Pros and Cons of the 7 Day Diet

All diets have their pros and cons, and it’s important to know them before beginning the diet. This is especially true with fad diets, such as the 7 day diet. The 7 day diet makes the claim that you can lose 10 pounds in 7 days. What are the pros and cons of such a diet?

Pro: It Is Inexpensive

Dieting is expensive! Many diets require expensive membership fess or diet supplements. With the 7 day diet, the only cost is the food itself. You don’t need to buy any supplements or appetite suppressants. You don’t need a gym membership or expensive exercise equipment.

Pro: The Diet Is Short-Term

Since the diet lasts for only 7 days, it doesn’t require a huge commitment that scares away many people. Some people try a long term diet and find it doesn’t fit their schedule or habits and quit early on. The 7 day diet lasts for only a week and many people find they can commit for such a short period of time.

Pro: It’s Easy

One appeal of the 7 day diet is that there are no complicated exercises or calorie counting.

Despite the pros of this diet, there are many, many more reasons why this diet is no good. This diet can be unhealthy and dangerous, and worst of all, it isn’t going to help with long term weight loss goals.

Con: Does Not Teach Healthy Lifestyle Habits

The short term, quick fix nature of the 7 day diet does not offer you any solutions for long term weight loss goals. You do not learn proper nutrition or exercise habits, which are important to keep up your weight loss. You will likely gain back any weight loss as soon as you return to your original diet and habits.

Con: No Support

This is the downside to a free diet plan. While you can find plenty of information about this diet on the Internet, as well as several variants, you have no support center to turn to in case you have questions or problems.

Con: Not Enough Calories

Many of the foods eaten on the 7 day diet are too low in calorie content to sustain normal body functions. Not only will you be lacking in energy and feel fatigued, your body will go into “starvation mode,” burning off muscle mass and slowing metabolism (making weight loss even more difficult in the future).

Con: Malnourishment

As with any diet that restricts certain types of foods, the 7 day diet poses the danger of preventing your body from receiving the proper nutrients it needs to function properly. Vitamin and mineral deficiencies can lead to serious health conditions later on.
