The Warrior Diet: 5 Great Snacks

The Warrior Diet is based on survival science and focuses on the behaviors of past cultures such as nomads, hunter-gatherers, the Romans and the Greeks. The author of the Warrior Diet, Ori Hofmekler, believes that looking at these earlier cultures can provide a solution for weight gain and other diseases. The principle behind Hofmekler’s diet is based on the belief that a cycle of undereating and overeating will help people reduce body fat. Due to this, the Warrior Diet has two phases, an undereating phase and an overeating phase. Furthermore, the Warrior Diet states that there are particular foods combinations that will help promote weight loss. Below are 5 foods that can be eaten as snacks for individuals on the Warrior Diet.

Snack Idea #1: Fruit

Eating whole fruits is recommended in moderation while on the Warriot Diet. Ori Hofmekler recommends fruits that have a low-glycemic carbohydrate level, yet are still high in nutrients. He recommends berries such as blackberries, strawberries and raspberries. Other recommended fruits include apples, grapefruits, oranges and kiwis.

Snack Idea #2: Raw Vegetables

While on the Warrior Diet, dieters are advised to eat raw green vegetables to help detoxify the body. An excellent snack on the Warrior Diet would be a cup of fresh carrot juice.

Snack Idea #3: Kefir

Ori Hofmekler advises fast-assimilating proteins such as yogurts or kefir as a snack on the Warrior Diet. These foods will provide lean protein that is easily digestible. The recommended serving size is 8 ounces. Remember to avoid mixing proteins. Only one protein is allowed at a time.

Snack Idea #4: Nuts

A perfect afternoon snack on the Warriot Diet is a handful of raw nuts. Hofmekler advises raw nuts as a snack, but only in the afternoon hours.

Snack Idea #5: Soup

Soups are highly recommended on the Warrior Diet. The diet promotes vegetable, broth based and miso soups. One great soup is a potato-onion tomato soup because it combines filling potatoes with nutrient rich vegetables. Below is the recipe for the potato-onion tomato soup:

  • 2 lbs potatoes, peeled and chunked
  • 4 cups plum tomatoes with juice, chopped
  • 1 qt chicken stock
  • 4 onions, sliced
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • ½ tsp chicken stock
  • ¼ tsp pepper

To prepare this soup, take a large saucepan and combine tomatoes, potatoes and chicken stock. Season with salt and pepper. Bring this mixture to a boil and then reduce heat to a simmer. Simmer, partly covered for 1 to 1 ½ hours. Stir occasionally. When soup is finished, break up the potatoes slightly with a wooden spoon.

Once soup is finished, heat a skillet over medium heat. Add oil and warm. Add the onions and sauté until translucent. Add onions to the soup and simmer for 5 minutes. Stir the soup occasionally. Enjoy one cup of the soup for a snack.
