Another thing to try might be to alternate the hummus on a cracker with the hummus on a lettuce leaf or other crunchy veg. Sort of like "vegetable eating in training". I also agree that you can go down on the oil and oily seeds and use some broth to smooth it out. A few drops (literally drops) of toasted sesame oil can give you a similar taste. If you like the texture, for a lot less calories and a similar feel I put non-fat cottage cheese in the food processor with just a hint of olive oil, fresh or dried herbs, a little cheapo parmesan till smooth. Less sit a bit to blend flavors.
