  • Im looking for the angel food cake recipe that has a can of light cherry pie filling in it?? Ring a bell to anyone?
  • My leader was just telling us about this recipe and according to my notes (I have not made it yet), you mix one can of light cherry pie filling into the dry angel food cake mix. Do not add any more liquid. Bake in a 9 x 13 pan according to the instructions on the box. Figure points for the pie filling and cake mix and divide by as many pieces as you choose to cut the cake into.

If you make it, please let me know how it turns out!

  • I'll pull it up for you in the W/W Desserts.
  • Thanks for the recipe Meg. I just made it and it was great. A dab of cool whip and it was a hit!! Very festive looking also!! It only took 25 minutes to cook though unlike the box read so watch closely when you bake it!
  • You can also make it using crushed pineapple in a sheet pan and it is also quite good.
  • As an added tip, the easiest way to make the lite cherry pie filling/angel food cake is to simply mix the filling and cake mix with a spoon! (You don't have to drag out the mixer) When you do this, the cherries stay in bigger chunks and I like the flavor better. I also love to use my angelfood pan for a pretty dessert.
I've brought this to work for the WW's here and people really like it.
  • Another easy variation is to add a can of pumpkin puree to the angel food cake mix, then bake according to package directions. I usually add a tsp of pumpkin pie spice. For 12 servings, only 2 pts per serving!!

  • Thanks for the pumpkin idea. I love pumpkin! This weekend I made a custard type combo with a can of pumpkin, small box of sugar free vanilla pudding, and spices. I prefer it warm but my friend liked it cold. Got the idea off this message board! MMmmm.
  • I also tried it with a can of sliced peaches in lite syrup. I merely drained the syrup into the dry cake mix and then cut up the peaches into smaller pieces. It was great and I have tried it with the pineapple and the lite cherry pie filling. I also heard that if you take it and make 36 cupcakes out of it, they are only 1 pt a piece.
  • OOOH, Yummy,

I have tried the pineapple ones but have to try the cherry and peach ones.

    Thanks for the ideas

  • When you add the pumpkin, cherries, or peaches do you still add the liquid (water) to the mix, too? Add everything to the mix as the instructions state and THEN add the cherries, etc? Silly question I'm sure.... thanks in advance!

  • When I made it with the pineapple, you just put in the box of cake mix and the can of pineapple with the juice, nothing else. I know it sounds wierd but it is so good. Actually I have made it before and then topped it with sliced bananas, strawberry pie filling, fat free coolwhip and drizzled hersheys chocolate syrup on top with a few marachino cherries for a delicious banana split cake, I don't know the points but maybe someone could figure it out.

  • I've never heard of this recipe but I would love to try it! Would someone please post it or e-mail it to me so I can be sure to have the correct information? Thanks!

  • Ok take 1 box of one-step angel food cake mix and 1 20 oz. can of crushed pineapple( do not drain). Mix together and put in 13x9 pan. Bake at 350 for about 35-40 minutes. Cut into 12 pieces at about 3 points per serving. Now you can make the same cake using a can of lite cherry pie filling and the cake mix following the same directions. Also I tried it with sliced peaches in lite syrup that I chopped up. I also heard that if you make it into 36 cupcakes they are 1 pt. a piece.
  • In my last post I said if you make 36 cupcakes they are 1 pt a piece well.... I read somewhere else that if they are 1 pt a piece if you make 24. So sorry I was only passing on info that I had heard.
