The Peanut Butter Diet began as a simple article by Holly McCord that was featured in Prevention Magazine. The article became so popular that the publishers of Prevention decided to expand upon the idea by writing an entire book. The diet itself does include quite a bit of peanut butter, but it also has many other details that all equate to effective weight loss.
The Premise: The Peanut Butter Diet is based upon a controlled calorie diet plan. The diet allows 1500 calories per day for women and 2200 calories per day for men. In addition to the daily 4-6 tablespoons of peanut butter that are permitted, dieters will have to follow a careful diet plan that includes counting daily calories.
The Diet: Surprisingly, peanut butter is not really at the center of this diet. A typical breakfast on the Peanut Butter Diet plan includes cereal, milk, and a banana. Lunch generally includes a peanut butter and jelly sandwich (on whole wheat bread) with a piece of fruit. Dieters will also enjoy a snack (snacks tend to be peanut butter based).
Most of the dinner plans within this diet book do not include peanut butter. Instead, lean meats, lots of vegetables, and plenty of fruits are encouraged. Additionally, dieters will find that the Peanut Butter Diet slowly eliminates whole milk dairy products, margarine, mayonnaise, white bread, and refined sugar.
While this diet works for many people, it should be mentioned that the diet also requires moderate daily activity. According to the diet’s author, Holly McCord, dieters must exercise for at least 45 minutes per day in order to lose weight. McCord also claims that this diet will effectively help people lose 1/2 pound per week.
What to Get Excited Over:
- Peanut butter!

- Vegetarian friendly
Things to Consider:
- Dieters must be willing to exercise for 45 minutes per day

Verdict: This diet will work for those that follow it. Any diet that includes consuming less calories than you burn will prove to be effective. The Peanut Butter Diet is particularly popular, since it allows dieters to have some of those “forbidden” snacks and treats. In addition, dieters won’t feel hungry or dissatisfied at the end of the day.
