Question Health question??

Hi everyone
Does anyone know how Atkins affects people who suffer from Gout? My husband has occasional flare ups. I know it's caused by high uric acid. How will a low carb diet affect this?

I used to post here a long time ago fell back to WW and have managed not to lose anything since. My doctor has been telling me to do Atkins for over a year now and I've decided to quit being stubborn and listen to him.

Our doctor also told my husband to do Atkins since his blood work has been showing higher than normal blood sugar levels. So this time around dh is going to do Atkins with me.

Any help would be appreciated. I looked in my book but didn't really find anything helpful.

Thanks!
Joyce

Yes and no.

TOO much protein can cause gout. Had a friend whose husband was almost unable to walk because he was doing Atkins the way people who don't read the book think it's done. (pound of bacon for breakfast - all meat, no salads at buffets etc)

If your DH follows the plan correctly and watches his protein intake he should be fine. www.fitday.com is a great site to record food intake and it tells you how many grams of protein is consumed each day.

HTH!

Sorry, I don't have an answer. But hope your DH isn't in pain (or not too much) and good luck to you both!!

I have had flare-ups of Gout a few times over the last several years. I am doing Atkins successfully and haven't had a flare up since starting Atkins. Not sure if this is just coincidence or not.
