I love to get spinach and have never been denied it. However there was a location that I have never returned to that I ordered a salad. I wanted it made of spinach. They gave me maybe 1/2 a cup. I asked for more as that was the bulk of my salad. They said no. I asked why and they said "because." I told them that I was not going to pay the price for a few leaves of spinach and left. It seems rather strange to me...

I assume the lady didn't speakee da English. Most of our shops here are foreign owned and every so often I will come across someone there that doesn't speak enough to get by.

When I lived in the Dallas/Fort Worth area of Texas, my husband and I would always get a sandwich with spinach.

Where we live now, none of them have spinach so this issue doesn't affect us (most unfortunately).

I don't put up with crappy service. I'll tip well if you do well (20%+), 10-15% if you don't screw anything up. But man, if you are rude, I will rip you a new one. One night, hubby and I were at a restaurant and got the worst service. We had to get up and ask the bartender for refills, carry out boxes, etc. Our waiter was too interested in the football game on tv to check on us. He got zero tip and a nice paragraph on the back of the receipt why so his boss would see it too.

Oh, and to the person who had their tip inflated - that's credit card fraud and I would have called the manager and asked for a copy of the receipt, disputed it with the bank and went to the cops. That's a stones throw away from stealing someones card information because you want to reward yourself with a new pair a shoes. [/end ]

I hope the Manager followed up on your Online comments and takes care of the employee's customer service issues. Jared would not be happy You should venture back in there in a week or two about same time of day and try ordering again. See if you get the same attitude or a reasonable explanation as to why they aren't willing to WOW their customer. Good Luck!

That is so weird. I used to work at Subway (around 2007) and we never charged extra for spinach... maybe they changed their policy? If so, they should have had that clearly labeled on the menu, just like they do for the double-meat option. Ridiculous!

WOW! That is so crazy! I don't eat at Subway anymore, but I used to eat it all the time and was NEVER charged for spinach. The Subway here was always very generous with the veggies. They never had a problem with my request for "lots of olives".

Our local-ish Subway is seasonal (but 24 hours...w00t)...and, since we live in a remote-ish area, the "Five-dollar footlong" is more like nine-dollar. I'll have to look for indications of spinach famine when it opens up again in about a month and a half.

Last summer, the only thing I can remember them charging extra for is bacon (if it wasn't part of the original sandwich description) and the avocado (and, to be honest, a sad little amount of it)...but avocados really don't like to be shipped. Our situation being what it is, I'd be a lot more understanding of fresh veggie stinginess than I would be about jarred/canned items like pickles or olives.

However, since we get charged so much more from the get-go (to absorb shipping costs/damage losses/etc) it's understandable that they don't try to charge us extra for most specific items. I imagine that trying to stay within certain price parameters is difficult, even in more connected areas, as the price of everything increases.

I know that our Subway's workers get a lot of attitude from tourists who are used to ample veggies and $5-ish happy sammich time...meanwhile, I fully expect that we'll be paying at least $10 this season.

Heck, I'm just outside on Anchorage proper and our foot longs are still like $7.00! It was that way when I lived in Juneau, too. Yay Alaska price jacking

I am appreciating Maryland a whole lot more after reading how expensive food is in Alaska!

I'm also having a fierce spinach craving right now!
