Talking Husbands and motivation!

So my darling husband has been NOTHING but supportive over the last 18 months. He's talking me down off the ice cream ledge at midnight, thrown the chips in the garbage, bought me tons of fruits and veggies.

He's 230 5 foot 11 and NOT happy with his body. He wants to get down to 190 pounds and he does not care really how long it takes for him to get there. He's active, eats VERY well at home (because I buy and cook for him) but portion size and WORK EATING is bad bad bad for him.

He finally... asked me for help. I've offered a bunch of times to help plan his food etc but he never wanted me to. Now he does So I helped him figure out how many calories to start with (2100) and how to pair proteins with fruits etc etc. I got him started on Livestrong.com (as an aside... I think I'm going to switch to them from fitday... WAY MORE user friendly!) and he's had his breakfast, snack and lunch for today according to plan. He's commenting that it feels like he's always eating and he's actually full!

So... yah. I'm excited for him. He can't do the scale every day so we're commiting to a ONE MONTH ON PLAN and ONE MONTH OFF THE SCALE challenge. That will be hard for me but I can do anything right?

Wish him luck!

Thumbs up. Good eating + fun activity is a great hobby to share with a spouse. My husband recently (finally) listened to me telling him to eat more protein, and made a welcome breakthrough in his strength-training. I'm hopeful that soon he'll also let me help him with a more detailed analysis of his diet, so he can lose some more weight (he's already lost about 80 pounds, but wants to lose perhaps 20 more).

Girl, you can do it! Look what you have already done. As I PM you before, I did the scale challenge, and for a scale junkie like me it was HARD to stay off the scale..... but I did it...... and that is what pushed me to goal. I was using the scale before for a food plan, and I did not need to do that. So, when I stayed off it for a month..... that is when I got the boost.

Good luck. And it is great you are able to help your DH. Did you ever think in a million years at your highest weight people would ever ask for your nutritional help? I never did and I have people ask me all the time. They stop me in the store to ask.

Oh, super fantastic!!! Our hubbies are similar. My husband is 6'0" 235. He'd love to get to 180 but thinks that's a pipe dream. I have no idea!! It's wonderful taking this on together. I did it for a month by myself, but it's so much easier having him aboard. He does best when we eat meals together. He still has a tendency to over serve himself. He often looks at my plate and then puts something back.

That's so funny, my bf decided he wants to lose some weight too! He's about 6'1", 250-260 (but refuses to say anything above 240), and wants to get to 200. I was quite impressed with him yesterday, he ate asparagus, carrots and steamed chicken breasts quite willingly - he's more of a bread and pasta kinda guy.

Anyways.. GOOD LUCK to your husband, but I also agree.. with you on his side, he's not going to need it! It sure is lovely having your partner along for the ride
