I have known for years that I should be taking Calcium supplements (accident during teen years, x-ray revealed very unhealthy bones for a young person). And my body has been showing signs of needing better nutrition for about a year and half now, hair loss (not extreme, mostly when super stressed), very thin brittle nails, fatigue and fogginess. So, I have purchased all the vitamins, even before I got serious about losing weight. I have a prenatal (not planning on children now, but so many women recommend this for hair, skin and nails), Calcium with D and Boron as instructed by the doc, Fish oils, and Biotin for some extra energy and metabolism help. Oh, and I bought benefiber...been a bit slow.
What I want to know is if taking them will affect my weight loss positively or negatively. I plan on taking them even if they slow me down a bit because my overall health is what is most important. But some advice or knowledge from you lovely ladies would be nice.
P.S. I know my fish oil pills will account for 30 calories a day. Benefiber has cals as well

Reason: ooppps. posted in the wrong forum!!!
Include them in your calorie count for the day--but wait--what IS your calorie count for the day? It must either be really low--or it's fine but you aren't eating as healthily as you could be--or you ARE eating super healthy but your body isn't being properly nourished by it--in which case--have you thought to see a doctor?
I do 1200-1500 calories a day. I eat a South Beach style diet and have just decided that it works best counting my calories as well as removing processed foods. Everything I eat is a whole food. No 100 cal pack of chips or even using my calories for pizza (not yet anyway, too addicted to the scale moving to have another off day).
Your fat needs a fuse to start the fire. That's why you need calories. I've used lots and lots of calorie needs calculators in the past and found this one to be most accurate and helpful.
At little to no exercise at all, you need 2000cals per day just to survive. If you don't eat enough, your body will figure times are tight and hold on to all of your fat. If you don't loose 1-2lbs per week on 2000 cals per day, you can always drop by 100/day each week to see what works best.
mortonpixie- Thank your for the link, website is super helpful and I love the features. The calcualtion was just about what my scale tells me I should eat. I have been unclear about eating sooo many calories, 2000 is a lot. I know I ate more before I started (obviously), but I'm not comfortable there. Perhaps I should try 1700.
I just recently read about the positives of taking calcium & how it can affect your weight loss. Just google "calcium & weight loss" to see. It's rather interesting.
But at the very least, taking all those vitamins will fill your belly up so you don't feel hungry. lol
I agree - 2000 sounds like a lot! I find 1700 to be comfortable and keep me from being grumpy...at this point I do 1700 on my running days and 1400 on my rest days.
I think 'ya got it all figured out! Keep on keepin' on...it's a long road, but oh so worth it!!
I've found that taking vitamins just makes me feel better. Less fatigue, and when I started taking omega-3's (I take flaxseed oil because I'm a veggie) my hair started growing like crazy! After several years of this my hair is virtually indestructible and super shiny, and I've seen huge improvements in my skin as well.
