Yep. I would definitely look for the brand, especially because gumbo differs so significantly from one recipe to the next. If you're strictly counting calories, you would need that information. However, the order the ingredients are listed would also provide some help, as they list the ingredients in order, starting with the most prevelant ingredient. (For example, if sugar or its equivalent is listed second, that would be a problem. If it's listed last, it's probably okay. However, since you're probably more worried about fat than sugar, that's less helpful, as fat is really calorie dense).
