New to WW

Hi everyone! I have posted on the introductions forum in the general part of the forum, but figured I'd post here too.

I just started WW at home with my mom on Monday. It's going.. okay. We are not attending meetings or doing anything officially associated with weight watchers, so I hope you wonderful people will be my 'meetings'. I have a few family members who successfully lost many pounds with weight watchers in the past so I figure I can too.

I am 22, and I weigh 188 pounds, not my heaviest, but way more than I'd like. I've always struggled with my weight, and have always been overweight. I am a bored eater, and that really gets the best of me. I'm feeling hungry right now, although I just ate an hour ago, so I'm posting instead of eating.

I started Monday with a weight of 188.6. Tuesday I weighed 189.8. Wednesday was 187.4. And today I was at 188. How do each of you weigh.. daily, or weekly. From what I've read people who weigh daily start to drive themselves crazy.. I can believe this.

Any tips/tricks you'd be willing to offer would be great. I try to plan my meals and stick to what I've allowed myself. 3:00 is my 'I wanna eat everything in the house' time and that's where I struggle.

I write everything down in a food journal, as well as log everything in my iphone app as I eat it since I almost always have my phone near by. I went on a low cal diet summer 2008 and lost around 10-15 pounds in 2 1/2 months.. I eventually gained it all back. I wrote everything down and only then did I see how much I was really eating a day and how many calories it contained. Talk about a slap in the face. Our idea of a serving size is very different from an actual serving size and I don't think most people realize that. That is another of my issues.. I really like food.

Anyway, I'm excited to be here and I fully plan to stick this out. I have enough sheets in my food journal to finish out this year and I fully intend to use every single one of them. :)

Welcome to the forum Kasey! It sounds like you have made a commitment and stick to it! Remember that 'diet' is a bad four letter word think of this a journey to a healthier you and a learn process to eat better for life. I can't say enough about journaling your food, watching your portion size and planing your meals and snacks....btw plan that afternoon snack and those mid day hungries go away...sometimes I have to have two afternoon snacks but it keeps me from going crazy before dinner.

I don't go to meeting either and have everyone here very positive..we encourge everyone and sometimes give them a good kick when they ask LOL

As for weighing every day it will make you nuts! pick a day and time and stick to it. your weight fluctuates all the time and watching the scale go up and down on a daily basis can make you crazy....for example my day is wednesday...I had to peek on saturday and I was excited I was down 1.5 pounds then I peeked again on tuesday and was down another .5 so on wednesday I was pumped up...then poof wednesday morning my weight was the same as the week before...go figure? so I learned my lesson one day week and that is it.

Post often and if you want to post your losses each week on the weigh in thread please do

 Hi Kasey. Welcome. I'm glad you found this forum. It's a great place for support. Sounds like you are focused on your goal. That's awesome!

I have been doing ww at home for 7 weeks now. I have found it pretty easy to follow. Portion size has been a real eye opener for me too. I realized that I was sometimes eating 2 or 3 portions of something without realizing it! :o

I concur with all that Nancy said. :)

Plan ahead.....journal EVERYTHING......exercise when you can and come here for support!

Oh - and yes, just weigh once a week. I started out weighing every day and it made me crazy! Each person has their own weigh in day and their reasoning for the day they chose. For me, I weigh myself each Monday morning. I have found that it keeps me on track over the weekend, which is my most difficult time. Plus, during the week it keeps me motivated to save up my points for the weekend, thus keeping me on track through the week.

Anyway.....good luck with your journey. We are all here to support you along the way!

Thank you both for the warm welcome!

Nancy- I try and not say 'diet'. It comes across as a dirty word, and you are right, this is a lifestyle change.

I think I have come up with a plan that works for me, but I would love comments/suggestions. I don't work at the moment so it's just going to class, so I get up around 830-9ish. Instead of eatting breakfast when I wake up I try to wait till around 10. I have lunch around 2, and dinner around 7-8. This has helped me with the all day snacking. I still try and snack in between since I am not eating anything heavy. My classes start next week and I will be going from 11-1220 (lunch) then again from 6-1045 (dinner). I am hoping my little routine will at least hold me over for my morning class. If I eat at 10 then head to class I won't be starving when I get out at 1220 and want to stop and get something. Is it okay to change my eating times to work with my schedule/hunger?

Also, do I need to eat all my daily points? I had 6 leftover yesterday. I ate plenty and really wasn't hungry to eat the rest, but wasn't sure if I should anyway.

I have decided to do my offical weigh in on Thursday morning just b/c from Monday-Sunday Thursday is smack dab in the middle. I still find myself weighing every morning but I'm calling that my "unofficial weight" and the only one that I can get excited/upset about is the one on Thursday.

Ragsy- This is my first weekend on the plan and I will be spending it at my little cousins baseball tournament surrounded by all that yummy ball park food! I plan to bring water and my own snacks with me, but if one of my munchkins happens to come sit on my lap with food I don't know if I will be able to resist.

On another note my dad came home last night with a Hardee's thickburger and fries. He cut the burger in half and offered it to me, even though I had ten points left for dinner I declined. I did eat ONE fry. Just one.. that took a lot of self control, but I did it!!!! :)

Anyway, thank you both for the welcome. I look forward to my weightloss journey and making new friends.

Kasey
