Default SB For Kids- Lunch Ideas

Anyone have kids following this? If so what do you pack for lunch for them. I have two elementary students who are going to follow this but I need some ideas for lunch besides sandwiches and veggies.

Well, my daughter isn't necessarily 'following' the SB for Kids, but I do try and use my SB for grown ups on her for lunches. Some of the things I give her are as follows:

Triscuits and cheese
baby carrots with ranch dressing in a separate container
cucumber slices (with the ranch dressing)
strawberries
grapes
orange slices
apple
green-tipped banana
melon
NSA applesauce
yogurt (plain, mixed with Splenda and a capful of vanilla...or low-carb yogurt cups, like Blue Bunny - the kids stuff is LOADED with sugar)
cheese sticks or string cheese
cottage cheese
cheese sandwich on WW bread (my dd refuses to eat meat )
sugar free pudding, made yourself adn put in a small cantainer
crystal light in a sports bottle
cash for milk at school (NO chocolate)

Hope these ideas help!! If I think of anything else, I'll let you know!!

Hi there! We have a school nurse who follows Sugar Busters, and feeds it to her kids who both have metabolic syndrome. I am going to PM her and ask her to stop over here and give you ideas that she uses.

I carry a lunch for school, (I am a teacher) and usually carry salad, or something like that. I like to make chicken salad, and put it in small tubs for the week. Then I can grab a ziplock bag with some crackers, a piece of fruit and have a decent lunch. I often carry leftovers from dinner too. Would your kids like that? You can get those soup thermoses, and put in a chili, or soup, or legal stew. A sandwich is ok, as long as you use 100% whole wheat bread. I think for kids, more starchy carbs is ok, as they need the carbohydrates for energy. Tech has given you some good ideas. I hope it helps! Feel free to join us over on the weekly support board, we would love to have you! Everyone over there is full of good ideas!

Its me! I'm the school nurse! My kids are 11 and 14, both in middle school, and both have metabolic syndrome. They take a lot of things techwife has already mentioned. But, also try whole wheat tortillas or pitas for sandwiches. Sometimes they will take crackers with meat and cheese for "mini" sandwiches for lunch. I try to keep chopped veggies, "baby" tomatoes, and fresh fruit ready in the fridge. It is much easier to fix lunches when there is a good variety to choose from where they can see it! I also have a bread maker and use it to make our own sandwich rolls. I use ww flour and run the dough cycle. Shape bread into hamburger size rolls and bake in regular oven. Then they can make sub style sandwiches, etc. If I think of other ideas, I'll let you know!
