Thursday Chatter

This is a great thread and we would like everyone to come join us!!!!

I am soooooo tired tonight. This is our 3rd day of painting. The first one was getting the room ready and priming it. Then, I spent a few hours the next day painting the ceiling. Today, we painted the walls. Tomorrow afternoon, we'll do the trim and the doors. I will be so happy to be able to sleep in my bedroom again.
Oh yes, tomorrow we must go buy new blinds for the two windows. Minor detail.

Punky, I still can't believe you are going to put down tile.

Tammy, Tim is very smart to get the Lifesaving course done. You will reallyl miss him next week. Are you sure your painting was that bad. :)

Where is Sheree?????

I hope Susan isn't eating the hospital food.

Tina

auntie 07-21-2003 07:28 PM

Hi All,

Tina, painting does NOT sound fun!! I'm sure that it is a beautiful site to see everything with a nice coat of paint. I did eat the hospital food. I mostly ate salads, except the first night when I spent the night with mom. I made a trip tot he vending machines for a snack and diet dr. pepper, ended up with twizzlers.

Mom is doing good. She got to come home on Sunday. I stayed at the hospital from about 8 in the morning until 8 or 9 at night with only one night leaving early and taking my niece and nephews to swim.

It's been a long week. However I did manage to eat some Mexican food, and boy was it YUMMY!

Tina 07-21-2003 11:16 PM

Monday!
I am exhausted! Everything on my body hurts. I have sore muscles that never existed before. Painting is for the birds.
Doing delicate, precise work has played a number on my arms and wrists.
Oh well, the room is looking great. :)

Susan, I'm glad your mother is doing well and got to go home. She'll feel good in her own surroundings. I hope you ate enough Mexican food for me, too. ;)

How was everyone's weekend????? Anything exciting happen???

Tina

auntie 07-24-2003 08:11 PM

Hi guys,
Well when you don't expect it the unexpected happens. I was offered the sign language job at the high school. I had not applied for it or anything. My old assistant principal got moved up there this summer and she knew that i was interested in it. She called the new principal and asked if she could talk to me. I accepted. It will be different not running all of those meetings like i have done in the past, but it is great knowing that I will be teaching again.

I gained 5 pounds this week. boo!!!!

Tina 07-24-2003 09:11 PM

Congratulations, Susan. That's great!!!!!!!

Tammy 07-25-2003 08:38 PM

Tina, our painting experience was awful! We bought a power painter to help with all of the ceilings. Bob was in our bedroom and the stupid thing exploded! Paint was everywhere. I'll never forget the look on his face. Poor guy.

I took Tim and 3 others to Scout camp last Sunday. We witnessed an accident on the interstate. It happened right behind us. 3 people were killed. I didn't find that out until later, and the boys were at camp so they didn't know. Anyway, I went to the State Patrol office to give my report. He told me it would take about 30 minutes. I was there for 1 1/2 hours!!! He told me that I gave them lots of useful information. He also told me that I have beautiful handwriting!!! LOL I'm just so thankful that we were just that far ahead of being involved. The car behind me was less than 2 car lengths from me, and she is the one that caused the accident. She slammed on her brakes and was rearended by a semi, then another semi hit that one, then a 3rd semi crushed a car (with the 3 people) between it and semit 2, then a jeep went under the 3rd semi. We didn't know it was that bad. We only saw the first car and the first 2 semis. Tim is home now and knows what happened. The other boys are 5th and 6th grade, so we're not planning to tell them. What a week.

I only have 5 more kids to fit for band uniforms. Tomorrow is a parade. I'm chaperoning and walking with the band. On Sunday, we (yes me too) leave for band camp.

That's all for now.

auntie 07-28-2003 10:11 PM

Wow it sure is quiet here!!!

I know Tammy is gone to band camp but how horrible to see that accident. Your guardian angel was definitely with you.

Tammy, how are you doing friend? It sure is hot here! What about there? What a silly question! :hot: :flame:

Well, let me give everyone some advice :rollinpin: NEVER NEVER get gas and go through the carwash forgetting to put your gas cap back on. It is an expensive lesson, like a $400 one. I pulled out of the car wash and looked in the rear mirror. I almost cried!!!! I pulled over, then called Pat and the dealer. They said get it in right away. Pat said "don't worry about it, it's not like you tried to do it." He was so calm, probably figured he better be since I was crying for forgetting. I got out of my pattern at the gas station. :stars:

Well I'm off to see my girlfriend on Thursday. Haven't seen her in 8 years. We are meeting in St. Louis. I can't wait.

Hope everyone is doing well. Stay cool!!!!

Tina 07-28-2003 10:21 PM

Happy Monday!!!!!

That was an awful thing that Tammy went through. Witnessing a wreck has to be nerve-wracking.

Susan-- I am so sorry about your car. What happened at the gas station to make you forget about the gas cap?

It is way too quiet around here. I am to blame as much as anyone. I will definitely do better.

Have a great time in St. Louis, Susan. Have you been there before? I never have but Larry has.
Oh, Susan, how is your mother doing?

I am back in the groove to lose. I went out and bought lots of fruit and veggies. I haven't been good at eating those things. This week is a new week. :)

Tina

Tammy 08-02-2003 01:28 PM

Hi all! Got home from band camp yesterday afternoon. It was alot of fun, but so much work for the kids. They learned so much!! I think (hope) that it's going to be a good year for them.

Had a message from the state patrol officer that I talked to. He needs to talk to me again. Bob talked to him the other day and told him that he hopes this doesn't go on forever because I'm having some problems with it. (lack of sleep, nervous when driving, etc.) The trooper told him that they are just so glad that I came forward. Apparently others that witnessed it have not come forward.

Anyway, I just called the state patrol to talk to him and he's out on the road. He's supposed to call me back later when he gets in. Now I feel like I have to stay around the house until he calls. I'm doing laundry anyway, so I guess I wasn't going anywhere.

Loads of walking and steps this week. I thought I did a good job on food choices. No cake, cookies, other desserts. Water and diet pop. Small entrees. Lots of fruits and vegies. I gained 5 pounds. I almost cried. I don't understand what happened. Oh, my period started while we were there. That was the 2nd one for July. Oh boy!

That's all for now.

Sheree~AK 08-04-2003 02:51 PM

Hi boy you guys don't have many posts but TONS of info..
Tammy how devasting to go through a near miss on that car accicent..I will pray for you to get over it..I guess it will be time and your mind to take over new thoughts. I did the same thing when mom was here for the almost 3 weeks..I thought I was making wise choices and not over eating..well I did gain 2.8 I am just jumping on that band wagon to loose it again..I am determined to loose to my goal weight around the new year or as close to it as possible.
Susan that is something I would have done...I did put reg gas in my diesel car once...I say only ONCE!! that was a $600 mistake!
That sign language job sounds like a wonderful opportunity..good for you. The 5 lbs will come off again I know it will,..just jump back on the program! You know funny thing..I have been doing WW for 8 months and just realized I think I am not being constitant wtih my load of water..I am good one day and not good the next or only good for a few days and then not good. I did read somewhere that it can confuse your body and begin retaining water if not continually flushing it out.
Well I have been feeling under the weather.a head cold today! A head ache taht is my whole head!! UGH! I am going to go take a shower to try to get rid of it. I am also going to make 0 point soup for lunch.
chat soon.

Tina 08-04-2003 03:23 PM

It's a hot Monday here. The forecast is for 100 degrees on Wed. Our heat index has been over that for weeks. So, I can't imagine what the index will be with a real temp of 100!

Tammy, I'm sorry you are having problems from the accident. I"ve never had that horrible experience. But, time will help.

Sheree, I never heard that about not consistently drinking the water and the metabolism. I need to get back with it! I've been drinking much more diet cola than water. And, in this weather, I need the water anyway.

We were without our a/c for 6 hrs on Saturday. We had to have some parts of the a/c, in the attic, replaced. It was one very warm house! Our cat got scared and went under the bed and wouldn't come out. I just aimed a fan under the bed for him. I think he had the coolest place in town.

Everyone take care.
I wish everyone would start posting more!!!!! hint,,,hint,,,hint

Tammy 08-05-2003 06:46 AM

Hi all! The 5 pounds that I gained at band camp are gone! Weird. I'm glad though. lol

The state trooper was very nice when he called. He did say that I could be called as a witness in court if it ever comes to that. Well, that sure didn't help me relax at all. Almost made me wish that I never would've called them. He said that only 3 people came forward as witnesses other than the ones that were directly involved with the accident.

Finished fitting band uniforms last night. Relief!! Glad that's done. Now my uniform job is done until the end of marching season (Nov.).

We have an in-service today at school, so I guess I should go get ready. Not real thrilled about dealing with the principal. I saw him for 10 minutes yesterday and I left the building in tears. I just don't understand how someone in that position can be such a jerk. I swear he was never a teacher.

Tina 08-06-2003 11:35 PM

Hi everyone,
Tammy, I'm so sorry you have so much on your mind. Going to court doesn't sound like fun. Hopefully, it won't come to that. How was workday and did you have to talk to that principal. I wish he would re-locate!!!!!

Susan, how are you doing?

Sis, post, girl.
Sheree, have you recovered from your mom's visit?

Maureen---if you are out there reading this----post.

Everyone that I haven't mentioned by name------let's hear from you.

Does anyone start school after Labor Day????? That's when we used to start. Our schools start on August 18th. That is ridiculous.

Does anyone still journal everyday? I haven't in ages. That's one reason I don't lose enough. That and my metabolism slowing down.....at least that's what all the books tell me is happening. I walked on my treadmill today and will tomorrow. That's a good start back.
Tina

maureen kempster 08-07-2003 02:22 PM

Hi everyone

It's been quite a while since I posted-I do browse everyday though. I haven't been following program & let me tell you it shows. I have about 20 lbs to lose to get to my goal weight.

Since I was here I am now working 2 jobs. I started a new job back in Feb & I now work part time mon to fri(4:30pm to 8pm) & every 2nd saturday at my old job. So I'm keeping busy but it seems that I just eat more junk food. Now that I'm back here maybe that will be incentive.

Hope everyone is doing great & I promise I'll post more often

maureen

Sis 08-07-2003 02:55 PM

Hi all. sorry I haven't posted lately. I've been kind of bummed about my job and the things going on there. I haven't totally blown it but I don't think I've done so hot. I will weigh tomorrow as I have already drank more than 40 oz of liquid today plus having eaten. I am trying to keep doing my exercise machine though not as much as I should. I am going to do better though, cuz I know how much better I FEEL when I do. Hope everyone else is doing well.

How about you Tina? Good job on the treadmill.
Tammy congrats on the 5 lbs being gone.
Sheree, hope all is well with you and yours.
And everyone else who I may not have mentioned I hope things are going well......Have a GREAT day!!! ....Sis :D

auntie 08-07-2003 09:39 PM

Hi Everyone,
I had a wonderful time in St. Louis!!! It was great to see my friend after such a long time. I got home on Tuesday, but it has taken me this long to feel rested.

Tammy, I'm sorry that you are going through all of this with the accident. I know it's tough but you did the right thing. Try some mediating or do something to help you relax each day. Easy to say with school starting, right?

I go back on Monday, our kids start on the 18th too.

Tina, it has been VERY HOT here too. Yesterday it was 108, who knows what the heat index was! It was over 100 today and will be for the next 4-5 days.

Ya'll take care. I'll right more soon. I'm getting ready to meet a friend for dinner.

Tammy 08-07-2003 10:47 PM

Our work day was OK. I didn't say anything to the principal, and it seemed like he was steering clear of me also. No problem with that!!!!

I worked with the other 2nd grade teacher that teaches Math all day. We got so much accomplished. We were very proud of ourselves. We were also getting very tired by the end of the day and we had the giggles. That is not a good thing when the 2 of us get started.

Tina, I have journaled today!!! lol The nutritionist that I met with thought it would be a good idea to get back into the habit. I know she is right. Now I just need to do it!!!

Maureen, it is about time you started posting again young lady!!!! We all need to be here to support each other through our ups and downs. Glad to hear from you.

Sis, it sounds like both of us are bummed about our jobs. Hope things work out for you. Keep it up on the exercise machine. I know how much better I feel when I go to Curves. It usually puts me in a better mood.

Tammy 08-07-2003 10:51 PM

Susan, I typed my post and didn't realize there was a page 2!!! I missed your message.

I've been reading some Bible passages the past few days, and I think that is helping with dealing with the accident. I keep replaying it in my mind trying to figure out if there is anything else that I need to tell the officer.

Our work day is the 22nd, the kids start on the 25th. The county fair starts on the 15th and runs through the 23rd. I'll be involved with the band booster food tent that week, plus getting my classroom ready.

Where did you go for dinner???? Why weren't we invited?

auntie 08-07-2003 10:59 PM

Tammy,
Would you believe we never got together. My friend isn't always reliable! So I would never put money on going. You guys are always invited. Wish we lived close enough that we could all get together.

I'm glad that you are reading, and that is helping. Just remember that we are all here for you!!!

Tina 08-12-2003 10:45 PM

Hi everyone,
Tammy, good for you for journaling. Now, encourage me to do so. I did write down all my points today. I just kept a little piece of paper in the kitchen. I guess that's better than nothing.
Please try to relax about the accident. Reading is very good. I've heard that yoga is good but have never tried it.

Susan, is this your work week?

Maureen, you are a busy person. I'm so glad to hear from you.

Sis, things will get better.

How is everyone else doing?????

I "feel" like I'm losing some pounds and that gives me incentive. I've been really careful with my food choices now for 3 days. I'm so looking forward to weighing on Thursday.

Tina
:flow1:

auntie 08-12-2003 10:54 PM

Hi Ya'll,

Sorry I've been so bad about posting. It seems like there is never a dull moment and when I stop, I fall asleep.

Yes, it is work week. It was really an odd feeling going to a different school and not knowing very many people. I really like my team and the administrators. Kids start on Monday. I just hope I'm ready for them because they are coming ready or not. :) I actually get to work in my room on Friday.

I'm really trying hard to watch what I eat. I plan to go back to Curves as soon as soon gets going next week.

I'll write more tomorrow. Hope you are having a great day.

Tammy 08-13-2003 11:53 AM

I worked in my room for a couple hours last night while Tim was at band practice. The paint fumes are awful! I had the windows open and the fan running, but I still had a headache when I left.

I've been trying to make wiser choices when it comes to carbs since I met with the nutritionist. Hopefully, it will show on the scales!

Susan, best wishes on the new job in the new building! I've taught in the same district for 26 years. Started out in the elementary, went to the middle school, now I'm back in the elementary. If this principal keeps it up, I may ask for a switch to the middle school next year if there is an opening. Bob even mentioned it to me the other night.

Tim and a crew of boys are going to be building bat houses and duck houses starting at noon today. I guess I'm supposed to be there to supervise! Isn't that scary???

Tina 08-14-2003 10:42 PM

It's time for Friday and then the weekend.
There's a tropical storm brewing in the east part of the Gulf. This does not make me happy.
Larry works for the electric company and will have to go into the computer area if we have a storm coming towards us.
We've planned on going out of town to see friends.
Hopefully, this storm will go far southwest and miss our part of the TX coast.

This news today has completely upset my mind. I've drunk 3 Diet Cokes and very little water. Foodwise, I've been pretty good, though.
I lost 1/2 pound and that is good. I just wish more would come off.
I know, I know--it's easy to put it on and harder to take it off.

auntie 08-14-2003 10:51 PM

Hi Friends,
I am completely exhausted!!! Wonder why??? I love my new job and all of my team members. It is strange being on the teaching side again. I've worked on getting my syllabus ready and lesson plans. Once I get going I'll be fine. I put myself under more pressure than anyone else does. Go figure!!!

I've been so tired at night that I'm not really hungry. That's a first. Hopefully something will start happening. I plan to go back to Curves next Wednesday. I want to get the first 2 days of school under my belt. Then I'll start back to a meeting too.

It has rained off and on for the last 2 days. The ground is still hard!!

Tina, Hope Larry doesn't have to work so you can go out of town.
Tammy, I hear you on your principal. I hear I was smart getting out when I did with the new admin. at my old school. So far I'm really happy where I'm at.

Off to bed before I crash. I'll write more this weekend.

Tammy 08-15-2003 08:23 AM

I just heard about the storm in the Gulf. You guys stay safe!!!!

Tim is at Cross Country practice, then goes to band right after that. He starts working at the county fair tonight making lemonade shake-ups. You can see the dollar signs in his eyes already! $$$$$$

That's money that will go toward his Disney trip with the band in February.

Tina 08-15-2003 09:59 AM

Happy Friday!
Tammy--I have a question. What's a lemonade shake-up? It sounds interesting. I wish we could all come to your fair. We don't have fairs around here. There's a state fair once year but I've never been.

Susan, we think the storm is going into the Brownsville area. That will be great. We're planning on our trip. Since we're only 1 3/4 hrs. from home, we could drive back quickly if really necessary.

I hope everyone has a great weekend.
I guess that Black-out didn't affect any of our members, did it????

Tina
:flow1:

auntie 08-15-2003 10:32 PM

Hey friends,

I was wondering the same thing.... "what is a lemonade shakeup?" It sounds yummy!!!!

Tammy, Tim sure is a busy boy!!! Wish I had some of that energy! What does the dr. say these days?

Tina, have you been to the State Fair? You should come up and we could go together. Hope you get to go on your trip!

Well, Monday is the day. Kids come. I think I have my room ready. I might run up to school just to double check everything.

Have a great weekend.

Tammy 08-16-2003 06:48 AM

A lemonade shake up consists of water, ice, sugar, fresh lemon juice, and maybe some lemon parts. It all goes into a large cup and is shaken. I can't believe you guys have never had one! I've been drinking them since I was a kid at the local festivals and the fair. The place that Tim works for also has one that adds strawberries and juice to the lemonade one. It is absolutely delicious!

Our county fair is HUGE! I don't remember what the attendace usually is for the week, but it rivals the attendance of the Ohio state fair. It's a biggy!

The band marched at the county fair north of here last week. It was extremely disappointing for some of the kids. They expected a fair like we have. That one was so small.

Tim got off work at 11:30 last night, and he went straight to bed after washing off the lemon juice from his arms and legs. LOL I'm letting him sleep this morning. I'll get him up by 10:00 because he needs to mow my aunt's yard. He goes back to do shake-ups at 3:00. Gets off at 11:30 again. busy kid.

My BP has been good. The new med he put me on doesn't have the "water pill" part to it. He said that can cause a raise in blood sugars. I go back for a blood test in mid-Sept. to see if the blood sugars are down.

Susan, best of luck on starting a new school year. I always feel like I'm ready, then I start 2nd guessing myself. I need to go in later today and do some more throwing away. I did that at the end of last year, but I'm finding more things that I can do without.

Tina, enjoy your trip!

Tina 08-18-2003 09:32 PM

Greetings!

That lemonade shake sounds like a good old fashioned lemonade. I wouldn't mind having one right now.

We did go on our trip and had a wonderful time. My friend and I talked so much that we almost burned the peach cobbler we were making. She had a new recipe and it wasn't very good. :(
I don't think I gained anything this weekend.
Her husband is on a constant diet. Right now it's a low carb diet. This man is about 6'1" tall and is so skinny. He runs every day. I think he could be a marathon runner. I think gaining weight is just a "mind thing."

Susan, how was your first day of teaching?????

Sis, when does your daughter start back to school?
Sheree, when do Alaska schools start?

Y'all take care and think of us Texans suffering in the heat. It's going to be over 100 here tomorrow.
Tina
:flow1:

auntie 08-18-2003 10:09 PM

Well, I survived the first day of high school. I am wiped out tonight!!!!

I would love one of those lemonade shake-ups right now too.

It was so hot outside tonight, that I took my shirt off! Good thing neighbors don't live too close. It was stifling and took your breath away.

I'm off to get ready for bed. Will write more tomorrow.

Tina 08-19-2003 09:16 AM

:o  Susan, I'd loved to see you taking that shirt off. :)

Sis 08-19-2003 03:11 PM

Our school starts on the 25th. My dd is so excited! :) She is starting her first yr in middle school. Here 6th grade is middle school. When I was a kid it was still elementary! She has already asked me about wearing makeup. Right now I've told her no, not for another year. I just think 10 going on 11 is a bit young. I said in 7th grade she could start wearing light make up. I think that is plenty soon enough. I let her wear lip balm or clear lip gloss with sparkles right now but thats all. Hope everyone else is having a good week. Take care and chat soon....Sis :D

Tammy 08-19-2003 10:08 PM

Hi gang! Just a quick note. Bob was in a car accident Sunday evening. He's doing OK but pretty banged up. He has broken ribs, collapsed lung, concussion, problems with his left knee, and something with the kidney.

Apparently he pulled in front of an SUV. Our Malibu didn't stand a chance. It is totaled. They took him to one hospital, then Careflighted him to Dayton to a larger hospital. It's about an hour to get there one way. Tim is still trying to work at the fair, so we're running back and forth alot.

My brother was going down tonight. I'll go back down tomorrow sometime. I'm still trying to get my room ready at school, so things are crazy.

We're just so thankful that he will be OK. He's alive!

Tina 08-19-2003 11:33 PM

Oh, Tammy-----I am so sorry about Bob.
I'm thankful he's alive. Please do keep us informed about his progress. You are in my prayers.

Tina

Sis 08-20-2003 03:45 PM

Tammy ((((hugs)))) My thoughts and prayers are with you and yours....Sis

Tammy 08-20-2003 10:02 PM

Just wanted to let you all know that Bob ate today!!! Not much, but he hadn't been able to keep anything down, not even clear liquids. They took him off of Motrin, and apparently that did the trick.

They may take out the chest tube tomorrow. If they do, he may come home tomorrow night or Friday if everything else is looking good.

Tim and I went to get things out of the car today. The man with the towing service couldn't believe that Bob wasn't hurt worse than he was because of the looks of the car.

WE ARE VERY LUCKY!!!

Tina 08-21-2003 04:43 PM

I'm going to start a new thread for us now.

Tina
