YOU: On a Diet - August chatter

Good morning to everyone. It is nice to see new members in the group, I know we all get busy so it's nice to know someone's usually around here.

Today I complete 9 weeks on the plan, I couldn't wait until tomorrow to weigh, I just somehow felt this was a good week, have upped the intensity of my exercise, well, anyway I hit 21 pounds this morning. I have a dachshund who weighs 11 pounds so I picked him up and said "I've lost almost 2 of you!"

Looking forward to continued support on here. Today begins exercise challenge, that will be fun. I would also like to find some new recipes this month. I too, have gone by the guidelines of the book and use one of their breakfasts and lunches every day, some of their dinners but mostly just guidelines.

What is the BFL exercise plan? I wouldn't mind having a change in my exercise routine.

YOU: On a Diet - August chatter

Wow - August already - can you believe it? I'm only got 3 months left until my birthday, so I'm putting the pressure on myself to make some progress by then. As a present to myself. Always good to be on track going into the holiday season.... Geez, can't believe I'm thinking about that as well - eek!

Have a great one - I'm working from home today, so can be online a bit.

Karen,
The BFL exercise plan is pretty stringent - you alternate weight lifting and cardio days, and workout 6 days a week. But, it's really only about 4 hours of working out each week total, and gives some great results. The weight lifting is divided into upper body days and lower body days, and uses a pyramid method of lifting each body part to failure.

You may want to check the book out at the library to see what you think - Body for Life by Bill Phillips.

Augh!!!! Time is flying by....too fast....too fast! I am ready for the challenge but I only get one point today for drinking water. Not a good way to start out the month but hey.....I started out like gang busters last month and didn't keep it up. DH and I are supposed to fly to Vegas on the 31st of August......would love to have some weight gone by then....20 would be good but I know that won't happen. Time to get seriously serious to see if I can stay on program for an entire month. Way to go Karen!!!!! Cindy.....I may have to check the book out myself....need a little shake up. The Wii Fit is fun but I am not see a lot of progress.

Another hot day in Texas. Quite a redundant thing to say I guess.

Had dinner guests over last night, I made the chicken kabobs and tabouleh from the book, did pretty well except for some extra wine.

It will be more exercising indoors today. Next week is supposed to be worse.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Food and water was good today but the exercise wasn't where it needed to be.....will do better tomorrow.

Iwanawurkit 08-03-2008 12:01 PM

Today will be the day I put a :sunny: on my points challenge....I know I am going to earn 4 pts today!!!!!

karen0117 08-04-2008 07:33 AM

Kim:

I guess I'm a little confused by the points thing. How do you get 4 points? And is this a separate thing from the exercise thread?

Hello everyone.

Well, I was off to a good start last week, then the weekend rolled around ... anyhow, managed to put back everything that came off (my usual story). Quite a bummer. I was excited about seeing a 4 pound loss but I suppose it was all just water.

If you don't mind my asking ... how long have each of you been on the YOAD program? I see that there is progress on everyone's ticker ... that gives me some hope that this will work for me too (if I can just get past the "poor me" self-sabatoging stage).

Keep up the good work!

I'm back at it ...

Iwanawurkit 08-04-2008 07:13 PM

Karen....the August Point Challenge. If you follow the food plan...2pts....drink all your water 1 pt and if you exercise.....1 pt.....totally of 4 pts if you stay on program.

I'm inspired....I have been doing YOAD for 1 year and 7 months. I had several major bumps in the road and had to make many YOU turns. I really got serious in December 07. For some reason...the weight is coming off very slowly. Up and down and it just intensified in January when I joined the gym because I guess muscle weighs more than fat? That's what they tell me.

Hi gals! I'm happy to report today being completely on plan! I even made it to the gym at 6:30 this morning! Now I just need to keep it up!

I hear ya Cindy! I have been on plan since Saturday and the weight is already starting to come off. I am down 3 pounds since Saturday. I guess the journalling thing is really helpful. DD's fiance is doing the points of weight watchers too. We have points written on EVERYTHING....that is helpful too. It is easy to incorporate the YOAD with the Weight Watchers. Doing the Pick and Stick for Breakfast and Lunch sure makes things easier and all the fiber really keeps things moving.
More later....

I am inspired:

I have been on YOAD since May 31 and have lost 21 pounds as of last Friday. I have been pretty faithful with the guidelines with the exception of about 3-4 social occasions where I had some extra wine. I haven't missed a day of walking, have been doing the YOU workout 3 times a week with the exception of 1 week when I only did it twice.

Your ticker looks great! The most weight I've ever lost at one time was 17 pounds last year when I tried another program, (which I quickly regained and more) so I am quite excited to see substantial weight-loss from this program. Thanks for sharing.

Karen, that's great! That is about the same rate I lost the weight last year on the program I was doing. It was a 60-day program. I also tried to walk 30 min 5 out of 7 days but didn't always do it. But the eating part of the program allowed me to eat whatever I wanted. (I think this freedom hurt me in the long run.)

Well, congratulations to you both and thanks for sharing! There doesn't seem to be many of us doing YOAD compared to the rest of the forum, so it is nice to know that there are a few of us here and that this program does work. I plan to make it a lifestyle, not a diet. I've bounced around from diet to diet trying to find the one that will magically whisk away the weight once and for all and I've finally realized that (for me anyhow) it doesn't exist. Looking back to the days when I was thin, I can remember that it was a rare occasion that I would eat lots of junk food. I just didn't desire it, so I didn't eat it. Or better put: I wasn't eating it, so I never desired it! ;) (Now that I understand the principles of YOAD, I undestand why!)

Iwanawurkit 08-10-2008 12:29 PM

I am down 3.4 pounds this week! I love it when things are going well!
