50 or more, week of August 4

If you have 50 or more pounds to lose, jump right in and join us! You'll be sure to get a warm welcome.

Linda Jean 08-04-2003 03:48 PM

Hi, Thyme! I'd like to welcome you to the "50 or More" group! So glad you want to join us, I believe that you will get lots of encouragement and support from the ladies in the group. I was sorry to read of your physical problems, and that you don't feel very well most of the time. Are you intending to rejoin WW and go back to the meetings? In my case, attending the meetings is the only way I can stay on track (as well as benefitting from coming to this thread). I am a lifetimer over goal by about 12 pounds, have rejoined just recently, and I'm intending to get back down to my goal weight so I can attend the meetings for free again. Please keep posting. Yes, you are right about our beginning a new thread every Monday, and we report on our WI's whenever it is a WI day for each of us. I go to meetings on Wednesdays at noon, so I generally report the results that afternoon. We would like to share info with you, are you keeping a journal? I have found that when I record *everything* that I eat and drink, I do better at staying within my points range. Looking forward to hearing from you again. :)

Jan, I am so impressed with all of the work you are doing at your house. What a feeling of accomplishment it must be for you. Nice that you still have a week and a half to get ready for the slew of new students. Wow, you took a walk at sunrise -- that must be a beautiful part of the day in your area. Keep up the good habits!

JanetMae 08-04-2003 04:55 PM

Welcome Tyme! Glad you joined us; looking forward to getting to know you. I'm sorry to hear about your health problems, and I hope they'll improve soon; seems like losing weight often helps a number of seemingly unrelated health issues. Don't get down on yourself for regaining, now, we have all been down that road at some point. The important thing is that you are taking up the journey again, and that you WILL reach your goals! All of the skills you acquired during the previous weight loss experience will help you now, so that time was not lost. You can do this! And like Linda says, journaling is key. Kudos to you for having the courage and persistence to do this! It's SO worth it.

Hi Linda! Thanks for starting the new thread ... forgot what day it was, I guess! Yes, sunrise was lovely today, and the morning was cool & pleasant ... at least until 30 min. after sunrise! We have to get our walk in early, or it's treadmill time instead.

Guess I'd better get back to work! It's more fun visiting with y'all here, but Dh will wonder what I did with my time if I don't get busy again!
Regards,
Jan

Oops, please forgive me, Tyme, for misspelling your name--I've got my mind on my herb garden, I guess! I just read Jan's post and found that I had added that extra "h."

I do agree with Jan that your decision to go back to WW is a big step toward reaching your ultimate goal. Take "baby steps" and you'll find that you can do it. She is right, it is SO worth it to stay with the program.

How is everyone today? It is hot here, but at least the humidity has dissapated for awhile. The smog isn't too bad today either, I can see the mountains from where I am sitting here in the family room.

Tonight DH and I are going downtown to the Tuesday evening Farmer's Market. I'm hoping to find some good buys, and lots of fresh foods. We are totally out of salad ingredients, so I'm going with that in mind.

Dawn, how are you doing today?

Jan, did you and DH walk again at sunrise this morning? How are you doing, are you staying OP?

I haven't had much of an appetite for the past few days, so I have come in under my range a few times (not meaning to). Nothing has sounded good to me.

Haven't heard a peep from JOYce, they must be having a wonderful vacation, sans any internet connections!

Nascar Girl 08-07-2003 08:45 AM

Hi all! I've been MIA for a while, still plugging along. Still trying to get this weight off! I ordered " The firm2" it came in the mail so plan on starting it on Friday. Maybe this will help with the WL. I had to have my 9 yr old cocker spaniel put to sleep on 7/3, she was my baby. Her kidneys failed. That really about killed me. I just got a new dog, a Cairn Terrier (toto dog) He is a live wire and lots of company. He seems to be very smart and lears quickly. We are going to puppy classes, he is a shining star! LOL!
Well better get back to work. Just wanted to say hi and let ya'll know I'm still around!

gmalil 08-07-2003 01:12 PM

I'm home

Just checking in...so much to get caught up on! including new friends! Welcome gals!
I have lots of reading to do to get caught up. But first have to attack some dirty clothes and unpacking.

We had a good trip, and I came home 'wearing' a bread bowl of Pismo clam chowder on each hip. (It was soooo good!)
Walking over the sand dunes to get to the shore, showed me just how very out of shape I have allowed myself to be.:(
Now to plan some good OP meals ...dh is so good about cutting back, since he had his diabetes scare. Even drinking diet sodas and cutting out the sugar in his tea! major accomplishments for him.

more later..

JanetMae 08-07-2003 03:21 PM

Hi Linda! Wow, a farmer's market in California, nothing better! DH and I have been to a few in San Francisco, where we always discover new veggies. What did you buy?

Hi Nascar girl! Good to hear from you! I am so sorry about your cocker spaniel; I know how hard that must have been for you, but I'm sure she had a wonderful nine years with you. Your little Cairn Terrier sounds so cute!

JOYce, so glad you're back! We missed you! Glad to hear your DH is making progress on his efforts to eat healthy! And I'm sure you'll be back OP yourself in no time, too. A few bowls of clam chowder can't have done too much damage, but your description of wearing them was hilarious!

Sorry to be awol the last couple of days. Had to travel to my great-aunt's home, east of here, to help settle her estate. We had just celebrated her 99th birthday with her this spring, and she passed away peacefully this summer. She was quite a lady; worked at her insurance business well into her nineties, played piano and organ at church and Rotary, active in so many community groups. I just wish I can be half that energetic and happy, if I'm fortunate enough to live so long. We'll miss her.

Have been good with program since getting home from Florida, and the weight is coming off a little each day. Could possibly make a free WI this Saturday, but if it's still over, I'm not going to stress. Will just keep working at it until it's back down! DH and I have walked every morning, and that has helped give me more energy, too.

But I'm behind schedule on the house, now, because of those two days out of town. Guess I'd better get busy!

Hope everyone is having a great week!

Regards,
Jan

Linda Jean 08-07-2003 05:53 PM

Nascar Girl, I'm sorry about your Cocker Spaniel. We do get very attached to our animals, and it is hard to let go. It sounds as though you did the right thing by her, though. I'm sure that you had a wonderful nine years together. Glad that you have a new "Toto" type dog, he must keep you hopping with all his energy! Have fun at puppy classes.

JOYce, I'm so glad that you are home and posting again, hooray!!! I'm sure that Jan is right, that you'll recover from those two "bread bowls" you're carrying on your hips (hee!) sooner than you know. I'm happy to read that DH is cutting back on sugar, that is a big step for him, I know.

Jan, we were sort of disappointed in our little town's "farmer's market" Tuesday night. We should have known something was awry when the banner over our main street advertised a "summer festival" every Tuesday evneing, it was mostly crafts for sale! We did buy some luscious white peaches, they were soooo good. Our town is pretty small, so I really didn't expect TOO much...! We do have a nice, newly-opened produce/organic food market which has wonderful sales every week (otherwise it is pretty expen$ive!), and I have been taking advantage of that. I imagine that a farmer's market in San Francisco would be quite a big deal -- you are blessed to have been able to go to it. Thank you for telling us a little about your sweet Great Aunt, she sounds like she was a very special person, one whom I would certainly have liked to know. She was blessed to have passed away peacefully, that was surely a gift from the Lord. Was she your Dad's Aunt? How is your Dad doing, by the way? Good for you for being OP ever since you got home from Florida, I'm hoping for a free WI for you this Saturday! Be sure you post your results.

I had a bit of a disappointing WI on Wednesday, gained .6. My leader said it was probably because I had eaten below my range for three or four days (just wasn't hungry), then I ate 10 points over my range for a couple of days. I must've confused my bod. I'm going to be more careful about getting in all my points on days when I don't feel hungry by eating a piece of cheese or something like that. I'm 10 pounds from goal now.

KellyQ 08-07-2003 11:48 PM

Okay... I'm still alive, barely. I got some hideous bronchitis-type thing, and managed to spend a week and a half dividing my time between my bed and the couch. The bad news is that I feel like sh**, but the good news is that my Monday weigh-in was 202 pounds, so I'm right on the line!

(this flashing red "winner" ad is going to drive me insane.)

Tyme... you will feel a million times better when you lose the weight again. Do you have any idea what happened? My only downsides are that I can't afford new clothes, and I can't wear my wedding ring anymore. 60 pounds was a fantastic loss! My weigh-in is on Mondays.

Anyway, I'm still recouping... back to work half time.

Nascar girl... I'm so sorry about your cocker. Our dog Lady just died on July 4th. I've heard serious Pro's and Con's about Cairns. Frankly, the only one I've dealt with personally I ADORED. There was nothing to complain about with him whatsoever. But, I know a lot of people call them "heel biters." Congratulations!

Kelly

Kelly! We were in your 'neck of the woods' last friday night. We parked our trailer at Abrams campground for the night. There is a cute little habitat lake there with ducks and a flock of geese that took off in formation soon after we arrived. As we were driving down the freeway, I was tying to remember who it is that lives there. You are who I was thinking of. sorry you were so sick, a lousy way to lose the weight!

JanetMae 08-09-2003 08:15 AM

Hi Linda! That's so great, that you are only ten pounds from goal! And not feeling hungry is a good thing (as long as you get your min. points) ... but you're not feeling ill, are you? I wouldn't worry about that tiny fraction of a gain; those little ups and downs don't always reflect what's actually happening inside. Re: my great-aunt, she was my mother's aunt. She had no children of her own, and was very close to Mother.

Hi Kelly! So good to hear from you again! I'm so sorry that you have been sick; hope you are improving steadily; don't rush back into too much at work. WTG on the losses! You really ARE right on the line! The "big kerchunk" on the scale is right around the corner! Yay! (Kelly, did you get my PM last month?)

JOYce, how lovely, that you got to see the geese take off in formation .. that must have been quite a sight!

Gotta run ... Dad, dh and I are heading to San Antonio for errands and WW mtg. Looks like I won't make no pay again, but I promised myself to keep going weekly until I reach that again, and I'm pretty close now.

Hope everyone has a great Saturday!
Regards,
Jan

Linda Jean 08-10-2003 04:12 AM

Kelly, I'm sorry to read that you aren't feeling well, hope that you get to rest a lot over this weekend, and will be feeling much perkier by Monday.

My sis and I went to Greg Laurie's "Harvest Crusade" tonight at Edison Field (home of the Anaheim Angels)...it was awesome! I would guess that about 2,000 people went forward at the altar call--we were wiping our eyes with joy. What a night.

Thanks for asking how I'm feeling, Jan, I am fine, but it has just been a task to eat enough points. I know that this could very well sabotage my losses, but I just don't feel like eating that much (just less of an appetite for some reason). I don't plan out my points each day, as I never know what it will be that I want to eat. I have a bowl of cereal for breakfast and a sandwich in the middle of the day, and find it hard to eat 16 more points (which takes me to my minimum). I hate to eat a bigger bowl of cereal, or put real mayonnaise on my sandwich, for example, because I always think that I may need the extra points for dinner.:hun:

Have a wonderful Sunday!

JOYce, what fun to have seen the geese take off in formation, I have never seen anything like that.

Nascar Girl 08-11-2003 08:46 AM

Thanks everyone for your support on the loss of Buffy.
Linda Jean - you are so right Casey is a ball of energy! He keeps me going! Maybe I'll losse more weight with the exercise of playing with him!

Kelly Q - Sorry to hear about your Lady. Thanks for the info on Cairns. So far Casey is a lovable little fella who loves to play. He even entertains himself! He is definately a ball of energy!

Hope everyone had a good weekend!

Janet Mae - My weight loss has been majorly slow; I v'e had some gain and loss again I don't wanta get discouraged. But it seems like I'm never gonna get my 10% I get so close and then bam a gain. I do know that the other week I weighed on Monday at WW and had a gain and then weighed on Thurs at my DR and was 3 pounds lighter! I think something is up with the scale. I felt no different the few days. How long did it take you to reach your goal?

On a positive note, I purchased the firm2 system and plan on starting it this week too so maybe I will see results in 10 workouts as it claims! Will keep ya posted.
