Talking Fabulous 40's and Fit 50's! #156

Ok, Ok, I'll do it...here's the new thread

Ahh, Saturday! And this after only working a 3 day week. It will take a bit for me to adjust to the daily grind again. I had a very good week in terms of what I ate. I realize now how much I was mistaking boredom with hunger on many days at home. Duh.

Dianne,
How wonderful that you've raised that much in pledges!! All that support will be the wind behind your back the day of the walk, helping you all the way.
Have fun at the shower. It's nice that you kept up contact with the ex's.....shows they value their relationship with you.

Es,
Keeping off your feet is probably the best thing to do. You know you'll resume exercising once this is over with. It must be difficult to not know what's causing the swelling. The water pills really took out a lot!

In spite of the fact that it's sunny and upper 50's today, I'm going to stay home with my foot elevated. It's been wrapped fairly tightly and I can tell it's a bit swollen from being on it more this week. Tuesday is P-day, the pin comes out! and I'll graduate to gym shoes for an unknown length of time. I absolutely cannot wait to walk again, even for short bits; I'm hoping my dr. says ok....even a walk to the corner would be heaven.

HI to Terri, Sandy,Donna, Ruth, Zoe, Linda !

later,
~Jen
p.s.......don't forget to turn your clocks ahead tonight!

Since Es replied to the old thread at the same time I was posting, I'm taking the liberty of pasting her last message here...Es, hope you don't mind!

"Mi Amiga, $745!! How cool is that! This walk means a lot to me. If I wasn't feeling like a balloon I would have participated. You go girl. I have a bridal shower for next Saturday. The wedding is in August. The hottest month of the year which means bad hair day. I HATE AUGUST!!!! I have to go. Pete's already saying we can't afford it. I know we can't but I have to find a way. I ignore him cause he always says that.

I have a nail appt. so I have to get ready.

Be back later.

Love,
Es

Hi to the rest of the gang. "

Talking

Linda, I was born & raised in the Bronx. I've been out here for 25 years. I have family that are still in the Bronx. Let me see I was born in Brook Ave, then moved to Baychester area. When I got married went up to Fordham Rd. Moved to LI in 1980. My parents bought a house out here so I decided it was best for my son. Better schools.

I don't know what's up with this monitor. It's fairly new & it's acting up again. I have maintenance on it. If it keeps blinking I'm taking it back!

My ankles are really swollen. I have them up on a chair right now. I did some shopping & cleaning & now they're really puffy! I'm going to research swollen ankles sometimes it's depressing reading what it could be. I better not. This monitor is getting on my nerves anyway.

Later buds. Let me go watch a movie.

Love you's (Bronx talk)
Es

Linda, I hesitate to introduce myself and all because the last time I did that person never posted again. I'm not from NY but my dh was raised about 20 minutes or so from NY City. He was raised in Bloomfield New Jersey. We have been married for 18 1/2 years and we have a nine year old daughter named Elena. My name is Donna and I have been on maintenance with Weight Watchers Online now after losing 30 pounds. I have found that maintaning is just as hard as the process to get there but Weight Watchers is a lifetime plan and it works for me so that is why I have stuck with it. Can't become a lifetime member though unless I attend meetings which I thought was awful but like I said the plan works and I will do what I have to do to keep it up. If that means still paying a monthly fee for the e-tools I will. LOL I look forward in getting to know you better along with these fine women here.
Es, I wish you could find out what's going on. Have they tested your kidneys? I am very concerned about you. Yes, take back that monitor!! You don't need another aggravation!
Dianne, I hope you have a good break with Alana! I know you will.
Jen, thanks for keeping up with the thread and thinking of copying the last entry by Es for us to read. You are the best thread keeper!
Terri, what's up? I hope you are ok. Haven't heard from you in a few.
Sandy, hello! Big plans for the weekend?
Each day my arm is feeling better but every now and then it really aches. I then am reminded I'm still recouperating. LOL
Linda, I recently had tennis elbow release surgery on my right elbow. In case you were wondering.
to Ruth and the rest
Have a good weekend!

Es - Boy were we ever neighbors! I grew up in Parkchester back when Metropolitan Life owned the complex. Married DH and moved into a bigger apartment with air conditioning!! Been here now almost 20 something years! Parkchester was HOT and the new "owners" Dear Harry and Leona wouldn't go for the $$ necessary to upgrade. Anyway I'm off 161st in Concourse Village which is a wonderful community. PM me if you want more "neighborhood gossip"
I'm really sorry you're having such a time with your ankles. Do the Dr.s have any clue????

Donna - thanks for the intro., and no....I will not stop posting! I had to chuckle when I read your note to me!

Well I need to run...with this time change I'm late for my date with dh in Pathmarks!! Went to church lastnight so my Sunday is freeeeeeee!!!!!!!!

Red face

Hi Girls

Linda, I was on 187th Grand Concourse. Remember Alexander's? I hate saying it but remembering it makes me feel old. My husband is from Brooklyn, East NY. No the Drs. don't know. I've been tested for kidney problem, lupus, thyroid, heart w/stress test & 2 EKG's & other things. The next appt. is this Wed. with the Vascular specialist. My butt hasn't been to church in a while Pete(hubby) has been getting on my case about it. He goes without me. It's just that where I go our worship service is about 45 minutes, which is very moving & beautiful but almost everybody stands. The ones that sit are the old ladies! That would really make me feel great. I have to go for Easter. I have to buy an outfit. I hate shopping but Pete loves it.

Donna, how are you my friend? I've had tennis elbow for 2 yrs. now. I just don't want to go through another surgery. A few years ago I had rotator cuff surgery & it was so painful. Hang in there. Each day gets better. Pete said my ankles look normal this morning. I still see some swelling but not much. I'm taking one day at a time. I don't feel sick. It's just these stupid ankles of mine. We'll see what this other specialist has to say. You know I'll keep you posted.

Other than the water loss I haven't lost anything. I asked WW to put me on hold. They were nice about it. I have to find out what's going on first before I get on the scale.

Well ladies, let me go read the Sunday paper.

Hasta luego amigas

Es

Hi everyone,
It feels so late already now that I changed the clocks back. Today will be a short day.

Linda,
I had unknowingly fractured a metatarsal bone in my foot; it mended incorrectly and affected a toe. I had surgery on Feb. 20, which resulted in a pin permanently in my foot and another temporary one sticking out of my toe. It's been 6 weeks of wearing a robo-cop type boot, but I'm in the final home stretch. The pin will be pulled out (I don't even want to think about that ) on Tuesday, if further xrays show everything's ok. Gee....aren't you glad you asked?

Es,
So you kept off your feet and the swelling is down? It sounds as though you need a few days of sitting with your feet up. You've been in my thoughts....I sincerely hope they can find the cause. Not knowing is worse than anything. Keep your chin up.

Donna,
Glad to hear your elbow is getting there. You said it so well about being reminded you're recuperating. I don't think I've ever asked..do you play tennis? Or was it a specific motion that caused it?

Terri,
How's the family? I'll bet the kids are happy that the school year is winding down. April already! And Britts is graduating! whoo eee Do you have plans to travel again this summer? Is Colorado in the works?

Dianne,
I would imagine you're out walking, getting ready for the AIDS walk. What a great job of fundraising you've done I'm proud of you.

Sandy,
Hope things are improving. You've all been in my prayers.

I think it's great that Es, Dianne, and now Linda are all so close, geographically. Sounds like a fun lunch date!

Am attaching a pic. of my "ball and chain" boot, just for laughs.

Jen! I just saw that picture of your foot! You poor thing!

Donna - stupid question but do you play tennis? If not how does one get tennis elbow?

Es - Mi amiga!! Of course I remember Alexanders!! Then it was Caldors, then it was empty for a very long time which really hurt the neighborhood. Just recently a bunch of merchants took over the whole building and it's fantastic! Stores galore and money coming back into the Fordham area. My MIL still lives on Creston and 183rd St. I'd love for her to get out of there and come either closer to me or in my neighborhood. But she took over the apt. that her parents had and the building is still rent controlled I think and that's good for her. She's retired and on a fixed income. But she's a great lady; I'm lucky.

Well, I've gone grocery shopping, cleaned the kitchen, bathroom, living room and my bedroom. Pulled DS out of his room and off the computer and told him to move his butt and help his poor ole Mother! He's a good kid...more about him another time.

So now it time for me, the paper and a cup of coffee!

Linda!!!! I lived on Creston Avenue behind the Loews Theatre!!! Wow. How is the neighborhood? I remember getting plenty of exercise cause I lived on the 5th floor & there were no elevators! This brings back so many memories. I used to walk to the park I think it was called KingsBridge Park. I do remember looking out the fire escape & thinking I didn't want to raise my son in that neighborhood. He turned out to be a great kid. He's 33 now. A decent young man. I'm so proud of him. This is my second marriage. I had him when I was 17. My first husband was abusive so we divorced then I met Pete out here. Pete pretty much raised him. He was 9 when Pete & I got together. We got married right away. I knew he was a good man & treated my son like his own. He calls Pete his father. He never says my step dad or vice versa. They're tight. Terri by the way, is like the leader of the group. She's always been my mentor.

Terri, you've done so well. You've really worked hard at this. You deserve an applause How's my girl Brittany? Tell her I said hi

Jen, you poor thing. That sure is a BIG shoe. I've seen them before. Points Lady had surgery some years back & she had to wear one. The day is flying. My ankles aren't that bad today but you're right & so is Pete. If I can stay off my feet a couple of days the swelling will go down. They're nothing like they were last week.

Zoe, Ruth, Sandy, Donna

Hugs to all!

PS It would be nice if Dianne, Linda & me can get together one of these days
.

Default Hi

Hi guys:

Yes, Jen you're right - I was out walking - trying to get my mileage up. And I did - I went from 3 miles to 4.2 miles - it took about 1 hr. and 25 mins. I thought I was gonna have to stop cause it started to rain, but then it stopped after a few mins and I was able to continue. I think I have enough time before the AIDS walk to work my way up to 6 miles. I have now passed my $750 goal and raised it to $1,000. Thanks so much for your support and you too Es, mi amiga and Terri! I really appreciate it.

Oh and Jen, I read the part about the pin and guess what happened - yep - my butt cheeks crunched You poor thing, I hope you're able to get it out on Tuesday!

Donna - You are too funny about the last time you introduced yourself, the person never came back I cracked up when I read that Elbow doing better? Hope so.

Linda - I live in NY too - I'm in Queens - a couple of boroughs away from you. It would be so cool if you, me and Es could get together. By the way, Linda, are you latina? I ask because Es and I always refer to each other as "mi amiga" and I noticed you did too. I'm Irish and Puerto Rican - some combo, huh?

Es, mi amiga - How are you feeling? You really need to take a few days and relax and be off your feet- that would help the swelling alot. How are things at the office? Any better? Take care of you!

Well, yesterday I went to a bridal shower and there were not one, but two strippers Alana was hysterical because at one point one of these guys came towards me and I ran like ****, I almost knocked the gifts down and stepped on two people to get away from him I can't stand when they come near me, lol - with their little thongs and their butts sticking out - yuk But we had a good time, anyway.

Terri - Congrats on maintaining during your vacation - great job! Its so cool to be recognized for a job well done too!

Okay, well, time to shower before the Sopranos. I'll talk to you's tomorrow - everyone enjoy the rest of their night!

Hi Sandy, Ruthie, ZoeGirl and Janie!

Hugs,
Dianne

Default Good Morning!

It's is so cold here in NYC today you would never know Spring is here!

Dianne - I work in Queens! College Point to be exact. My boss rented for many years in Forest Hills, and 2 years ago bought a building in a new commerical development. I am not latina. I'm a mut Mom was French and American Indian and Dad was English and German. BUT I am married to a wonderful latino. My husband is Puerto Rican. We've been married, oh gosh let's see, 26 years??? I understand way more than what I speak, but I know many "phrases". Where are you in Queens?

Es - Sadly the neighborhood is not very good. The Lowes, that's the one on the Concourse? If it is, unfortunately it's abandoned. There were rummors awhile back that someone was going to renovate the place and put something there. My MIL lives in a building with an elevator but the thing hardly works! She's on the 3rd floor which isn't too bad except when you have packages!

Terri - Congratulations on that fantastic loss. And for keeping it off! That's the real hard part!! Good for you!

Well I hope everyone has a good day. Hi to Donna, Jen and anyone else I may have missed! Talk to you all later...

Dianne,
Great walking. You will be ready in no time. Congrats on the donations exceeding your goal. Fantastic.
As far as what nationality we all are I am full blooded Italian. Bruce is also a mutt. He has everything in him.

Linda,
Thanks for the congrats. My wish is to visit New York. Bruce said that will be the first place we visit when we plan to go somewhere. If I do I'd love to see if anyone could come into the city and we could meet. That'd be cool.

Es,
What a great tribute to Pete. That is a special father.
David is lucky. But then so is Pete. Brittany is doing great and is getting ready for graduation. Got to send her announcements soon. There are still 2 birthdays between now and graduation. It will be busy!!!!

I hope everyone has a great Monday.
