I'm doing a bit of catch-up here and just now had the opportunity to read Meg's wonderful post and your responses...
Yup I get the "obsessed" business too...
I guess I must be OBSESSED about brushing my teeth too since I do it at LEAST twice a day, every day. But I guess I'd rather be OBSESSED about dental care given the alternative of having missing teeth, dentures, root canals, and so on.
Let's see how Webster's defines "obsession" shall we???
Main Entry: ob·ses·sion
Pronunciation: äb-'se-sh&n, &b-
Function: noun
1 : a persistent disturbing preoccupation with an often unreasonable idea or feeling; broadly : compelling motivation <an obsession with profits>
Hmmm well I don't see anything "DISTURBING" or "UNREASONABLE" about adopting and maintaining healthy lifestyle habits - I mean look at the 2005 Guidelines For Americans - what are the recommendations for maintaining weight loss - 60-90 minutes of exercise a day? Perhaps this is "DISTURBING/UNREASONABLE" to people who "just can't" or "just won't" do it...it's just easier to poke fun of people who DO take the time to take care of themselves...IMO anyway!
