When the calendar turns to September, my thoughts always fast forward to the holidays. FYI, if you're reading this on September 1, it is 115 days until . I know, I know, many of us are still sweating out the last remaining weeks of summer but fall is upon us and winter is closer than we think. Kids are back to school and my neighborhood grocery stores and local Target already have their Halloween candy out to purchase. With the days getting shorter, the leaves turning and the temps getting cooler it's time for a check-in with yourself. So how are things going? Have you had a good summer? The last seventeen months have been unprecedented, and we've all had to pivot and prioritize our lives as we've never had to before. It hasn't been easy but resilience and persistence run strong in this thread.
So as we usher in a new month, take some time to think about where you are with your healthy goals and where you want to be. And take pride in every incremental goal/success/achievement. Stop underplaying them and telling yourself they don't matter because they do and they add up. Any progress made any day is a win!
Sending and well wishes as we all make our way through September.
As the semester has started and everything for work has picked up, I really find the need to re-evaluate the practicality of my goals from the previous month. After much reflection, I’ve decided to keep some, revise others, and eliminate a couple until I get into the swing of things again. Also, I’ve been in the process of getting my house ready to sell as we’ve found our dream house and this past weekend we found a buyer and are in the phase of working on contracts. Now that the big part of that is out of the way/less distracting, I am confident that I will exceed my goal for this month after not meeting it last month.
Best of luck to you all!
- Hot yoga at least twice a week
- Drink at least 3.5 L of hydrating fluids per day (water, decaf/caffeine free drinks, etc.)
- Prep and cook all meals at home unless out of town or having a date night
- Weigh, measure, and track all calories consumed, keeping to calculated macros
- Walk with Loki for at least 30 minutes every day I don’t have to go to campus for work

curvynotlumpy, thank you again for this monthly thread. Though I did not post last month, I read your uplifting words and I thank you again.
RunningRedHead you have so many exciting life changes happening at once. Congratulations on finding your dream home! It is very wise of you to reassess your goals to make them work with all that you have going on. Wishing you success!
August was the month that I took back control of my life, especially my eating habits and hydration. I am back to tracking calories and protein and eating healthy. But it was also a brutal month in terms of high temperatures and humidity here and me struggling with sleep, so between the heat and exhaustion, I barely moved. I am easing back into exercising by doing flexibility workouts this week. So far three straight days. Gotta build back that habit. I lost 3 pounds last month, I take comfort in that.
On a less positive note, I was diagnosed with pulpitis at the dentist’s this morning. I thought it was just sensitive teeth following a repair at the beginning of August and that the pain would eventually subside, but Monday night it prevented me from sleeping, so I knew I had to get an appointment and have it checked out. Some new bonding/medicating agent was put in where the repair was originally done and I need to take anti-inflammatory medicine as needed, until a follow-up assessment in 2 months. Keeping my fingers crossed I won’t need a root canal or even to have the tooth removed.
Have a successful and wonderful September everyone!
Curvy: Thank you for the Christmas countdown! I was noticing the Halloween displays the other day, too! I can’t wait for it, this is my favorite time of year Thank you for the inspiration and the reminder that small successes are still successes and should be recognized and celebrated. It’s so easy to be critical of ourselves and so hard to applaud our progress sometimes—shouldn’t it be the other way around?!
Martine: Yes, there are so many changes! I’m very excited for them, but I’m also finding it much to easy to use them as an excuse to stop practicing self care. I’m so glad to hear that you’ve been able to take back control over the past month—kudos to you on your loss last month
I’m sending well wishes and positive thoughts your way that your follow up appointment goes well and nothing invasive is needed
I seem to have whooshed the last two mornings, but I’m holding off on adjusting my goal weight for the month until I see if there’s a rebound. If not, then I will adjust accordingly. I would truly love to get back to the 220s by the end of the month and to be able to add a few more dancing veggies to my signature, but I don’t want to put unrealistic goals in place.
It feels like fall here today!!! I’m so excited, I love every season but summer Tonight we have a plan for an at-home date night with wine, Greek bison burgers, and chocolate mousse Happy Friday, y’all!
Thank You Curvy for starting this thread and the encouraging words! Good Luck, Everyone!

Reason: Add Information and Weigh In.
VickieLou: Good luck this month, I hope all is well
Bison burgers were delicious- we made homemade tzatziki and creamy Greek dressing. I've decided to decrease my goal for this month since the rebound from my whoosh wasn't so bad. 229.9 sounds like a reasonable goal. 2 more pounds until I can re-add a dancing broccoli
I hope everyone’s weekend is off to a great start!
Martine So glad to see you checked in! Sorry about your dental issues. Ugg...I am a big chicken at the dentist. I wish you well. Congrats on the weight loss!!I am a big believer in tracking calories. I write everything down and the calories each day. I also work on fiber. Being a vegetarian-vegan makes that easy but I still try for high fiber to keep me fuller longer.
RunningRedHead Looking forward to seeing the 6th dancing broccoli! It will be here before you know it!
My goal for September is two pounds to make it 202! I cant even really say exactly how long it's been since I've "only" weighed this weight. When I got married to my husband I weighed 230 back in 2003. I weighed 250 when I got pregnant with my daughter Olivia in 2004 so I know its basically been at least 20 years. It's weird like is this really real? I am a size 18 and not a 24? It's hard to explain but I know some of you can relate to this.
Slimmer_me: Welcome back! Best of luck to you this month!
Loganandlivsmom: I totally hear what your saying regarding not knowing how long it’s been since you’ve “only” weighed this much! Best of luck on your goal this month, you can do it!
A little uptick for me due to yesterdays indulgences at our local Scottish festival. Onward and downward!
Simmer welcome to the thread and much success to you this month and on your journey!
loganandlivsmom I have been very overweight my entire adult life, so I can relate to not remembering when was the last time I weighed this or that “lowest” weight. I’m pretty sure in my first few years working in stores, some 23 years ago, I was around 210s, but I don’t recall weighing myself during that time. Continued success this month to reach your goal!
Last week was successful in that I worked out 4 days and stayed on plan eating and hydration-wise for 5. Now to do better this week.
Hey team, how we do?
Yayyy, welcome simmer oh I hope you have great success and enjoy your journey to wellness! U got the right forum, we rock! Weight loss warriors one and all. Please don't hesitate to ask questions, there is a lot of experience in this group! Hooray!
As for me gang, best summer ever has turned into the best fall in the world! I am enjoying my life so much! Fall is wonderful in the Pacific Northwest!
On the diet front, i, um, well. As I got closer to my goal, I would set "red lines" basically, a highest weight I could be before I go back to dieting hard. Currently, I weigh in at 280.4. Red line crossed! Ouch! My summer was filled with excitement and often times bad eating decisions. I saw 270 a month or so ago . I do give myself a 7lbs variance but even with that I know I have gained. So, back to what brought me! Lol writing down everything I shove down my eating tube. I got the skills and tools to succeed. Its so psychological, the decisions we entertain and the actions we make. I originally had an ultimate goal of 270. I now believe that 270 should be my red line. And it may be even lower then that, but this is my new goal. 2or 3 lbs a month, hopefully 9 or so months. The trail can be deceptive,at first you just fly, you travel so fast. Then, the grind right, learning yourself, developing skills, acquiring tools. But if you stay strong you come out the end experiencd and proud. Your back trial seems so long. You may even be able to see the goal. But then the trail seems to stretch and your pace slows. It can become tedious, even obligatory. This is the time to work on the mental issues that have effected your life negatively. I feel like my progress toward goal has slowed but my progress to true health is taking off. Success contributes to success. It can be exponential. The most rewarding part of my journey so far!
Kinda rambling, but I do that from time to time. I love all of you and appreciate your company!
Slimmer_me: Way to go sticking to plan! I was supposed to have a dermatologist appointment today that I had to book two months in advance, but had to cancel last minute due to “covid” symptoms. I’m so sure that it’s allergies, but I don’t want to risk it and get somebody sick. What a strange world we live in these days.
Dinner last night was smoked brisket and cauliflower ‘mac’ & cheese—it was so delicious! I hope everyone is off to a great start this month—I can’t believe we’re one week into September already!
