Default Miserably ill...

Oh, how I hate this. I have got a KILLER cold right now. Can't breathe through my nose at all, constantly coughing yet not enough to get the phlegm out (I know, gross, but it's really bugging me cause I can feel it in there and want it OUT), sinus pressure, ears need to pop but can't, etc.

I have a question. Do you guys exercise when you're sick? If so, how much? Do you force yourself to stick with your normal routine no matter what? Do you ease up but keep working out? Do you just take time off to let your body focus on getting better? I am kinda unsure what to do.

Although I'm also probably using that as an excuse not to start working out again.

And then the other thing that's bugging me. I regained about 7 lbs over the holidays (no, I haven't updated my ticker, and I really don't want to), and I'm feeling REALLY miserable about it. I can usually pick myself up from little slips, like having donuts for breakfast or ice cream after dinner or whatnot...but this has just crushed my motivation absolutely flat.

How do you guys get back up after something like that?

Ugh I just got over what your going through right now. I just did what I could and that was it. The main thing is getting yourself healthy again. Then you can get back on your regular routine again. That is just my personal opinon, I'm sure others will have much better advice!

I hope you feel better!

I do not exercise if I am sick. If I am having trouble with my airflow-particularly chest or ears, that is my sign that I need to be resting. This week I felt a serious cold coming on, tried to workout but realized how sick I was getting. I went home, drank my weight in tea and chicken noodle soup and got about 15 hours of sleep and woke up the next day pretty much all better. Trust me, working out will do you no good and only run you further into the ground! I think people get as sick as they do because it is compounded by sheer exhaustion.

As for motivation, not being able to work out seems to only make me more anxious. It only makes me more inclined to do whatever it takes to make myself well so I can back on track. Rest up, and I hope you get to feeling better soon! I know you are already feeling behind from the holidays, but just think at how much better your workouts will be when you are well.

Thanks, you guys. I think I'm going to hold off another few days, seeing as this cold is really blocking my ability to breathe well. Hopefully it should only be with me another couple days.

when i'm sick, i usually skip the exercise and try and eat really healthy. I agree with jen, the exaustion only makes it worse. Hope you feel better soon!

I base it on my neck. Symptoms above or at the neck, like sore throat, runny nose, earache, and headache, and I still exercise. Symptoms below the neck, like a cough or a fever, and I don't.

Get lots of fluids so you get back on your feet soon!

Aw, feel better sweetie!

As for exercise, **** no do I exercise when I am sick. It really isn't the most productive time to do so and also your body needs to spend it's energy on recuperating and pushing your body to exercise when it isn't up to it could actually prolong the cold.

Nikaia I hope you're feeling better, I usually don't exercise for the first couple of days but then I just get on the treadmill for a walk like 30 minutes, keep the tissue box right next to you
