I swear, I must be the only person who gets UNMOTIVATED by the Biggest Loser.

I've been losing, according to FitDay, an average of 1.92 pounds weight loss over the past 4 months. Which is great! My goal averaged 1.5 pounds over the course of a year, so I have room to slow down.

But then I see the weigh-ins, and someone who weighs about as much as me starting will lose like 22 pounds in a 10-day stretch. And I can't help thinking that, gosh, that's almost 3 months for me to lose that much weight!

So, it gets a little discouraging. I eat an average of 1600 calories a day, and do about 30 minutes of exercise in an average day, which is about all I'm willing to commit to. I bet that they exercise 2 hours a day and more intensely, and probably cut calories down to 1200 or 1400. Still. I usually am thrilled about the speed of my weight loss, even if after 40 pounds I still can't see it, but after the Biggest Loser I always feel a little discouraged.

I have been watching the Special Editions. If you look at most of them the ones with a lot to lose they lost around 80 pounds in 6 months. That works out to about 3 pounds per week. Faster than most people recommend but not unheard of given the amount of daily exercise they are doing. If you are putting in 3 hours of exercise a day - you can get those kinds of results. Over the last 20 months I have averaged a loss of 2.8 pounds per week. I started at 562.3 pounds and at my last weigh in, I was down to 279.6 - using good nutrition and exercise. I find the Biggest Loser to be very inspiring.

The bottom line is - it does not matter how fast it comes off - just keep it coming off.

I wish everyone the very best.

I think I remember somewhere where Jillian said they do one hour of weights/strength training a day and then up to three hours of additional cardio, spread out over the course of the day ... And yes, their calories are restricted, but you also have to remember that's all they do is workout and learn about healthy lifestyles/choices. They have the best food stocked in their kitchens and have no excuse to stray from their diet or exercise routine.

So, please, please don't feel so down. Once all of these folks get out into the real world, their weight loss slows considerably, and more than likely, they're not losing that much more than you.

Hope this helps

Bear in mind that it's probably the first time most of those people have moved in a very long time. Plus they work out for hours a day. Also, when you start eating sensibly you are also consuming less sodium and drinking a lot of water. That releases excess water from between your layers of skin, not to mention toxins. When I first started eating better, I didn't exercise until almost 3 months into my healthier eating and I lost 8 lbs in the first 2 weeks. I am almost positive it was excess water.

Don't let someone elses results get you down. We're all different. There were some months I only lost 1 or 2 lbs. The point is you are exchanging bad habits for better ones and moving every day. Be proud and happy with doing just that.

Hang in there sister!

WOW Congratulations Charles, that's awesome.

I love the BL, I always get so motivated when I watch it. I wish they would talk more about the foods they are eating.
