Default Do we really gain weight during TOM?!

So, I don't know if this is TMI...but being overweight I hadn't had a period in 10 months, when I dropped the first 20 I started again. UGH, not something I love but then again, I feel like a woman again. Needless to say...the past week my scale didn't really move that far and I pushed myself hard!

Can this really be because it is my TOM?! I mean is that even possible? I don't want to make excuses so I'm just wondering...

Any help is appreciated =)

It's very possible. Some women actually "gain" 8 - 10 pounds during TOM. I say "gain" because it's usually really nothing more than temporary water retention that will come right off shortly afterwards.

Personally I'm very irregular and having been overweight has caused me to be even more irregular and I'd never monitored my weight during TOM. This time around I did and I was shocked at how much my weight bounced around. I swear, over the last week, I've gained and lost the same 1.5lbs about 6 times. It's enough to make a person batty. But, I was staying on plan and with the support and advice of the nice folks here I realized it was most likely just water weight from TOM.

Since I've been serious about weight loss, I've been on the pill. And on the week of the sugar pills, I never lose weight, regardless of what I do!

I think being on your period doesn't slow down the weight loss but the scale won't show much because of water retention, which is something I'm terribly prone to!

I know I do. Its usually at least 7lbs. At least. I've seen it at 12! I wanted to die, lol. But it all came off, and took a few friends with it!

I gain between 4- 6, which I though was a tonn! that sucks super hard core Katelee!!
Mine stays still for a few days gains for 2-3 days then goes down again. If I didn't fall prey to my sugar cravings I will have lost weight.

Thank you SO much ladies! Ugh 12 lbs?! I would have a heart attack!

Does it last the entire length of the TOM? Or does it stop after a few days in?

You ladies rock =)

I'm praying that's why my weight is up .4 oz and not down even lower than before the time of the month because I've been working my butt off!

My "last" day was Sunday and I weight this morning (tuesday) up .4 oz from weighing before TOM arrived...I will be SO upset if I'm not back down even lower than the .4oz in a few days. UGH!

It takes a few days for me to see the numbers on the scale go down again...

I always lose more weight during tom than during any other time but I seem like an anomaly.

I always "gain" about 4-6 pounds when it's TOM, but that usually only lasts four days or so, so if it comes before my weigh in day (Friday), all the extra water weight is gone by the time I weigh in. If it falls on my weigh in day, I'll either just skip it or not really pay any mind to the number haha.

the scale usually just refuses to move during my TOM, although i've seen it go up 1-2lbs... i always wonder if it really is just my period or it's me being bad... cuz TOM is usually the worst diet time for me! im really hormonal and always crave crap!

Ugh, I too weighed myself this morning (which I KNOW I shouldn't do on my off weigh in days) and it is the rhird day of my lady friend, BOO!!! and I am UP almost an entire pound! I am SO FREAKING UPSET! I haven't missed one day of working out nor have I gone off course of eating...I'm just hoping when this awful thing goes away I will be down again.

Sometimes being a woman is the pits =)

Well if it helps any, between the last day of TOM (Monday) & yesterday (Tuesday) morning, I lost 1.6 pounds. Then again, I started this journey last week, so that's my only experience with TOM/weight loss/gain. However if majority of you notice the scale is not your friend at that time, I should likely skip weighing myself on those days...

I wouldn't worry too much about the 1lb gain though, especially if it's TOM
