I have a German food scale that I LOVE and was rated best by Cooks Illustrated. It measures in ounces or grams and is sensitive. It's the Futura scale from Soehnle. I would recommend any scale by Soehnle Even my bath scale is by Soehnle.
Mine is made by Salter, though I can't find the exact model on Amazon. Measures in grams AND ounces. It does occasionally act fritzy on me, but I've had it over 3 years now!
I bought a postal scale awhile ago and had it in my closet so I use that. You can zero it out (a must have feature!) and it goes in grams, oz's, pounds, etc. It's quite accurate. I got a really good deal on it on Ebay I think.
I have a fresco I really like. My sister picked it up for me on sale a while back, so I don't remember how much exactly it was. I think 30 on sale? Anyways it's quite good, measures up to 5 kg total, switches between a bunch of different measurements, and you can zero inbetween weighing things.
I'm in love with my Starfrit Kitchen Scale. Measures in grams/ounces, zeroes out the scale and back again just by pressing a button, very accurate, and the batteries have lasted forever.
I HATE my scale and am very interested in getting a new one that is digital, weighs in oz and grams, and let me zero it out easily. I will follow this thread and save my pennies.
Not to toot my own horn, but I just reviewed the EatSmart scale on my blog, and I LOVE MINE. And I am giving one away on my blog (a new one)... I love it because it not only weighs but calculates nutrition info for the food on the scale.
This is a timely discussion for me. I have been using my old Weight Watchers scale from about 35 years ago. The bowl that came with it was lost long ago. I have been balancing a small rubbermaid bowl on the one inch diameter disk! No fun!
When I started looking at scales, I was amazed at the selection. I have been debating between the EatSmart Digital Nutrition Scale on Amazon and the new Biggest Loser Nutritional Scale that QVC is selling. Both have nutritional data but with the BL scale you are supposed to be able to also add entries to the program. BUT the biggest loser scale is on back order until May. The BL scale is also getting some negative feedback on the QVC site.
I have also wondered if I should just go with a cheaper scale that just weighs the food. I think that I would go with the Escali Primo Digital Multifunctional Scale then.
Lyn, Thanks for the review. I think you just helped me make up my mind!
If I buy this from Amazon, I will be sure to use the 3 Fat Chicks store link so that they get a percentage of the price. It is the least that I can do for 3 Fat Chicks since this forum has helped me so much!
hmm i will have to look around. I would love a digital food scale. Right now I have a stainless steel one w/ a dial. Does both grams and oz and I don't think it's been wrong....I never tested it
I looked on the bottom of my scale it says that it is a Michael Graves Design. It has been a while since I got it - but it is great - it is digital, has a clock - goes back and forth between ounces and grams. Has a bowl that you can use or you can zero it out to either weigh directly on it or use a different container. I think I got it at Target.
