How a Healthy Sex Life Promotes Weight Loss

A healthy sex life could mean more than just a solid relationship. In fact, more and more women are starting to talk about the health and weight loss benefits that come with a great sex life. Although connected in some way, all the benefits experienced don’t necessarily come from the direct act of making love itself, although there are certainly some benefits that are directly linked.

Directly Linked Benefits

A healthy sex life means more calories burned throughout a week, which helps with your bottom line (no pun intended) when it comes to losing weight. In fact, having sex three to four times a week and being an active participant in the process can offer a substantial calorie deficit. Believe it or not, sex can also help build strength and tone in areas such as the thighs, butt and arms.

Making love on a regular basis is also a good way to practice your breathing techniques that believe it or not, can be used when working out. It’s easy to forget to breathe when exerting yourself during exercise and during sex, which makes it a perfect reason to practice more often.

Indirectly Linked Benefits

In addition to the weight loss and health benefits experienced that are obviously due to a healthy sex life, there are some benefits linked in a way you might never have thought of. For example, a gain in stamina might be attributed solely to your running regimen, but if you have a healthy sex life, chances are some of that stamina can be attributed.

Because sex relieves stress and tends to boost immunity, better performance during workouts can be expected and chances are you won’t get sick nearly as often as you used to. Another benefit that might not immediately be directly linked to a healthy sex life is higher self esteem. More self esteem can make it easier to stick to a healthy eating plan on a regular basis which again, can greatly benefit you if you’re trying to lose weight.

A healthy sex life offers many benefits, and not just for weight loss. It can help reduce the chances of prostate cancer in men, it can provide greater intimacy between a couple and it can accommodate even the crankiest of people by upping the “feel good” hormones after sex. It can even help to reduce pain in both men and women, relieving PMS symptoms, back aches, arthritis pain and headaches.

Initially, trying to pinpoint the benefits of your sex life might seem overwhelming. More than likely you’re already striving to be the healthiest you can be, so many things might contribute to your weight loss success. However, if you are having sex multiple times a week, there is no doubt that you can contribute at least a little of your success to the man in your life.
