Jowl meat in green beans???
I cooked some fresh green beans from my neighbors garden today. I added a chunk of smoked jowl to the pot. Does the jowl add points to the beans if it ISNT eaten?? Thanks for the imput!!

It probably adds some flavor as well as some oils. I'd probably add 1 or 2 points to the whole pot and if I ate more than 1 serving I'd add a point to be safe.

Thanks Kelly, I thought it wouldnt be too bad since we didnt actually eat the jowl.

What's a jowl?

It's the pig's cheek - mostly fat with a little streaky lean. Much better way to season green beans - cook in broth. No points.

Interesting.
My mom usually just steams them and adds some herbs or ms. dash for a special touch. I like my veggies crispy. I like using lemon & rosemary or basil. Dill is really good too, especially with summer squashes. For a similar style dish, what about making mini meatballs with lean sausage meat or that fake sausage? You could also cook it with some turkey bacon. |
