Arrow Whole wheat

Hi I just started back at trying to lose weight and I am trying to do a low carb plan...with struggles.
I have switched to whole wheat bread and pasta and have cut out sugar, potatoes, and most fruit but I dont know if I am doing this right.
Does whole wheat still count as your carb intake for the day ,20 or under,or is that for the bad carbs like potatoes and sugar?
I really want to do this right but im not sure if I am eating too much carbs in the whole wheat to hinder weight loss..Can anyone help?

Well...seriously speaking, there is low carb and there is low carb.
I'll be on Atkins 5 years in a couple months. For me, it works. That being said, successful & permanant weightloss requires changing your eating habits for the rest of your life.
Your original question was regarding whole wheat bread & pasta...on Atkins, these items really would not be added until you are in the pre-maintenance phase.
When you are counting carbs...everything counts towards your daily carb count.
If you think Atkins is something you might be interested in, my suggestion would be to read Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution (2002 & prior editions) and decide if this is something you can do for the rest of your life

In low carb terms, this is known as ketosis...the body burns the fat you are eating for energy which is why low carb eating plans tend to be high fat & adequate protein.
BTW, South Beach is not a low carb eating plan.

I know nothing about Atkins, but if you're supposed to stay under 20g carbs/day then 2 slices of whole wheat bread is your total carbs for the day.

Perhaps try ditching all grains (corn, oats, wheat, rye, etc) plus potatoes and legumes like we do on Paleo? Then every carb in your mouth (almost) would be from fruit / veg, and veg is goooooood. Nom!

This is assuming you've ditched sugars and nasty processed foods, of course.

Best of luck with whatever you choose!

(whoops, edited to add fruits! but would recommend ditching them as well except for berries)

Default Whole wheat

Whole wheat bread still has carbs, but is a much better option than white bread if you are doing a low carb diet. If you are doing a no carb diet, it should be avoided.
