anywhere between 1st and 12th in the womens singles, womens doubles, mixed doubles and team competition. All in all I got about 300 bucks from bowling. Then I hit a royal flush on Pai Gow, but I only bet $1 and so the pay was $150. Can you imagine if I had bid the higher amount???? *faints* It was my first time playing Pai Gow only because I had made some money on bowling so I decided I would try a few hands. I only put in $40 bucks, sat for an hour, and came out with $220 heehe. I also won about hmmm… 2-300 on the penny slots and a a few more on the nickel slots. I don’t gamble to much. I usually only play the penny slots because you can usually put in $10 or $20 and sit all day. James and I went into Vegas with $400 bucks that we saved up over the season and came out with about $250 left. That’s after all the food, all the gifts, and all the shows we went to.

It was a good getaway. I had the company of good friends, good food and my bowling ball Oh and about bowling, the reason I placed so well was because I bowled a really SUPER game! I bowled a 200, 204 and 179 I also had a handicap of about 56 pins. So add all that up and add on 56 x 3 to my score and it gave me a good enough score to place!

I’m going to Laughlin Sept 16th. This one is just for us tho, no league competitions, just us and two friends. We’re going down for Party Gras. This is something we had planned for a few months. Just something for us to get away from the normal life here at home. We usually go to Pismo beach but this year I took summer school and the kid was switched to a different track (year round school) so it made things hard for us to plan anything. Here’s my schedule for the new few weeks.

We’re having an after league team party this Friday (2nd) so another BBQ ICK!
This Saturday (3rd) we are going to the Angels game. Taking Brit for her Birthday (4th) She’s gonna be 13!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Next Saturday(10th) I have my 3rd and Final exam (if I can pass the history section) Then I have a friends bday to go to later that night.
Then the following Friday (16th) we are going to Laughlin for the weekend.

Then I start school

I start work tomorrow. YAY nothing like going to Vegas, staying up all night and then trying to get back into a regular work schedule

Alrighty Folks, I’m outta here!

Sue…

30 lbs is HUGE!!!!! Think of 30 blocks of butter off your butt!!!!! Think of 3- 10 lb bags of potatos!!!!!!! HUGE girl, give yourself a high 5!!!!!
I know for me, that if I was to have a fruit instead of a protein, it makes me hungry. Another good suggestion would have been to have the fruit with the cheese!!!
But I like jerkey myself too! Should try to make it sometime, then I can control the salt, etc!!
Glad to see sooo many people here now, I am freshly inspired, and feeling super!!!! Keep it up everyone, and be kind to your selves!!!

Since there are so many new people, I thought it was time to dust this clipping off again. These are the 7 habits of highly successful weight loss maintainers. It is from the National Weight Control Registry at the Center for Human Nutrition at the University of Colorado. To make the Registry, you must have lost at least 30 pounds and maintained it for at least a year, but most on the list have lost at least twice that much, and maintained for at least 3 years.

1. Expect failures (I like to say slips), but keep trying. (You only fail if you give up)

2. Don't deny yourself.

3. Weigh yourself often. (This is in the range of once a week to once a month, not daily. One thing many obese people have in common is not knowing how much they weigh, and it may be years inbetween stepping on the scales)

4. Serious planned exercise. (A routine and a schedule leads to discipline, something I've always lacked.)

5. Add little bits of physical activity into your daily routine. (Yep, that's the stairs, and parking farther away stuff.)

6. Most have used a low fat/high carbo diet. (Any diet will work if you stick to it, but low fat seems to adjust your palate to healthier eating quicker.)

7. Eat five smaller meals a day. (Don't give your body a chance to be hungry and you are less likely to binge.)

They have also found that weight maintence gets easier with time. Once the weight has been off for 3 years, the odds are that you will never regain it. Most of the successful losers had been yo-yo dieters for years and finally ended up on the winning track. Half of all participants lost weight without help from anyone. If you can't afford WW or similar, it is okay. You can still be successful. 66% of those on the registry rebounded from being chubby in childhood, so you can fight your genes and your nutritional upbringing.

You have picture what fat really looks like. It is alive with blood vessels. That is one of the reasons obesity can lead to high blood pressure. If you lose weight fast, the blood vessels remain, and you can easily regain, because the new fat doesn't have to grow new blood vessels. It can be quickly fed. If you lose slow, the vessels have time to retract, just like when you cut a dog's nails that have gotten too long. If you cut all at once, they will bleed. If you cut some, the blood vessel will retract, and in several days, you can cut the rest. Slow and steady gives you body a chance to heal itself.

Hi guys it's me again. Mamagumba. Well this has been a trying week for me. The husband (that I left 2 years ago in July) keeps on threatening me about taking the 3 year old from me. I think that he is full of it but it still makes me nervous. Yesterday I did falter some but today I will be back on track. I lost you guys for a while so I had to find you. Being new here and all. Well ladies lets make this a very good week for all of us. I think that I have lost some of those nasty pounds but I don;t have anywhere to go and weigh so that I can find out. Take care and I will be thinking about all of you

AAAAAAAAGGGGGHHHHHHH I was just writing replies to you wonderful ladies, and I pressed a wrong button somewhere and lost it all. What a pain Oh well here I go again, lol.

Hi All,

It's really lovely to see so many posts, it really helps to have you all for support, inspiration, and to travel this long road with. Thank you

Catherine - You are doing amazingly well with this lifestyle change, and I am sure it makes all the difference to be doing it slowly but knowing this time you are changing your habits and know you will keep the weight off. I think one of the reasons my diets fail is because I want the weight gone NOW, and then I think I can carry on with my life like before. But I can't. The old habits have to be beaten, and new better ones put in their place. Only then will I lose the weight and Keep it off, just like you are. You are a real inspiration. Thanks too for the dieting info, I am going to print it out so I can look at it whenever I need to.

Just Peachy - I read your bio earlier, great to have you join us here. Listen to me acting like I have been here forever lol. I have only been here a week or so myself, but I love it so much. I have been on other support group sites, but this one really seems different and I really love it. Good on you for making the decision to take the stairs this week instead of the elevator. A small step that will make a big difference in your fitness and weight loss too I bet. This is probably one of many little steps you make towards your lifestyle change, so that one day you will always opt for the stairs.

Sue Marie - I am so envious that you got to go to Vegas. I am from the UK but my hubby and I got married there in 2002 and we LOVED it. It's our aim to get back there for our fifth anniversary, and this time I want to be slim enough to enjoy a theme wedding lol. Anyway, I am so glad you had a wonderful time, did so well in the bowling, AND won money. It really was a great time for you. Not many people leave Vegas with more money than they started with I bet. Hubby and I played the slots a little, but didn't do any of the big gambling. It was fun. Maybe next time we go we might brave a game of Black Jack

Mamagumba - I am so sorry your ex is being a complete pig and threatening you with taking your 3 year old away from you. I hate it when people use their kids like that just to hurt the other person in a split. I hope you are right and that he is just talking rubbish. In the mean time, easier said than done I know, but do try not to go for comfort eating. If you do, eat a lot of a low fat thing perhaps instead of a little or a lot of a high fat thing. As for thinking you have lost some lbs but can't weigh, that could be a good thing. I have scales but I refuse to weigh weekly because they bring me down so much if I don't see what I want to see on the read out. You will tell from the fit of your clothes and how you feel that you are losing weight, to me, that matters more than what scales say.

I am so happy to have met you lovely ladies, and I look forward to sharing our weight loss highs and lows together,

Hugs,

Ammi
