I am well aware there are conservatively religious people who read Harry Potter, but I'm talking about the many that actually don't. Believe me, I was in a town where protestors stood right in front of the movie theater when it was released. As I stood in line for my ticket this man sits downin front of me with a bible denoucing interest in scorcery, even though we all know HP is fiction.

Mandalinn, I do agree with you- I wish she spoke about this BEFORE and not after, as it probably wouldn;t have affected much. I guess even if she knew it, there's a slight possibility that the publishers wanted her to conceal it for the best of business....

I read an interesting editorial about how, after the last book was written, she didn't really have control over the characters anymore. She no longer was actively forming them in the books, so the fans now are in charge of filling in the character blanks, and therefore she had no right to go changing Dumbledore. It was an interesting perspective.

I just don't get it.

After the success of the first few books, she could have had a triwizard naked jello wrestling match and wet robe contests at the Leaky Cauldron and her publishers would have printed it.

She had many chances to bring gay characters into the books. She didn't use any of them.

Well, she said that there is lots more back story to the books that never made it. She's going to release a HP encyclopedia or something that details it all.

I also thought that she kept that information out because of editors not wanting a gay character as popular as he was in a "childrens'" book.

I haven't seem much negative reaction around my area.. mostly.." he is?...huh, wow." and that's it. I don't see how people can get so bent out of shape even after they read the whole story.

[QUOTE=mandalinn82;1909205]I think that the truly "brave" or "openminded" thing to do would have been to actually WRITE IT IN THE BOOKS. If she knew he was gay all along, and she thinks that is just peachy, why on earth would it never come up? QUOTE]

i don't think it's necessary to spell it out for everyone, it may be a post-published admission just to clarify. When exactly would it come up? he was a secretive person who had a lot to hide, and for many reasons. ^-^ I'm all warm and fuzzy when I think of the series, it was perfect for me.

Redalice - it would have come up in the whole disclosure of his story with Grindelwald. IMO, she LEFT OUT a crucial bit of the plot by calling them "good friends" - completely changes Dumbledore's motivations if he had romantic feelings.
