I love the support that this community gives one another. I'm not diabetic but I work with a diabetes resource: Diabetes Act Now so I try to keep up to date with news. I know with the support and motivation y'all offer each other you'll reach your goals! Especially since you're so aware of your bodies and what you need/ don't need.

My Uncle is diabetic and walks everyday. And I'm not talking a mile or two, he huffs it in the city park for 5-10 miles. It really helps him, and he has had a lot of trouble with his diabetes, so I'm glad he's being proactive. The site DiabetesActNow.org has a few other tips to stay active without "over-doing" it. Check it out if you're interested... best of luck to all of you! I look forward to checking in and seeing your results!

Don'tknow if this thread is still alive, but I am a type 1 and have been so for over 30 years - diagnosed really young. Although I had an infection as a 6month old baby it also seems to run on My Dad's side of the family with about 5 cousins having been diagnosed as children. I was always really skinny until I changed insulins at 26 and started to get extreme lows - a few comas etc and started overeat in an almost fear like fashion - scared of lows. It is very different to type 2 as it is even possible for a type 1 to develope type 2 on top of type 1 - insulin resistance. One of my cousins has and her specialist told her this and she now takes insulin and pills. I also wouldn't ever want to argue with type 2's the only reason I point out the difference all the timeis because I often get told if you lost a few pounds perhaps your diabetes will go away grrrrrrrrr. Most people doonly understand about type 2.

Thought I would keep this thread alive. I am a type 1 diabetic as well. I'm 20 and I've been diabetic for 4 years now. I also hate how people assume I have type 2 diabetes because I am overweight and how my diabetes is my fault. Rrriggghhttt.... My A1C is on its way down thank goodness! My cholesterol is high though and my weight so... I'm dieting again. Hopefully I stick with it this time! I'm currently on an omni pod pump and I use a Dexcom cgm. I am more than willing to share any info I have on either. They are BY FAR my 2 favorite pieces of technology.

Thanks, Tink. I know we have many Type I Diabetics in 3FC and wonder where they post. Perhaps they'll pop in here.
Congratulations on good management of your condition.

Tink- I am on Omnipod also and absolutely love it. I have been on it for almost 5 years and could never go back to a pump with tubes. Was on a Minimed for around 5 years and while it worked well it cannot compare to the Omnipod.

I went on CGM about 6 months ago and it is the best thing ever! I chose the Navigator and have been very happy with it. I used the first generation of the Dex a while ago but it still had a lot of bugs and I gave up on it pretty quickly. I have heard that the newer generations are so much better.

I have had type 1 since March of 99. My AIC's have never gone above high 7's but now that my husband and I have decided to try starting a family in the next year or so I need to get my AIC's down. The doctors want like a 6.5. I am also trying to lose weight. I went from almost no lows a week to 2-3 a day right now. It is getting better but with the drastic change in eating habits I need to tweak my basal rates.

Also, is anyone using Symlin? I had asked in another thread but did not get many responses. I have been using it on and off for a few years now. Trying to be really good now and use it all the time but it still makes me sick sometimes (especially in the morning). I have had luck with it when I stick to it. My BS has not gone above 210 since using it this time around and my daily insulin rates have gone from around 130 units to about 90. Not to mention how much it helps with weight loss (last time dropped 25lbs without changing anything else).

Anyway, glad to now there are other Type 1's who are not skinny-minnie.
