Grace, Grace 06-05-2001 09:15 AM

Morning Girls, I have a busy day ahead of me so I thought that I would post early.
Kieri sorry recipes are not my forte! If anyone at work knows of one I will let you know. I think it is funny that we turned 25 in the same wk. I keep forgetting and telling people I am 24. I must admit though it does make me feel kind of mature "25"

WW Update
Um after my TAco Bell Fiasco at lunch I went home and had Chicken and Rice. I was a good girl:angel: I was dying to make Peanut Butter Cookies but I resisted. I know I know nothing is off limits on WW but I am pretty sure a 1/2 dz. cookies would have been :) I have trouble limiting myself:o Anyways I plan to do the salad thing for lunch and I grabbed a cafe mocha and 3 Timbits from Tim HOrton's for Breakfast. They are only 1 pt. a piece if you get a sweet craving.

Well I will be back and check in!!!!!!!!!!

TxAggie 06-05-2001 09:17 AM

I'm here!

Hi ya'll! I got to work early today becasue I went to bed super early last night. I'll make this quick becasue I have to go to a meeting soon.

KO ~ I love to stir fry...I'll try to remember a simple one...
This serves two and its a ton of food.

Chicken and Zucchini
you need:
1/2 lb boneless skinless ck breast (sliced)
3 zucchinis (halved and then sliced)
1 clove of garlic
2 tsp. of cornstarch
2 T soy sauce
2 T sherry
2 green onions sliced into 1/2 inch pieces
salt/pepper
cooking spray

1. mix together 1 t cornstarch, 1 T Soy, 1 T Sherry, salt, pepper, and chicken. let this sit for about 30 minutes.

Mix the rest of the cornstarch, soy sauce and sherry in another little bowl and set aside.

2. Once the CK is done marinating, heat up your wok with a little oil or cooking spray.

3. Add the zucchini and salt and pepper to the hot wok and cook for about 2-3 minutes. Remove veggies from the wok to another plate.

4. Add a little more oil and cooking spray. Smash clove of garlic and put in the hot wok with the green onion.

5. drain the ck from marinade and add to the wok. Cook until it isn't pink.

6. Remove the garlic, add the veggies back, and pour in reserved sauce mixture. Cook until thickened and serve.

You probably could sub. another veggie, but this was really good. You also can play with the sauce mix until you get the taste you like.

HTH!

Well, I'm off to the meeting!
Kay

TonyaLyn 06-05-2001 09:34 AM

Good morning!

Kierie ~ I make stir fry all the time (healthy and my family loves it!) I think the key to good stir fry is cooking your veggies and meat (chicken or whatever) in soy sauce and oyster sauce, that gives it the authentic chinese flavor. Both of course are loaded with sodium, but both products offer low-sodium options. I use frozen stir fry veggies (comes all together in a package) and usually use chicken for the meat. I make my family rice with it, but I usually just eat the stir fry itself, it is low-cal/low-fat and tastes great!! :)

Kirsty ~ I am here to play! No ambition at work again today!! :) So, I am here for the long run today!

Hello to everyone else!

It is raining again here today, and looks like it will stay that way for a couple days. Like Jen said yesterday, it is normally in the 80 - 90's in June in Wisconsin, and it is still in the 50's here, unbelievable weather. But, an old farmer told me that until the river stage goes down, we won't have warm weather....I gotta believe him, he's a farmer....:^:

My eating could be better, but not awful, I am staying within my points, but just barely. I really think my problem is this depressing weather and not being able to exercise outside. But, I am going to take a day at a time and today's goals are:

1. Stay in the middle of my points.
2. Drink my water!!

That's it for today, I will start to incorporate exercise in there shortly.

Well, talk more later!!

TxAggie 06-05-2001 09:43 AM

Kierie~ The cornstarch is a thickener. It makes the texture richer and more fatty!

Tonya ~ I LOVE stir fry as well. The above recipe only has about 5 points and its lots of food. I agree, the soy and hoisin sauce are key. The sherry also gives an authentic flavor. Have you tried using bean paste? We use it for meat dishes (pork loin or sirloin) and it tasets really good. All you do is mix it with soy sauce, sherry, and sometimes a little sugar. You can find it a t oriental markets.

Sorry to hear that the weather is so bad. Its been hot down here (90's). Today looks like rain, but it'll be good since the summer is usually pretty dry. Have you tried doing videos for exercise. I know when the weather is bad here, I'll do a video to get some energy. They are sometimes boring, but it does the trick.

I'll be back later!

Janet R 06-05-2001 09:49 AM

Good morning ya'll.

Well, I have to say I'm not doing too good. It has to do with the fact that I'm totally swamped at work, and I go into "busy season mode" which generally means I eat everything in sight. I eat because I'm stressed, and I eat because I feel sorry for myself! It's bad, and I'm writing now to try to gain control again.

I must not compensate with food. I must not compensate with food!

*sigh*

Kierie, the cornstarch thickens the sauce. If you don't have any, you could also use flour. Glad your jeans fit! :)

Kay, the stir fry recipe sounds yummy!

Steph, you poor thing! I'm glad the stones have passed and you are doing better. Congratulations to your cousin, that's quite an accomplishment.

Gotta run. Too much to do, too little time. :(

Jen-L 06-05-2001 09:57 AM

HI ALL...

TONYA... you are 100% right. I just know the weather is causing a lot of problems for me. We have barely had any nice days at all this spring. And I feel like I have a cold all the time... and so does Emma.... poor girl! I walked Sadie this morning and it was in the 40's... I had on sweats and a winter like jacket. How pathetic is that for June???

Kierie... I make stir fry all the time. Along with what others say, I also use ginger root cut up. Don't need much, because it is quite flavorful. And don't bit into it.. blahhh.. If you use larger pieces, you can pull them out, otherwise I chop/smush mine fine and don't worry about it.

Kay... post your recipe on the recipe thread!! YUM YUM! How are you doing???

HELLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOO to everyone else. As you know, I will be back later!!

TonyaLyn 06-05-2001 10:22 AM

Ok, big drum roll here....before and after pics of my hair!!!!

Here is before the cut....(and me at 160 pounds too!)

TonyaLyn 06-05-2001 10:23 AM

Here is my new cut (sorry so messy, didn't spend much time this morning styling it!)

:)

Trish O 06-05-2001 10:33 AM

Hello Women

Well, yesterday I was eating out of control. I have been craving the strangest things...spagettios with corn???? and tomato sandwiches. Anyway, I feel so much better in the afternoons and can pack away so much food. Especially since I am home and BOARD! I must be more careful.

I had some bad news about a great friend yesterday. She found out she as pregnant the same week I did and was a week behind me in due date. Well, she had a miscaridge yesterday. Very said for her...also freaked me out a bit. I know there is no corilation...but I get freaked out easily. I have not called her yet. I think I will this weekend. But so far I think I am doing ok.

Jen: Thank you for the PM and I will e-mail back later today. I can not sit at the computer for long.

Tonya: that is great for staying on points. It is the start..see I know you can do it.

Janet: our office (not that I have been there in 2 weeks) is as busy at tax season it seems. Crazy. It is hard not to overindulge when stressed. I think we both need to find other outlets for our stress. I am not sure what yet. If you have any ideas, let me know.

Kay" have a good meeting. Did you have a dr appt today? how did that go?

Kierie: Have a happy birthday and a fun party.

Steph: sorry to hear about the stone. Glad you are doing better.

Becky: happy birthday to you too. Good job on resisting a triger food. I tend to eat too many cookies as well.

Kirsty: funny poll. I always wondered.

Ok, must go but will try to get back this afternoon.

Trish

Jen-L 06-05-2001 11:36 AM

Tonya... big difference with the hair. I like it. Hubby is afraid to let me cut mine that short. I am at the stage where I am growing mine out again. I never keep the same "do" for long... usually about a year, then it goes longer or shorter. And day to day I change how I style it. I guess I am weird!!!

Trish... keep your hands busy. Got any crafts to do?? When I was on maternity I watched Jerry Springer all the time. Hubby had to ban it from the TV when I started telling him about it every day! How many weeks are you now???

Back to work.... lots of crabby people here today. YUCK!

Belle2000 06-05-2001 11:45 AM

Jen - I liked your hair in that pic....it was agood length for you.

Jen-L 06-05-2001 12:09 PM

My hair normally a little more curled. Sometimes in a flip. That pic really didn't do it justice, it was a Sunday afternoon blah look! But I am glad you liked it! Even bad hair days can look good!

LoriD 06-05-2001 12:52 PM

Hi everyone!

Hello-It's my first time posting with these new smileys...:D I'm trying out a few!!:s: Anyhow-I've been lurking ....I love sr\tir fry-got a new wok a few weeks ago...the killer is the sodium though-need to watch that!!! I made a shrimp and asparagus stir fry with oyster sauce-yummy.... and very easy...

Tonya-Your new haircut looks great! I love it!!
KO-Congrats on the pants-I went shopping over the weekend and was wearing 1-2 sizes smaller-very cool!!! Still haven't braved the bathing suits yet....

I had a horrible weekend but am back OP-I WI Friday morning and am determined to post a loss!!!! I've decided that I was in an eating rut...so I'm trying to cook some new recipes this week-we'll see how it goes...

bye for now! hi to all_lori:^:

kimobi 06-05-2001 01:11 PM

slow computer today

I had a heck of a time getting on the site. Our Internet service hasn't been working very well lately.

Anyway, Tonya, I love your hair! I got mine cut short 2 years ago but I'm letting it grow out again. I still have weird straggly layers that drive me crazy, especially in this humid weather we're having.

Oops! I was going to post more but I have to go pick up my lunch. Eating at my desk today ... I didn't come in until 11.

Lollybird 06-05-2001 01:18 PM

Hi Guys! look how late I'm posting ... have been busybusybusy and it just never stops. So now I have a few minutes, what do I do? Straight on here! Let me join the stirfry club, it is my ABSOLUTE favourite, but Kierie, here's the key - you have to get the wok so hot it's smoking before you put the meat in, that way the meat browns really quickly and seals in the juices and doesn't go rubbery. Then you chuck in the veggies in the order you cook them (so carrots first, mushrooms/beansprouts last) - if you have everything chopped and ready to go before you start, it's easier. Re: flavours, I used to make my own sweet and sour, but THE SUGAR! The SODIUM!

Ok, Blokey's home and it's dinner time - back later!

hugs
Lolly

I'm here...

Hey everyone, of course I'm busy again. I had a closing this morning and afterwards I stopped by Sonic for a Strawberry Limeade and spilled it all over my new dress!! (well it was my mom's and didn't fit her so she gave it to me) It was a size 14!!
Yipee!! But, WI is tonight and I'll probably gain. I drank a lot of wine last night. :s: So, at least I'm expecting it.
Tonya: I love your hair!! So cute!!!!!
I must get out of here and get back to work, so I'll talk to everyone later!

Grace, Grace 06-05-2001 02:52 PM

Shew, You leave for a few hours and it is next to impossible to catch up with the posts. Here goes!
Steph- YIKES kidney stones. I am glad that you passed it. Coincidentally a guy friend of mine had one this wknd. Not that that makes you feel any better. I just thought it was kind of weird.

Kieri- "Twin" Congrats on the Jeans!!!!!!!!

Tonya- I love your hair. You are such a cute trendy mom

Janet I find that when Iam busy at work rice cakes are the way to go. I was very anti-rice cakes b/c they used to taste like cardboard but they are good now esp. Orville Redenbacher Chocolate Peanut Butter popcorn cakes. Anyway Good luck. We all have our moments of weakness:^:

Trish Sorry about your friends loss. That is very difficult. BTW if you are bored. I rented "Pay it Forward" last night and that was a good movie. I must worn you though it is sad. So if your hormones can handle it give that a try:cry:

Belle- Good job on the points thing !!!!!!!!!

Lori- I am with you. I tried on Bathing suits on Sunday! BIG MISTAKE!:o I forget how much flubber clothes can hide.

Stacey- Congrats on the size 14! That is great, not the spilling on the dress part though:eek: I am glad that I am not the only clutz though!

Jen- Aren't guys funny about the whole hair length thing?!? Oh well. I do like yours now though.

Oh btw I didn't exactly stick with the salad plan. I went to Olga's and had snackers a chicken fajita olga. Oh well I guess I wll definitely have to go to aerobics tonight. I rollerbladed last night and that was fun.

Well I will check in later
Becky

kimobi 06-05-2001 03:18 PM

Salads are evil

I do was going to get a salad today. But I got a cheeseburger instead. Yum. It wasn't a fast-food one, so that's a little better, anyway. WW sez 10 points. With the tortilla chips I had to, I'll call lunch 15 points. I was good for dinner last night. I had baked salmon (a recipe with a lite mayo-based sauce), garlic mashed potatoes, corn and a glass of milk.

It's HOT here in Virginia today. Up near 90 and humid, humid, humid! Whenever I go outside my shirt immediately starts to stick to me. And of course, the air quality is horrible. Roanoke's in a valley, anyway, so the air just sits here. You can't even take deep breaths this time of year. Supposed to be a thunderstorm this afternoon, too, and the next couple of days. The weekend's supposed to be nice, in the mid-70s and sunny. B/f and I are going to a wine and jazz festival.

My new bed comes tomorrow. Yay! I have to go out tonight and buy a queen-sized mattress pad and a set of sheets. Everything I have is double-sized. I figure I can live with my double comforter for a while. I'll just get more covers than Brian does. I'm excited! I've never had such a big bed before. Course, I never lived with a guy before, either.

My 2 cents on stir-fry: Yummy! I make up my own all the time. I usually use chicken, carrots, zucchini, mushrooms and broccoli, and some kind of sauce, usually soy or sweet and sour. But I always throw in some garlic and some ginger. Another yummy stir-fry is beef strips with pea pods, mushrooms and red peppers in a soy sauce. Put it lots of black pepper in it, and a dash of red pepper. Cornstarch, of course, for consistency. Yum, yum. Serve with some linguini!

Well, I have some phone calls to make. I'm working on a story that is NON-D-Day related. Some of you American girls may have heard about the big National D-Day Memorial that was built. It's located about a half-hour from here (in Bedford, which lost the most men per capita on D-Day) and the dedication is tomorrow. President Bush is speaking. Needless to say, the paper is all over it. We'll have about 5 reporters there and 5 photographers. It's going to be a madhouse around here. That's why I like my beat. I get to do cool stories and miss boring stuff like dedications and elections!

See ya!

sbirdhr 06-05-2001 03:27 PM

very busy morning

Hi everyone! I just finished cathching up on posts from yesterday afternoon and this morning. I am in Annapolis today and have gotten lots of work done so am taking a break to post. I can't wait to leave in anopther 45 minutes too! :)

I did well on points and exercise yesterday and banked a total of 9. I calculated my points for Friday and Sunday and was over by 12 each day. I didn't try Sat. and it might be too late to remember very well anyway. That was the worst day so I am just moving forward from here. I woulf like to bank at least 7 points per day until WI on Friday though. That will help compensate for Saturday and prevent a large gain. I have to get in control of my weekends!!!

Tonya - Great goals. You will make it. Cute new haircut!

Kierie - happy bday this weekend in case I forget. Enjoy the stirfry. Sounds good. I never make it although I think I might have been motivated to try it now :)

Stacey - sorry about the spill, but congrats on the size. Good luck at WI tonight.

Trish - sorry to hear about your friend but I am sure that you are doing great. Maybe if you don't already have any hobbies, you could pick one up that you could do laying down.

Jen - I love the pic of you and Emma!

Janet - I am a big fan of microwave popcorn for snacks at work. It is a lot of food for 2 points (most bags are only 2 points if they are 94% ff)I gave in and got some yesterday at 4pm

Steph - you are not old at all! I am 27. I met DH at 20 and we married when I was 24. You have plenty of time! :)

Kay - how are you feeling today?

Only 1/2 hour left. I am off to the gym and the dry cleaners tonight after work. Have a great evening. Hi to Kim, Ali, Shaylene, Lori, Lolly, Belle, Kirsty.

Afternoon!

everyone ~ Thank ya'll sooooo much for asking how I am feeling! That is so nice of you guys. I don't think that a am pg anymore. I haven't had the symptoms since Saturday so I think it might have been a mild flu or something. Still haven't gotten AF, but she won't be officially late until Friday. I guess I'll test again then. I HATE not knowing!!!! But if I'm not then we'll start trying harder in about 6 mo or so :) I'll keep ya'll posted. Oh, the dr. said that I need to be late before I can come in...

Trish ~ Hope you are doing well with your little one. I am sorry to hear about your friend. That is so sad. I'm sure you'll be an understanding friend when she needs you.

Well I gotta run again!
Kay

kimobi 06-05-2001 06:41 PM

Ted Koppel is sitting 4 feet from me!

Not that I'm a fan or anything, but he's in our newsroom interviewing our editor about a series we did earlier this year on being gay in our city. The paper took lots of flak, including 500 newspaper subscription cancellations, and Nightline is doing a story on it.

I can't figure out if his hair is real or not. He might have a little help. My desk is right next to where they're doing the interview and I stayed put because I have work to do, and because I wanted to hear what's going on. ;)

This is fun! Maybe they'll get a shot of me and I'll be on national TV. Or maybe not. I think they just want Ted and our editor. Oh, well. I'm not dressed very professionally, after all. I'm wearing khaki calf-length pants and a pink shirt. I look like I'm heading to the beach!

It's all over. I'm babbling anyway.

1busymomma 06-05-2001 09:16 PM

Hi guys!

Just a quick post since everyone is gone for the day anyway.....

Well I bombed the last few days with food  so I am stating my plan of action:

I went to Dotti's site and downloaded a 10 day menu where each day is under 25 pts for the day, and I plan on grocery shopping tonight.

I'm still getting up at the crack of dawn and going out running with my sister so this is not a problem.

Well, gotta run just wanted to get my big no-no off my chest and state my plan of action. Chat with you all tommorow!

Emily
