Starting the thread. Be back later.

I weighed in this morning and was down 2 lbs! I think the support of this site has helped me. Thanks!
-
Well, I weighed in this morning at 189.5.......which is better than the 201 I weighed before Christmas. I have about 40 lbs. to lose....give or take. Like I said in a previous thread, I'm waiting for my kit to arrive, though I have done WW before and am trying to use some of the same principals.

I remember the wait. It seemed like it was taking forever for it to get to me but actually only took a few days. Hope it gets there soon.

Roxymom - congrats on your terrific loss!
thebooklass and BeachCait - welcome and congrats on getting started.
I had a pretty good weekend, at least food-wise. John had to back out a conversion (again) at work, so he was at work from Saturday evening until Sunday afternoon. That meant no pancakes or other elaborate breakfast items. We picked up my MIL and went to my mom's for dinner. She didn't feel like going out to eat, so we had brats and a salad, so dinner wasn't too bad. The sneak peek at the scale was good, so I'm going to work hard at keeping it there. I'm going to have to have a low point day today, though. Ana went on an overnight camping trip with her school, so John and I are foot-loose and fancy-free today (he took the day off) and tonight. We may or may not go out for dinner, but we are definitely going to the movie theater to see a first-run, grown-up movie (only our third since Ana's come along) and I plan on having some movie theater popcorn. And I plan on enjoying it immensely. And I'm not going to feel a bit guilty about it.
Talk to you all later.

Good for you Carla! Going to the movies and having a "treat" every once in a while is ok. We very seldom get to the movies and I always want some movie theater popcorn! I do find that I don't eat as much as I use to though. That's a good thing!

Hi gals,
Not a bad weekend and not a great one either OP wise. Mother's Day was great, my boys and DH waited on me hand and foot. I even extended my workout an extra 40 min. just because I could!
Welcome thebooklass, Roxymom and Beachcait!
Carla, sometimes you tire me out! I wish I had half the energy you had.
I'm hitting the plan really hard this week, as I stated last week's post, my husband is out of state this week, have one graduating HS this Sunday and am off work Fri. to get supplies for the party. Hoping to keep so busy cooking, etc. that I won't have time to let the running around stress me and then fall off plan. I'm going to add a few healthy extras to go with the temptations he wants to have there. Wish me luck.
Hope all has a very good week

Hi all,
Roxymom - We seldom go to the movies also, so it's always a treat to have the popcorn.
Darlene - Trust me, I have no energy. I don't get done nearly what I need to. You, however, sound like you're facing a very busy week. Congrats on getting one through high school and good luck with the party.
Chocolatecatz - Congrats on a terrific loss!.
We did indeed go to the movies last night and I did indeed have popcorn (no butter), which also served as my dinner. It was wonderful. I just picked up Ana at school, so now I have to deal with her dirty clothes, etc. Have a great evening.

Roxymom - congrats on that great loss!
thebooklass and BeachCait - welcome and congrats on getting started.
Carla – I’m glad you had a reasonable Mother’s Day (food-wise). Sorry about John’s work – geesh, I remember those days (not fondly!) I’m glad you got to the movies and had the popcorn – yeah for no butter. Hey, you *have* to have a treat sometime! Wow, isn’t Ana a big girl to go on an overnight camping trip and how great that you and John were able to have a “date night”! No need for guilt – you deserve a treat once in a while and it seems that you handled it very well.
Darlene – What a great Mother’s Day present to yourself to extend your workout! Good luck with your very busy week. That’s a great idea to add some healthy extras – sounds like you have a great plan!
Chocolatecatz – congratulations on that super loss!
Karen – how are ya’ girlfriend? I hope the work stress isn’t getting to you too badly.
Tony and I had a nice weekend in AC. I lost a little and he won a little. I was able to relax, did a workout on Sunday and did OK. I tried my best to stay on core, and while I didn’t count the weekly points I certainly ate and drank, all in all, I did fine. Tony and I had Chinese last night but I had hot and sour soup which is only 2 points, chicken with black bean sauce (which is core) and I made brown rice instead of eating the white (also core). Of course, my rings were tight this morning but the sneak peek this morning wasn’t more than when we went away (although it was definitely up from the last weigh in). My goal for the week is to stay OP and try to minimize the gain I will surely see this coming Saturday morning (and I *have* to get there to weigh in).
The nice thing is that I am off from grad school this week so even though work is crazy this week (the poor kids have the state math test this week and the state science test next week) I can come home and relax. I was in a minor fender bender this morning (I’m fine, I was just shaken up) and I felt really tense all day so I came home and did 40 minutes of a tougher-than-usual workout. I feel a lot better and am planning on having nothing to snack on but fruit and ff chocolate pudding.
Have a great one!

Judy - I'm sorry to hear about the fender bender, but I'm glad you're ok. I'm glad to hear you had a good time in AC. How nice that you have a break from grad school during the weeks that school is crazy. Yes, going to the movies was definitely a nice treat, as was the popcorn. No butter on the popcorn has been par for the course for me for years and years - probably 25 or so. And now I actually prefer it without butter. One taste changed for the better.
My weigh in was disappointing - up .06. I had great sneak peeks so I really wasn't expecting the gain. I did have a ff hot dog for dinner the night before with a bit of sauerkraut on it, so perhaps it was water rentention. At any rate, I've had a good couple of days on program and I'm working really hard for a nice loss next week. I have a couple of challenges coming out - lunch out tomorrow and dinner out Sunday night, but I'm confident I can handle them. And now off to dinner - the spinach ravioli from Costo - low point and delicious.
Have a great evening.

Carla, I bet it was water retention. I do that a lot now. Just drink a lot of water, and it will, um, works its way out.
-
Carla – sorry about the gain but it’s very small and I’m sure the hotdogs & sauerkraut were the cause. I agree with you on the popcorn without butter. I don’t remember the last time I had butter on my popcorn – and I almost don’t remember the last time Tony and I got to a movie theatre!
Well, I’m debating with myself whether or not I’m going to go to my meeting tomorrow. I know I should go and just face the music. As of this morning, the sneak peek showed up about 3 pounds, basically wiping out all I’ve lost over the years – really back to the beginning. It was a very so-so week made harder when Tony brought home a big bag of M&M’s ‘cause he saw some b.s. thing on AOL about M&M’s being good for your diet (the idea being that they were fairly low calorie and could satisfy an urge). If I do go, I’m going to ask them to start a new book – since I’ll really be starting over. On the other hand, tomorrow will be a bit nuts. I have to clean up the house a bit before my parents and sister come over around noon. We “girls” are going shopping, then my sister is leaving to go car shopping and we’re having a bar-b-que for my parents (really a belated birthday and Mother’s Day for my mom). Most of what we’re having is OK – we did get rib eye steaks at Costco but I made a fairly low point (and basically core) bean salad and the lf potato salad. Dessert will be fruit, if I can help it (Tony always wants to buy something to “have with coffee”!) I hope to squeeze in some exercise to help with the weekly points I’ll be eating. I’m fairly discouraged about my weight but determined to keep trying. At least the toughest semester is over (and I did well and passed the NY state test I took in April) and even though grad school starts again next week, I don’t think it will be nearly as stressful.
I’m going to try to get on tonight – the evenings have been my downfall. Have a great one!

Hi all,
thebooklass - Yeah, the older I get, the more I seem to retain water if I so much as look as salt. But I do what you say - I guzzle the water and it leaves my body.
Judy - Girl, it seems like you and I have been struggling together for forever. I wish we could both wrap our minds around this and keep them wrapped for once and for all. We're both smart women, we know what we need to do, we can be highly motivated in other areas of our life (look at you changing jobs and going back to school) and goodness knows, we both want this weight off. I don't know why we can't just get on track and stay on track. Go to your meeting on Saturday. As painful as it may be and in spite of all you have to do at home, just go. Start over with a new book - it's a good idea - but go. Not going isn't going to do you any good, going will do you a world of good. Go, weigh-in, own the number and vow to never see it again. I'm guessing that with a quick tidying up, your house will be fine for company, so just go. And I'll make a deal with you: you go to your meeting, I'll get my butt out of bed and either go for a walk or get on the stationary bike - depending upon the weather. We'll both just do what we have to do. And that's what we'll both do every day, one day at a time. As for the M&Ms - yeah, that might be a good theory if I could stick to a point or two's worth. Bring a big bag in the house and it will be gone before I even know what hit me. One more idea: do you think that you and I could pick one eating related habit a month to work on and conquer and then move on to another one. I'm thinking not so much journaling, getting in the water, etc., but things like, for me, eating more slowly, not eating when I'm not hungry, not eating after X pm. Stuff like that. What do you think? Are you game? Anybody else is more than welcome to join in on the healthy habit building.
-
Ah Carla - you are so right. We are smart, motivated women who go out and do what needs to get done in all other areas of our lives. I didn't get a chance to get on after you posted Friday and ended up staying up really late on Friday night (watching the dvd of season 6 of Sex in the City that I had rented) and slept in Saturday morning - SO, I didn't go to my meeting although I should have. No way to fix that now but I did make an effort yesterday to stay on track and even though everything I ate was not core, I did fairly well.
In an effort to own the number though, I am posting a 2.8 gain (what I see on the scale this morning, adding 1 pound for the difference in my scale and the WW scale). That means I am back over 160 - a number I never thought I would see on the scale again. Maybe that's the kick in the rear I need though. I PROMISE I will go next Saturday, and may or may not ask for a new book. By that point, I hope to be back in the 150's. I hope Carla, that you did better than I did, and got your butt out of bed and walked.
Carla, I LOVE your idea of working on one eating related habit a month, aside from the water, journaling, etc. What a great idea and how great that we can do it together (and of course with everyone else who wants to join in). I'm thinking of my two big ones right now: 1) stopping eating when I'm full and the related NOT snacking when I'm NOT hungry and 2) NOT eating at least 2 hours before bedtime. Both are very hard and are related. I think I want to start with one I really think I can be successful with - one that I've done before and that is, to stop eating at a meal when I am full, not when all the food is gone. When Core first came out, I really worked on that (since it's a big part of being successful with Core) was did it successfully. If I can do that for the rest of this month, I'll "graduate" to not eating when I'm not hungry for June. Does that sound reasonable or do I sound like I'm wussing out?
I did manage to do a yoga workout yesterday but it was a pretty gentle one. For whatever reason, my back (both lower and near the shoulder blade) has been really bothering me for the last few days. I had a great time shopping yesterday with my mom and sister but by the time we got back, my back was screaming. I'm going to do a little "back care" yoga today before it's off to the city and the ballet. I hope my back allows me to sit through the whole thing - if not, I'll leave a bit early. Grad school starts again tomorrow evening, and the teacher in whose class I work will not be back this week, so it's bound to be a crazy week - I don't want to start it with my back all in knots.
Phew, what a long post. I hope everyone's Sunday is a pleasant one.
