So I think my biggest problem is late night snacking. I tend to get really hungry at like 11 pmish and then I eat and then I am able to sleep sound. But I struggle and toss and turn in the meantime. Any suggestions?
I usually have late night snack cravings as well. What I usually do is go to bed earlier before the cravings hit, or have a really light snack, like carrots.
If I know I will be staying up late, I plan my meals differently. I'll have 5-6 small meals spaced out by 2.5-3 hours. Making sure to include one in the evening after dinner.
I also try to make sure I'm in bed before I feel hungry or have the munchies in the evening. I do try to have a snack between 7-8 that leaves me satisfied.
dont keep any snacks in your house that could lead to snacking unhealthy.
I know how it sounds, but i have no willpower what so ever when if comes to eating junk whatever the time may be.
so i don't by an junk food and the i wont eat bad,
I tend to snack late at night as well, but I try to make sure it's something small and healthy, like an apple or cheese stick. You could also try eating a pudding cup or something like that!
Just be sure you aren't mistaking your hunger for thirst. There are sometimes when I think I'm hungry but I just drink a glass of water instead and the problem is solved!
I'm a late-night snacker too. I can't sleep if I feel the slightest bit hungry. So I just save enough calories so I'm able to snack before bed. I keep it healthy--usually some 94% fat-free popcorn, but sometimes a string cheese or a hard-boiled egg. Recently I've been drinking a cup of herbal tea before bed and I've found that it helps suppress my appetite (I drink raspberry zinger). And it's caffeine free so it won't keep you up--might wanna try it out!
I know it sounds odd, but to kick my late night snacking, I started taking bubble baths- I usually sit and read a book or magazine - my hands are to busy trying to keep the pages from getting wet, than snacking on anything! haha .
Ugh...I used to (and occasionally still) be so bad with this. I'm certain that this is what got me up to 226. That and the fact that from 5 o'clock onward, I would just stuff my face and just keep going. I would also eat very heavy before I sleep easily taking in 1000+ calories right before sleep time. Not good. It got to the point where I couldn't sleep without my "little" snack. When I got to college I unintentionally combatted this problem by just going to bed at a sensible hour. This makes me sleep and when sleeping I don't eat. Also, I have begun listening to my body more in general. Boy, I wish I had thought about this stuff earlier....life would have been easier. But such is life. )
I definitely get hungry at 11-11:30pm. I'm a night owl so I'm usually up then. So, I just save some calories for a snack so I'm not feeling completely tortured and tempted. It's been working...no hungries!
I also save calories for a snack. As a late-night person, I'm up until 2 or 3am regularly, but still find the snack craving is hardest at 11 to midnight. So I save some calories for a yogurt. I do the 100 cal yoplait light desserts flavors so I can have key lime pie or strawberry cheesecake when I feel like sweets. If I feel like salty, a babybel cheese wedge (35-45 cal depending on flavor) with six low fat triscuit type crackers is only 175 cal. If I remember to buy them, apples are also excellent when paired with low-fat cheese, ad that catches the sweet, salty and crunchy cravings.
Good luck! and remember, snacking in moderation isn't bad. If we can change how we snack, like we change how we eat meals we don't have to feel deprived or feel bad for snacking.
