However, I will be keeping my "long run" goal of at least 10 lbs a month...so, while I am hoping for more, anything above 10 lbs will just be a happy bonus!

Reason: daily updates...
My start weight: 271.2
Goal by end March: 265 (-6.2lb)
Since I did a good job on my steps last month I'm making my goal 12,000+ daily
Water intake daily: 96+ oz
Weekly meal planning is a must, and no going out for lunch/dinner this month.
I'm not Catholic, but I like the concept of Ash Wednesday and Lent. Today I will give thoughtful consideration to selecting an unhealthy practice to forgo, with the ultimate goal of replacing it with a more reverent and mindful practice.
I have been revisiting "The Best Life Diet". I began reading it years ago, but never moved from "Phase One" into "Phase Two" or "Phase three". If any of you remember when Oprah lost all that weight years back, it's the plan she followed. The problem is, if you don't make the changes "life changes", you will gain it back. It's not complicated really. "Phase One" is simply moving more and eliminating 6 problem foods: Fried foods, alcohol, trans fats, white flour, full fat dairy and soda pop. I do that pretty much already, except I have been using full fat dairy because I had read that it was really better for you than the lower fat alternatives. My cholesterol has gone up up significantly since I switched to full fat, so I was going to switch back anyway. You also start eating three meals plus one to two snacks daily. Breakfast is important. LOL. It is a very healthy way of eating, and eventually allows you to add back the problem foods in limited quantities depending on your activity level. So, you earn your splurges! You weigh in and then no weighing for 4 weeks. I weighed in at 180 on the nose last week. And awaaaaay we go!
I hope you all have a fantastic and successful March! Spring is coming! It's been raining all morning and the sun just peeked out! Yay! I'll take encouragement wherever I can find it!
April

Hi Everyone! This will be my first time participating in one of these. I think a little accountability will do me some good. I made it to onderland last year for the first time in over a decade. Unfortunately, I let holiday derailment turn into semi-permanent derailment and gained 18 pounds back. Hoping for March to be my new start
Starting Weight- 215
Goal- 205
Day 1- 210 (I'm not sure if I trust my scale here or not. I last weighed in at 215 10 days ago. I've had a good few days, but not that good. We'll see where I am tomorrow)
Thank you everyone for you nice words. For those who asked how I was celebrating it, I bought myself that white dress I was on about. Love it.......I then decided to go and buy a pair of skinny jeans from a store I could never buy clothes in. They go up to a US 16, which would of fitted me, but instead I bought the 14. They fitted..... but they looked horrific on So I put them on a hanger on the back of my bedroom door, along with a summer T, which also fitted, but looked all bumpy in. They are my summer motivation and prize for 75lbs off. I see them every day and just want to look amazing in them so that's my plan.
I also Love that you all call it Fat Tuesday, and that's coming from a Catholic Aint called that over here in the UK.
When working at a camp in NY, the theme for the week was holidays/ celebrations, to which I choose April Fools Day. Dressed as a Jester, I told over 400 kids throughout the week that The Scottish celebrated a day called Pizza Day, in celebration of the Italians coming to Scotland it is also celebrated on the 1st April. Some older teens clocked on to my wind up, however many English members of staff needed some convincing. I described it similarly to Pancake Tuesday..... To where all American campers had no idea what I was talking about...... Later to find it called Fat Tuesday (which I find more fun sounding). All of a sudden, all English staff were convinced that Pizza day was an actual thing in Scotland. I later told them all it was an April fool that I had made up in the sweaty NY heat of summer . But I felt its an appropriate story for the Fat Tuesday holiday.
So while Fat Tuesday sounds amazing!! What do you eat?
We call it Pancake Tuesday here in the UK as the ingredients you usually had left in the house would always make Pancakes. We like to stay traditional n all that
Vladadog: yikes! I hope your surgery goes well and you're on the mend soon!
Vivian: there is definitely something going around (also the flu)! Sending u all the vitamin C & zinc & soup so you're feeling better!!!
Curvy: Good luck with your Lent resolution (is that what it's called for Lent?)!
Ophelia: Podcasts are my motivation to go for a walk. I don't let myself listen to them except when exercising. My fav one is about an hour long so I usually keep walking until it ends.
Scotsgal: Love the idea of Pizza Day! If only it were a real thing! Boyfriend is out of town on a business trip, and were it any other day I would totally order a pizza for myself and pig out without him being all judgey-judgey. Sadly, keto diet allows for zero cheat days or I get out of ketosis so here I am pondering what healthy thing I'll actually eat for dinner. lol Also, Pancake Day is totally a thing here in the US, but I think it depends on what part of the US you grew up in.
February Summary:
1st weigh-in (1/31/17): 214.0 pounds, today's weigh-in (2/28/17): 194.4 pounds! :O Total weight lost in 1st month: 19.6 pounds! *so much jazz hands!*
Saturday was a murder mystery dinner party with some friends. Tried to convince boyfriend that I could eat ketodiet before going but he put his foot down and said I was going to insult the chef by not eating something at the party lol. Foods available: hummus with chips, cheese plate, dinner rolls, chicken and seafood gumbo w/rice, salad with ranch dressing, & king cake (it was a Mardi Gras themed party). Also, bloody marys and hurricanes. Ironically, my character for the mystery story was also on a low-carb diet so I could just pretend I was "in character" when refusing delicious delicious dinner rolls and cake. Mmmmm....carbs!
I'm amazed that we've blown through the first two months of the year!
Rennie, good to see you! Fresh month, fresh start. We can do this!
Elaine21! Glad you found us and moved into the neighborhood. Please post often. I've found the accountability and support here invaluable.
You have done amazing, howdytx! I'm not sure jazz hands adequately covers it so I'll give you a and Sure, resolution is as good of term as any. I am Catholic and I believe the official term is sacrifice. And like all good resolutions and sacrifices, this one will be a challenge! I'll keep everyone posted as to my progress.
Scotsgal, I love clothes as motivation! As Homer Simpson would say, "mmm, pizza day."
LurchMamma: I was/am a big fan of how Oprah lost her weight the second time (NOT the liquid diet). I thought it was sane and reasonable. I have couple of the books she wrote with Bob Green during that time but am not familiar with the one you write about. Wishing you much and success this month!
Okay, that's about it for today. I am invited to dinner by one of my students. It's called "Dinner With 10 Strangers" and each member of her Honor Society can ask up to 10 people to a potluck dinner the society is hosting. I'm excited to meet the other strangers and wonder if there will be any folks there I already know. Such a clever idea!

side note: just realized I'm being a sadist/masochist (whichever one is the one where I like to torture myself) because I've been binge-watching the Great British Baking Show and salivating over the fabulous looking pastries and cakes and breads and here I am on an ultra low-carb diet and can have none of those
