If the calculation works out to be an extra point by doubling the serving on the package...I always go with the higher point value. Eg. 1/2 c baked beans=2 points...1c baked beans=5 points..so I would track 5pts for 1 c baked beans. I figure I would rather overestimate than underestimate when it comes to 1 point.

What about 0 points items?

What do you guys do with 0 points items, like vegetables or taco sauce? I understand the previous statement of "only consuming one serving at a time," but if I have a salad for lunch, I'm probably gonna eat more than 1 cup of lettuce, etc. So, should I just find out the nutritional information for lettuce and double the fat/fiber/calories values?

Zero point vegetables, such as lettuce, are always 0 points. Other 0 point foods are limited to a total of 3 day before you must start counting them.

I know where everyone's coming from with the whole points thing. Personally if I'm doing a recipe I use eTools recipe builder which takes total cals, fat, fiber and then calculates it out. Then I know I am getting my perfect points total. When you think about it logically it's all about the ratio of cals to fat to fiber. If a food is low in calories and fat but high in fiber it has a lower points value than something that is high in cals and fat and low in fiber. Fiber is pretty awesome because even some higher fat/cal stuff can be salvaged a bit by it. If you use your manual points finder it shows you perhaps the easiest how our points are determined and it's not that difficult to figure out. Sometimes 10 calories, 1 gram of fat or fiber can add or subtract a point from our food. Ultimately this is YOUR program and you have to make it work for you. Play with it and find out what works for you and then don't stop playing with it. This is a life long adventure and we are many of us only in the wee stages of our journey!

When I make a recipe, I do the points of the individual ingredients. I feel like I am being cheated if I am having a super high-fiber lunch and I only get to count 4 grams. I count the fiber from the whole wheat bread, the high-fiber veggie burger - everything. If I am making pancakes, I count the points per 1/4 c of whole wheat flour and multiply it by 8 to get my 2 cups, I don't calculate for 2 cups - especially since I'm not eating the whole batch!

I am just honest about it. I could put shredded cardboard on my pizza to add fiber with no calories and bring down the total points, but that's obviously a devious maneuver.

Jane - I did not know about this zero vegetable rule and the other 0 point items. I know three egg whites is a point but two is zero, but other than that, I had no idea. Thanks for the tips!
