Low Point Pasta?
Does anyone know of any low-point pasta brands? The one I use now is I think 4pts for 2oz of cooked pasta, and I'd like to find something that is lower in points!
|
Ok that would be 4 points for 2 ounces dry not cooked on the pasta. Which is about 1 cup (maybe a bit more depending on the shape and how much water is absorbed).
I use Barilla Plus which is a high fiber and most of my pasta (2 ounces dry) cooks up to about 1 1/4- 1 1/2 cups for 3 points. Whole wheat (not just wheat but whole grain wheat) pasta is usually about 3 points (some are 4 though) for 1 cup cooked or 2 oz dry. |
yeah whole wheat is sometimes lower. haven you tried dreamfields low carb pasta or dececco or divinci pasta?

a friend just told me about tofu noodles. She gets them at Whole foods in Arizona. She said they have fetuccini (sp?) and one other shape noodle. They are refrigerated. She says to not smell it when you open the package and just microwave for a few seconds. She can't tell the difference between that and pasta. I think it is 1pt per serving. Will let you know if I can get over to buy some.

Oh and another good (well according to some) substitute for spaghetti noodles is spaghetti squash

buffalosister1, you're talking about shirataki noodles. you'll find them in the tofu section of whole foods, and they need to be kept refridgerated. they're actually 0 points for a whole bag, but they're made of tofu and yam flour. they don't really taste like pasta, but they're not bad. the thing i didn't like was the texture and the aftertaste. but give them a shot! plenty of people seem to like them just fine.

Wow! Thanks everyone! I'll have to write all of these down and take them with me for my next visit to the food store!

:^: You are correct in deedy Rahkstar. I bought them and tried them. NO, they are not like regular pasta. They did have a slight resemblance to ramen. But, only if you overcooked the heck out of it until it was squishy. I did not like the texture at all!!! My friend wants the other bag I bought. She is welcome to it. Hope to not discourage anyone from trying them. I just have too much of a texture issue. In fact, my husband enjoyed them just fine :?:
