Those 35 points are not extra points they are part of the program. They are optional if the person to use if they choose but most people find they lose better if they eat them than if they don't.
Basically you get a minimum points a day to eat. This keeps the metabolism moving. You can earn more points like was stated for activity depending on your current weight*time done*intensity. And you are allowed to utilize the 35 WPA/FPs as you see fit.
Can you afford to join online (much cheaper than meetings?) or afford to order the at home program. These are also 2 other options rather than meetings. I believe that online is about $15 a month and the at home program is $100 (payable in 3 installments).
