Default Threw out the cake...

So, going through the weekly grocery store ads, I noticed that Pillsbury made a sugar-free cake mix, and that it was on sale. I'd read at hungry-girl.com about a couple ways to make box mix cakes that sounded interesting...for example, just adding about a cup of greek yogurt and a cup of water to the cake mix, instead of adding eggs and oil. I made a sugar free devils food cake, and it was pretty tasty, and about 130 calories a serving. However, it certainly wasn't to die for. I had a piece last night with some cool whip free after dinner, and ended up having another piece before bed (still within my calorie limit for the day, but just barely). This afternoon, I had another slice, and couldn't stop craving more. There's no one else home this weekend to pawn the cake off on, so when I started to go for another slice a bit ago, I threw the rest of the thing out instead...not my proudest moment....but at the same time, kinda happy with my choice

Sometimes you just have to get rid of the temptation so kudos to you for making such a tasty treat and recognizing that it was a bit too much to hold on to!

Thanks for the support all... I always feel a bit guilty throwing out food...feels like throwing out $$$, but it's definitely better than the alternative

Hi Spixiet!

That's awesome.... it can be so, so hard to resist temptation, especially when you're alone.

Another trick I use is when I bake something, I portion it out and then immediately stick in in the freezer. That way I can't just grab it, and I have to thaw it out and think about it/decide if I have caloric room for it before I eat it.

Either way, great job today!

I love that idea in theory, but I fear that for me, it would only lead to an unnatural love of cakesicles.

Great job on tossing that cake, spixiet!

Throwing it in the trash was a good idea It's hard to do, but always better to throw it out than to hurt yourself with it.

good decision. I've experimented several times this last 167 days (counting? ) with introducing foods that I don't eat but I do like and wouldn't kill me in moderation. Sometimes I get to 36 hours but then I end up convincing myself just one more, just one more. And yes, frozen cake is absolutely delicious!
If it's not too bad for them, I feed it to the dogs.
Otherwise I put it in the sink and run water/washing up liquid over it until it dissolves or at least gets icky.
Otherwise (hold onto your lunches) I put it in the outdoor bin, with a bag of doggydoo on top (I have 4 dogs, I don't go out looking for it ewwwww).

Otherwise - I've been known to scrape teabags, spaghetti sauce, just about anything off chocolate cake if it's in the indoor bin, a la Miranda in Sex and the City!

Well done!

Go you! If only we could all be so good at saying "no." I NEVER bake because I know I'll just either eat it all or fantasize about eating it all and feel deprived, but kudos to you for being able to say "enough is enough!"

Rosinante - I do that too with the water and washing up liquid. I don't have dog sh!t available but I find soap is a powerful enough deterrent.
