Hi there,
A couple of questions about veggies. First, do spaghetti sauces and tomato sauces count as vegetable servings? Second, I remember hearing that 1/2 cup of cooked vegetables counts as a serving. Is that correct? The books all indicate a full cup as a serving. Any help you can give is appreciated. Thanks! ------------------ Kelly |
1/2 cup veggies is a WW serving. For green leafy veggies, such as spinach and lettuce, 1 cup is a serving. There is more info on this on page 12 in your week 1 booklet.
For sauce, I would guess that 1/2 cup would count as a veggie serving. There isn't enough sauce on a pizza slice to count as anything. Be careful, though, as many sauces have oil in them. |
Not only do many spag. sauces have oil in them, some brands have lots of sugars. You really have to watch the labels. The Contadina brand has a garden vegetable that the old food companion book had as being 0 points and Healthy Choice makes one I can find sometimes which only lists veggies in its ingredients list (seems to me its name has the word garlic in it, but I can't remember what it is for sure). Most are 1 point or more, some brands as high as 4 points per 1/4 cup, so read those labels!
