How to Launch Your Diet with a Cooking Party

If you are trying to lose weight, a cooking party is probably the last thing on your list. But in reality, hosting a cooking party can be a great way to come up with a variety of new recipes that are low in fat and calories, and still taste great. Invite as many friends as possible, and tell them to bring their healthiest recipes.

Choosing a Theme

Launching your diet with a cooking party is a great idea. However, before you begin to plan your party, you must first come up with some ideas regarding the theme. The theme can range in complexity from something as simple as a “healthy dessert” party, to something as complex as “healthy Spanish-themed tapas.” Be sure to think out your theme before settling on one. For example, while it may be fun to have a party that is extremely specific, your guests may have a hard time coming up with ideas. Think about who you’re inviting and how their personalities can fit into the theme of the party.

Talk to Your Guests

Once you have finally settled on a theme, talk to your guests. This can be done in a number of ways. You can send out an invitation to your guests, saying that you are starting a diet, and need their help to come up with ideas for foods you can eat while on the diet. In contrast, you could instead call each of your invitees, and personally invite them. This technique is better for a number of reasons. First, by inviting your guests personally, they will be more likely to come. Secondly, by speaking to each of them, you can get an idea of what types of food each person will be bringing, and therefore will be able to plan what food items will still be needed. For example, if after speaking to your guests, you discover that most plan to bring desserts, you will need to provide a main dish and some sides.


Once your guest list is lined up, you can begin to experiment with your own dish. Think back to what your guests are bringing, and plan accordingly. In addition, be sure to keep the theme of your party in mind. Start several weeks before the actual party will occur. Experiment with a new recipe each week, and try it out on your family. Keep the best recipe in mind for the party.

Invite a Registered Dietitian

You may want to consider inviting a registered dietitian to your party. Chances are, you’re not the only one among your circle of friends who is interested in weight loss. A registered dietitian will be able to provide some great tips and recipes about healthy, delicious meals. Ask your doctor or nurse for a good recommendation.
