The Green Smoothies Diet

The green smoothies diet was created by Robyn Openshaw, who is a nutritionist and a health educator. The diet does not just involve drinking green smoothies, as you can still have other nutritious foods throughout the day to ensure you get a variety of nutrients.

The Premise

Leafy green vegetables are some of the most nutritious foods, but one of the hardest foods to incorporate into your diet simply because they are not so tasty. The green smoothies diet was designed to help you incorporate these foods into your diet by blending vegetables with fruits and other sweeteners to make them more enjoyable.

The Diet

The green smoothies diet helps you to adjust to the diet by giving you 3 separate plans to follow. The first plan is a 3-day smoothie fast, then a 30-day fat-burner cleanse, and then you move on to the green smoothie plan for life. You are encouraged to adjust to the diet at your own pace, and should work your way up to consuming 1 quart of green smoothies each day. This will provide you with up to 15 servings of fruits and vegetables each day.

The diet encourages you to use lots of greens in your smoothies as well as root vegetables and sea vegetables, herbs, fruits, nuts and coconuts. You can even add yogurt, raw chocolate, and natural sweeteners, such as Stevia, honey or maple syrup, to make them tasty, and resemble the traditional smoothies that you are used to having.

By adding all these nutritious green smoothies into your diet you will be able to conquer your food cravings as they are often the result of not enough nutrition. You will gain a lot more energy, and they will help you to lose unwanted weight, without starving yourself.

Leafy greens are a good source of calcium which can help your bones and teeth stay strong and healthy. They help to reduce cholesterol levels and balance the blood sugar. Green smoothies can also help your skin to clear up, improve your hair, and strengthen your immune system so that you will be able to resist most common ailments and diseases.

Even though you are able to add fruit and other sweeteners to your smoothies, some of the recipes may not be very tasty. This is true especially if you are not used to green smoothies. You may also experience fatigue, headaches or other detox symptoms as your body adjusts to the green smoothies diet.

The plan focuses on incorporating the smoothies into your diet, but does not dictate what other foods you should eat for your other meals. This leaves you to ensure that you obtain proper nutrients from your other foods. It also does not specify an exercise program for you to follow.

The green smoothies diet is not just a fad, but rather it is a lifestyle that will help you to maintain your weight and health as well as a youthful appearance. The diet is suitable for just about anyone including children and teenagers. However, those with medical conditions should check with their doctor before starting this diet.
