Ways Losing Weight Increases Confidence

Losing weight is a great way to boost your confidence and feel better about yourself. It’s not just about the numbers on the scale or how many inches you’ve lost. Weight-loss good for your body and it’s good for your soul. Here are some other ways that losing weight increases confidence.

1. More Energy

Losing weight frees your body to expend energy elsewhere. You won’t have to lug around those extra pounds, so it will be easier for you to get up and do other things. You might be able to play with your children more or shop longer without getting tired so quickly. When you have more energy, you feel happier, which then leads to feeling more confident.

2. Getting Noticed

What better confidence-booster is there than someone telling you how great you look? When you’ve worked hard to lose weight and tone up, it feels wonderful to have someone else acknowledge it. It will give you the momentum to keep working at it if you haven’t already reached your goal, and if you have reached your goal, it will help you to maintain your weight. When the compliments start coming your way, don’t wave them off. Graciously accept them with a smile, and savor them. You worked hard for them!

3. Success

Confidence comes from success. And the harder the challenge, the sweeter the reward. Losing weight can be very difficult, so when you have succeeded, it is empowering. You begin to be able to picture yourself tackling other challenges in your life. You lose some of the fear that you had been carrying with those extra pounds, and you gain the confidence to clear hurtles that had previously slowed you down or kept you from reaching your goals.

4. Lifestyle Changes

To keep the weight off, you have to make some lifestyle changes. Those changes breed confidence. When you exercise regularly, you release endorphins that make you feel happy. You will eat healthier foods that help your body to function at its best. You’ll begin to see that eating and working out are not the only changes that have come about from your weight loss. You’ll feel better about doing things that you were uncomfortable with before, and that will lead you to feeling happier about your life.

5. Shed the Outer Shell

When you are overweight, you are like a turtle that carries a protective shell. You use your weight as an excuse to not do things. You use it to hide who you really are. Losing those extra pounds means that you can emerge as the person that you’ve always wanted to be. You can feel more comfortable in your clothes, walk with a bounce in your step, and smile at strangers. When the extra weight is gone, you lose many of the excuses that you may have used to not reach your potential as a person. This can also make you feel vulnerable, but remember all of the work that you had to do to reach your weight-loss goals. If you did that, then you can do anything!
