Well, for the less pain, fatter would be better when getting a tat. But, we all know skin changes as you lose/gain weight. So unless you're getting it on an area that won't change much - back of the neck or something - wait until you're at goal weight AND wait until the skin's sorted itself out into where it's going to be for good. Just like how everyone says to not get tats on the belly/hips area if you're planning on getting preggers, cause the skin will get totally stretched out of shape and may never quite be how it was again, which leaves you with a warped-out tat.

I'm sorry, if I'm hijacking the thread with all the tat stuff...it's just something I'm really into.

You know, ive done that.. been mistaken for pregnant.. and ive flat out said. Nope.. im just Fat. and to see the look on there face...!!! HAHAHAHA it was quite an empowering moment. i wish shy, you could have had that too. my best advice though... is something my mother said to me. " NOONE can step on you if your not laying down!" how true that is. and sweetheart, reclaim that energy.. pick up and move on. DONT let someone dictate your life because they are insensative jerks. . dont let them have that hold on you... break free!! it hurts.. belive me. i've been there... 150 is HALF of me.. you are HALF MY SIZE!! i wish i was as fat as you *hugs* so pick up luv... and dont let anyone step on you.

-with love

This might sound odd, but for me, being told I look pregnant would be good thing. For so long, I've been so big that there was no question that I was simply fat. It was (is) in my face, legs, arms, feet, fingers, and of course, belly. Being told I look pregnant would mean that most of the body fat were gone, and I look pretty normal except for the belly.

I'm not trying say that you had no cause to be hurt and insulted, just that it might not be as bad of a remark as it might seem. Maybe people will be asking me when I'm due when I'm in the 150's. I won't like it, of course, but I don't think I'll waste too much energy crying about it either. Who cares what overly insensitive people think about things much anyways?

Me too! I was working as a cashier in a quickie-mart when I was 19, and a customer asked when I was due. After I let that question wash over me (yikes), I quickly let them know, with a big smile, that "Oh no, I'm just fat!"

They looked really embarassed and apologized a lot; to the point where I almost felt bad for them, ha! But really, maybe that prevented them for doing that to another fat girl in the future... I hope!

It sure stuck in my mind as something to NEVER ask a woman, unless I knew for sure she was. Eeeeek! These days, there is no question I'm "just fat" and plenty of it, it's graduated to more than just tummy roundness... ah, I'm so proud!

Sorry that happened, but as others have said, hold your head high, and just know that the unknowing crassness of others does not make YOU a lesser person. Keep on rockin'... and your tattoo sounds beautiful!

This thread has triggered a Boppy ad at the top for me today! I never assume pregnancy for anyone and I see lots of pregnant bellies.

I also see lots of pregnant tattooed bellies, and the ones more in the middle survive better than the tattoos on the sides, FWIW.

I also hope that the OP does not continue fasting often. My suggestion would be to lose the weight through calorie reduction and exercise, making lifestyle changes you can live with.

Good luck!

Oh honey, I so feel your pain. I remember several weeks AFTER I'd given birth to my son, I went into a convenient store where someone I know works. I walked up to the counter and put my stuff down and she looks at me and blurts out, "You haven't had that baby yet?!"

I wanted to die.

But you know, I wouldn't let it bother you too much, sweetie. If you feel good about yourself, then go ahead and do it and don't worry about the labels people sometimes put on us.

Shyshy, I am always amazed at, nevermind how insensitive people could me, but just how unfreakin' belivably STUPID they can be. Gosh, what kind of moron? Don't people know that you are never, ever, ever supposed to ASSUME someone is pregnant unless they either tell you or you see a baby popping out of their vagina.

That aside, from looking at your picture and seeing your weight - you are SOOOO NOT fat. Please don't let it bother you. You SHOULD feel really well about yourself, you're put together, beautiful, sexy and WAAAAY smarter then those idiots.

Thanks it does but then doesn't. It is the hardest wieght to lose and this is my first goal to reach a 'healthy' MI BMI then I may tey to lose a few more pounds. Iam just taking as it goes and see how I feel.

As for the tat I want to get a lower back one and it is different for everyone.I know some people who adjust to the pain and some don't. Also if you get something where they hae to remove and reinsert the needle it hurts more then constanly going. I want to have one designed for my lower back with my 4kids names and birthdates.

As for the biging thing it is something we all still deal with .

Shy~ my first reaction when I saw your avator was 'wow she's beautiful and look at the beautiful baby'~ So I highly doubt that people see fat when they look at you. And you're doing something about the things you are most uncomfortable about so keep it up! You will just feel better and better all the time!

Don't let anyone rain on your parade again!

I'm sorry you had to feel that insensitive remark... but oh well, WE ARE ALL FAT OR WE WOULDN'T BE HERE, now would we? We learn to deal with it... try to get rid of it, & move on.

I have two tattoos - one on my left ankle & one on my lower back. The left ankle is a seahorse & it's just beautiful! It's pink & purple with some yellow, and yes it hurt like a *****, but I love it.

The one on my back is what I affectionately refer to as my "tigerfly". It's a tiger's face in the shape of a butterfly. It's really pretty, too. Here's a pic:

My next tattoo will be done next month. My best friend & I have been best friends for 20 years this June. We're taking a trip to Key West, but before we go, we're getting matching tattoos. That will be around her birthday, in mid-April. My next tattoo will be at the end of the summer, a mermaid on my right thigh. And then in December I'll get another one, on my left breast.

I'm just one of those people who thinks tattoos are cool. Fat or skinny - bodyart is cool.

Someone once asked me when I was "due." I told her I wasn't pregnant, just fat. She looked so mortified that I almost felt sorry for her. Almost, but not quite.

I once went to a spa that had a large indoor hot tub with a cold waterfall tub next to it. All women, no clothes, no one as big as me. Of course there was no way I was putting my unclothed fat self into that hot tub. Except I really wanted to experience the hot tub/cold plunge feeling that everyone was raving about. So I turned my thinking around by telling myself that it was not my problem what other people saw or thought about it. If they had a problem with it, the problem was theirs. What was mine was the chance to own a wonderful experience. I kept that mindset going for the rest of my time at the spa. And I spent many hours enjoying the tingle on my skin.

I hope you can hold in your heart the concept that the image seen by others, and their judgment of that image, is all about them and has nothing to do with you. You are beautiful no matter how big or small you are because you are a thinking feeling human being. I am sorry that you were hurt.
