G'day all,

My news is worthy of starting a new thread :D
I have lost 2.6 this week. http://www.3fatchicks.com/ubb//dizzy.gif
I am really pleased there has finally been a shift in this very persistent weight of mine.

Good to see you back Glenda, I can imagene you would have not been in much of a mood to post here this past week or so. Shame you cannot attend your son's wedding, particularly seeing you are (and he is I guess ;))so thrilled with his choice.

Regarding elective surgery, the exact same applies here, unless you are privately insured you can have whatever surgery immediately otherwise there is a long wait.

Another very hot day, more knitting today :)
The only reason I am able to knit on these very hot days is because our house is fully air conditioned and half the time I am unaware how hot it is until I move outside :p
We are a little concerned about our swims now, there have been about 5 shark attacks this summer, one shark was spotted just off 'our' beach yesterday http://www.3fatchicks.com/ubb//nervous.gif
Going to Singapore in 2 weeks time, more heat but different scenery!
Have a great day all.
Cheers
Maria

Geri 02-06-2001 10:35 AM

Dee, so glad that your DD is doing better. Bless her heart, she has had a rough time. Glad you have a housekeeper too. Remember, it is her job to clean for you----not yours to clean for her. Let her do the things you just despise. (of course for me that would be all housework).

Maria, I like to knit too. Havent done any for about 4 years. Have you ever considered a knitting machine to do the back and sleeves (when they are plain stockinette stich) and save the handwork for the fronts and design areas? When do they expect to get the fire under control?

First Place uses an exchange list that is very similar to the diet Jean Neiditch (sp?) originally stole from the New York City Health department. It is virtually the same plan without the emphasis on fish and liver. I compare First Place to a Christian Weight Watchers before they started fooling around with points. It is very much like the old selection plan without any of the sugar. We have to commit to no sugar during the weight loss portion. I start tomorrow so I ate about a half pound (maybe more) of homemade fudge last night. I know that with the support I will get with my First Place group that I will be able to stay on track. Besides, I am the leader so I have to stay honest. It was my way of forcing myself to be honest for 13 weeks. I will keep you posted as to my progress.

Glenda, I know this week has been brutal for you. I hope that your school recovers from this grief weekly.

LilyG 02-06-2001 09:33 PM

Maria: Congrats on the loss! What you did worked. Glad it helped to get you moving!

Glenda: Hope things are going better now. You did have a hard week. Hang in there.

Geri: Good for you. Being the leader to! Hope this helps you, sounds like it will. Keep us posted on how it goes.

Deelite 02-06-2001 09:56 PM

Good morning Ladies :) :) :)

It is another grey mild day here. We haven't seen the sun since Thursday or Friday. :( How are you doing with that Trudy? I am looking forward to seeing the sun.

I haven't been to a ww meeting since before christmas. I won't have to pay because the leader said I have a good medical reason to miss. I will have to try to get there this month.

My DD is finally going to see her new therapist today. She hasn't had any therpy since she has been out of the hospital. It is about time!

Maria Way to go on the weight loss. Doesn't feel great? Well you say there is sharks in your water....yikes that is kind of scary! So what do you think about the deal...Slavika's tree skirt for a knitted sweater for me?????

Geri You seem to know me quite well. I need to leave her do the cleanning. I was so nervous last week that I cleanned before she came. She comes every wednesday...so this week I will try not to tidy to much.MMMM that fudge sounds good! I hope you enjoyed it. Now back to business.lol

Have a good day ladies!

DEE

The sun is out, the robins have returned, Maria has had a great weight loss finally. Good going. Maybe it is all the knitting. The sharks sound scary - take care. Glenda our local morning paper had a nice article about your basketball team winning last nite. They had a lot of pictures and a story about all your tragedy. Geri, your no sugar diet sounds hard. Good luck and I bet that fudge was good. Good grief, I just hear major bad words coming from the kitchen. My DH is painting and he knocked something over. I thought it was the paint bucket but it was just a bucket of water. I better go help. Peggy

flaggies 02-07-2001 05:00 AM

G'day all

Just letting you know that I will not be attending anymore ww meetings. I received (read bought) the ww cd yesterday and it is excellent. It has all the information and much more than I would ever hope to get at a ww meeting. Don't get me wrong, I think the meetings are great for some, I just happen to have had a fairly ordinary leader and because of my lifestyle (travelling a fair bit) the cd loaded on my laptop is just excellent. It has a journal and automatically calculates the points I have for the day, a facility to easily work out the points of a favourite recipe and a huge data base with all the points for the most common foods available in Australia. DH and I are doing this together (he only needs to loose 5 pounds :( :)). I have never shared any of the ww information with him but it is making the journey much easier having his support and his understanding of the program.
I know the cd is not available in the States nor in Canada, I really feel you should try and persuade your local ww organisation to make it available.
Dee I don't know if you would like the jacket I am knitting, it is a bit like Joseph's coat of many colours :D :D My daughter loves anything a little unusual (slightly eccentric ;))hence she wanted me to knit her 'own' design, with lots of different colours and textures. I am not looking forward to sewing it up, there are so many threads that have to be sewn in
Still very hot here today, bushfires under control in this state but in Western Australia there are some fires burning out of control :(. It has been a very hot summer, winter is looking pretty good at this stage.
Have a great day all.
Cheers
Maria

Peggy: Send your DH over to my house it could use some painting. We really need to paint the outside of my house soon. It needs it badly.

Maria: Thats WW CD sounds pretty neat. I wish they would offer it here.
Sounds like it would be very helpful.

Where is everybody hiding? Sure is quite here

survivor 02-07-2001 10:16 PM

Wow, Slavika going to Hawaii has really slowed down our message board. I think she is the stirrer with her stories, don't you?

Well, my son called yesterday with the news of his child's sex--a boy. I tried not to sound disappointed, just wanted a granddaughter so bad. Surely the next time. I have 3 sons and soon will have my 3rd grandson. We are about due. Anyway, after talking to him, I realized how extremely cocky he is about his boy. He took the revealing ultrasound to work and showed it to his fellow coaches and got a lot of high-5's. Men! My older son with the two little boys is going to buy "The Book" before they try for another, hoping for advice on how to conceive a girl. Is there a book like this? Anyway, I am getting excited about this baby. He should be special because both his parents are pretty special. His name will be Austen or Auston? Cole. Cool name.

Maria, congratulations on the loss. Wish we could get that program. If you find yourself slipping, you can always go back to WW. Today we have sunshine and forecast of 68 degrees. So ready for a little warmth and sun. Our basketball team flew for the first time since the tragedy to Lincoln, NE and got there safely. It has been so cold and gloomy here that we are ready for some of your sun.

Lily - how are you doing? How much more do you have to go to goal? You are an inspiration to us all because of your steady progress.
Glenda

donna p 02-08-2001 01:07 AM

Mornin' all - This last week has just flow by but I want to take a few minutes to catch up on the board. If I don't then I will be too far behind again.

First of all - congratulations to all the losers. You are doing good and it gives me such inspiration.

Oh Dee I could use your housekeeper but I probably would want to work right along side of her. I always feel I can't ask people to do what I wouldn't do but I guess if I was feely punky like you I would just love to have the help. Looking after yourself is the most important thing.

I wish we had that CD here too. We are always the last to get stuff like that.

Glenda you will be so excited when the baby comes. It will be adorable no matter whether boy or girl.

Craig and Tanya had their place broken into and robbed a few weeks ago so Tanya insisted on moving so this weekend we will all be helping them move into their new digs. Hopefully some of that exercise will burn up some calories..

Well I got to go do some housework and I'm off to yoga tonight. later all........donna

painter5 02-08-2001 07:20 AM

Lily I will be GLAD to send my DH to paint. If only we were closer. GLENDA, my friend finally got her first granddaughter. She has 4 sons and 3 grandsons. I know it will finally happen to you. Your warm weather is coming our way tomorrow. How is your diet coming along Geri? We are going to one of the gambling boats tomorrow - Maybe I will win my fortune with my $20. Ha Ha. Good luck on all your diets - that cd sounds like a great idea. Peggy

Karen L 02-08-2001 06:36 PM

Hi all,
Been reading the boards quickly each day or so just haven't had time to post. Well now I do as I am sick again. Pretty sure I have pneumonia. Well see the doctor today to conferm that. I also have a wonderful case of laryngitis. I usually have it at least twice a year. So this must be the first. I'm not feeling real bad just tired. Partly because I'm not sleeping.

I worked yesterday two meetings about a 120 miles round trip from home. Got to drive home in the snow fall we are having. The snow fall is supposed to last until Friday.

Maria so glad to hear of your weight drop. :) :)** :) :) happy dance for you. Stay out of the water ! Sharks http://www.3fatchicks.com/ubb//nervous.gif

Dee so glad your DD is doing better. Enjoy your house keeper. When I was a teenager we lived in Pamama we had a lady who came in 3 times a week and did the cleaning, ironing and dishes. It was wonderful. My mother, to this day misses that woman. Me too I was spoiled rotten for 3 years.

Geri keep us posted on the progress your group makes. I truely beleive that any diet works as long as you work the program. It just so happens that WW is the one that I was able to make work for me. Good luck.

The month of febuary always seems to go by so fast. This is good as We leave on March the 10th for our winter getaway. I'm looking forward to getting out of this snow.

Well I'm goinG to try and go back to bed for a while. I'll check in later.

LilyG 02-08-2001 09:56 PM

Glenda: Congraulations on the new grandson! Really like that name to!
I still have 10 pounds to go to get to goal. Im stuck again. But I have been measuring myself monthly and I am losing inches like crazy. Almost ready for a new size. So it keeps me going!

Donna: Sorry to hear that Craig and Tanya house was broken into. Im sure she is spooked. Thats a scary thing to have happen. I know I would be scared. Not fun to move tho.

Peggy: Send him! House is ready to paint! You gamble like me. I go with my 20$ and thats it. Its fun but I always have a hard time spending any more than that. Got better things to do with my money. Course I never win either. But my 20$ lasts a long time!

Karen: Sorry you are so sick. You go crawl in that bed and stay there.
Pneumonia is nothing to to play around with. You take care of yourself. Lets us know what the DR says. Hope it isnt Pneumonia. Where are you going on your vacation?

Karen L 02-10-2001 06:24 PM

Turns out I didn't have pneumonia after all. Bronchitis is what ithe Doctor said. She gave me something new and by the next morning I was feel human again. Only thing is the pills are really hard on my stomach so have to take them when I eat. Not a good thing at 10:00 PM. But we do what we have to right.

This board is really quiet.

It's really cold here again. The snow is nice an white again. But in a few days it will be all dirty and ugly again. Supposed to be a really nice day today for skiers and snowmobilers. I do neither. Think we'll go to the movie and see that new Hanibal one maybe.

Talk to you guys later

Karen I am glad you are feeling better. That is a long drive in bad weather when you don't feel well. Let us know if Hannibal is any good. Lily look for my DH - I am going to overnite him to you tomorrow. The weather should break soon and he can get his construction business going again. We went to the Belterra Casino boat and I lost all My pennies. I never take more than $20. We ate at the buffet and I stayed in control. I have lost 2 pounds this past week. 42 more to go. Have a good weekend everyone. Peggy

LilyG 02-11-2001 12:24 AM

Karen: Bronchitis isnt fun either. But at least you got some pills to help.
Have fun at the movie! I had a hard time with the last one so I proably wont see this one.

Peggy: I will be looking for him! Congrats on the loss! 2# is super.

I finally lost something this week -.8

Have a great weekend!

flaggies 02-11-2001 05:58 AM

G'day all,

The board has been very slow.
Sorry to hear about your bronchitis Karen, pleased to hear at least you are now on the improve. :)
It has been a little cooler here the past few days, though still 32C.
I had a swim last week on a very hot morning and spoke to a lady walking her dog, after a couple of minutes I realised it was a 'girl' I used to see at playgroup when my son was 2!!! My son is now 27. Her and dh have moved just recenly and live 5 minutes walk from my place. It was really nice to meet up with her again after all this time.
We are leaving for Singapore on Saturday, we will be there for a week and then fly back via Melbourne, where my daughter lives, stay there for 2 nights and then back home.
Of course the weather in Singapore is very hot and humid at this time of the year.
A little trip to the US or Canada to cool down for a while would be good ;) ;)
Have a great day all
Cheers
Maria

PS

Lily and Peggy congratulations on your losses.
I have been strictly OP this week, finding it relatively easy, so should show a loss again.
I am bit worried what to eat whilst away, I think the safest would be to stay away from fried foods.
Cheers

Geri 02-11-2001 11:58 AM

KarenSorry about the bronchitis, but glad you are feeling better now. How was the movie?

Congrats on all you losers. Hope to be joining you all in the morning. I weigh on Tuesday nights with my group, but think I will continue with Sunday a.m. for this thread and for Dottis. I have been OP (for First Place) since Tuesday so hope their will be a loss. I really got discouraged with WW when their was only 1.75# loss in 3 weeks of being strictly OP. I had one error of miscounting some points for pretzels, but even with the miscount I was still OP. That is not why I changed to First Place. I have no axe to grind with WW---I think it is a marvelous plan. We had been kicking the idea around for a while about starting First Place and it just all came together a few weeks ago. The timing was just right. I just didn't want anyone to think I quit doing WW because of dissatisfaction. I know their are plateaus, etc. I just never hit one so early on.

Sure do miss Slavika. Does anybody else notice how quiet it is around here? :) Hope she is having fun. Maria, hope your trip is fun too. Don't be afraid of eating out. You can get a baked potato, salad, and some grilled shrimp or chicken almost anywhere. You are right about avoiding the fried food. If you keep focused on your goal, you will be fine.

I am fixing to start doing some plastic canvas Barbie furniture. I have the patterns for the living room and the bedroom. It will be a lot of work, but I hope it turns out well. I haven't done much of that and what I have done was rather simple. This looks pretty involved.

Karen L 02-11-2001 08:12 PM

Good morning all,

Well I think I am almost 100% again. Had a good night and the sleep sure helps.

We didn't stay in Brainerd for the movie as there wasn't going to be an after noon movie and don't like to fight the Saturday night crowds at the movie. Too many people and I can't breath.

Went to Walmart and bought a 6 ft tall bookcase. So now you can see the floor in my computer room again. :) It was getting so bad . WW drop ships all the new stuff and beleive me it's a lot.

Today we are baking a ham and DS and his family will be here for supper. :)

And to day my DD is back from Cancun. talked to her eariler in the week and she was having a blast. :)

Lily congrats on the .8 you are so close to goal that a .8 loss is a major thing. Just keep on keeping on . :)

Geri 02-12-2001 10:29 AM

Just checking in to post my results for the week. Of course this doesn't tell the true story because I didn't have the courage to weigh last week because I knew I had gained 4 or 5 pounds. This week shows .5 loss, but if I hadn't been such a chicken last week it would show a fantastic loss. At least I am on the downward spiral again. And I have faithfully kept all my First Place commitments this week.

30-3.25-1.75+1.75-1.75-.5=24.5

Trudy 02-13-2001 02:38 AM

Hi gals, hope everyone is having a great day.
Slavika e-mailed me over the weekend, and as predicted, she is having a great time. She is such a nice person, we all miss her.
Geri..I am sure you will do well with First Place. You sound very committed, and that is 1/2 the battle. Good you had a loss this week. I'm pulling for you. :D
Karen.. How's the bronchitis? I hope you are starting to feel better. Not sure I want to see "Hannibal", I read the review and is sure sounds gory. Was it you who had a relative diagnosed with Fibromyalgia? I am reading a good book called "Fibromyalgia and the Mind Body Spirit Connection". It is a 7-step practical guide to help learn how to use the strength of the connection of your mind, body, and spirit to overcome the symptoms, improve sleep and feel better. I feel it is a good book to recommend.
Lily.. I'm sure you feel great about dropping down another size. 10 lbs from goal already. You are doing just great.
Donna..Sorry Craig and Tanya had a break in. That is such a terrible invasion. I am still not completely over our break in. It leaves you feeling so vulnerable.
Glenda..Great news about the expected grandson. They've chosen a nice name.

Has anyone tried the new WW site? I am so disappointed with it. They really don't let you see too much without paying the fee of $12.95. I won't be going there.

Talk to you later...

survivor 02-13-2001 04:11 AM

Karen - We went to see "Hannibal" Saturday night. It was sold out almost as soon as the tickets became available. I know I would have seen it no matter what, but I just cannot recommend it to anybody. My son said, after the show, that is a very "disturbing" show, and I agree. It was almost just too much. We watched the first one on video before we went to the show, and you would be surprised at how less gory the first one is. I just cannot get some of those images from "Hannibal" out of my mind.

So proud of all the losses. I am floating along and not keeping to anything. I just want to get back on the straight and narrow so bad and I just keep messing up. I am so disgusted with myself.
Glenda

LilyG 02-13-2001 04:22 AM

Geri: Good for you! A loss is a loss. Sounds like you enjoy this new program and thats what is important.

Maria: Sounds like a fun trip! Enjoy it.

Trudy: Glad Slavika is having a good time. Course there no way she couldnt in Hawaii. :)

Karen: Glad you are getting back to normal!. Still take care of yourself so it doesnt come back.

Glenda: Well I for sure wont be going to see or Renting Hannibal then. I didnt like the first one and if this is worse then forget it. Im sure DH will rent it. But I will play on puter while he watches!

LilyG 02-13-2001 05:14 AM

Trudy: Forgot... Yes I checked at the WW site and was disappointed also.
I thought we, being paying memebers already would get to use the e-tools. But no, even with the pass code you cant even look until you give them a credit card. So I said no thanks and left. Wont pay more money on something that I can get free else where, or dont need.
I did want to check them out tho. Think its sad you cant even use before you decide if you want to or not. Most Software company's allow a trail period so I dont see why WW cant allow a trail deal to.

Didnt like the rest of the new site either so I wont be going back my self.

G'day all,

Well done Geri on your weight loss.
It is a wonderful cool day here today, we even have had a good drop of rain and the garden is loving it!
My loss this week .6 , I am a slow looser, so I am reasonably pleased I am on that downward spiral :D
Pleased to hear Slavika is having an enjoyable holiday, good for her.
Have a great day all

Hi everyone, It is so dull, gray and rainy here. I think I have a case of the "blahs". My painting lady called and is bringing me some stuff to paint for her - that will keep me busy. Maybe keep me from going into the kitchen and seeing if some new things like chocolate appeared. Have fun on your trip, Maria. Hannibal has not gotten good reviews here. I don't think I want to see it. It sounds too wierd for me. How's the Barbie furniture coming along, Geri? It sounds cute. I would take whatever loss I could. Why can you put on a couple of pounds overnight and then take a couple of weeks to take them off? Time for a quick walk. Peggy

Karen L 02-14-2001 12:55 AM

Well, After hearing about that movie i've decided not to see it. If a movie is going to affect me in any way i want to feel good!

Trudy Yes it was me who had a relative diagnosed with Fibromylgia. Turns out she didn't have it after all. She wouldn't accept that she really had it and went to see an allergest. Turns out she is allergic to dairy products. Once she got off them she felt like she could lick the world. :)

Once years ago we had a person break into our home while we were sleeping. My DH was sick and so were the kids so I was sleeping on the sofa so I could run between them when needed. Anyway DH woke up and saw someone trying to take the TV from the room where he was sleeping. He jumped out of the bed in a sick stuper and chased the man through the house . The man, on the way out grabbed my purse. The joke was on him I only had about 20 cents in there in those days we lived from hand to mouth. Any way we called police and they found nothing. The next morning I saw out my kitchen window my purse neatly set in the grass I guess the guy felt sorry for us even the 20 cents was there. I agree though that it leaves you feeling very vulnerable. I didn't sleep for weeks at night used to set up with a ball bat in my hands. As soon as it got daylight I was able to sleep. That went on for weeks.

Got to go. check you out later.
Glad Slavika is having a good time.

Trudy 02-14-2001 03:36 AM

Hi ladies... :D
I am sitting here with 3 sweaters on... we are having our furnace repaired, and the heat will be off for about 3 hours. My hubby was doing some furnace cleaning yesterday when he noticed that we had a problem. Sure enough, the Gas Co. came out and we need some parts replaced, but the real shocker was carbon monoxide was being emitted into the house at a low level. http://www.3fatchicks.com/ubb//nervous.gif I hadn't been feeling well for a few days, and blamed it on other things. I've had lots of headaches and nausea for days now. This repair job will cost us plenty $$$$$, but it will be worth it.
Karen.. That would be a nightmare, waking up to find someone in the house. I thought it was bad coming home to find someone had broken in, but your experience was definitely worse. We have an alarm system now, but when my DH was in the hospital I put chairs under the door knobs, it made me feel a bit safer. What a world we live in. http://www.3fatchicks.com/ubb//insane.gif
Peggy.. I have a new chocolate treat. I got it from Salle's Newsletter a while back. 1 packet of Fat Free Swiss Miss Hot Chocolate and 1 tsp. of decaf coffee. It tastes like Mocha Expresso. It is what saves me on the afternoons I can't stay out of the kitchen.
I agree with you, can gain 3 lbs on a weekend and it will take 1 month to lose it, if I am lucky.
Maria.. I was  ~ I thought you had gone to Singapore already. I guess it is this weekend that you go. Happy to hear you are down .6 ~ be very pleased about it. You are going in the right directon.
Lily.. I think it is the pits that WW has made their site so exclusive. Looks like we can go there just to get the recipe of the day. I made the Frosted Banana Muffins this week, and they were quite good for 2 pts a muffin. The site isn't good at all.
Glenda.. Last night Jay Leno had Gary Oldham on the show and they had a clip of Hannibal. Too graphic for me. I found Silence Of The Lambs hard to take.
Don't be disgusted with yourself, you are only human, and sometimes we just can't be perfect. Just keep trying, you will get back OP. Like Dotti said, "just one day at a time..."
Well, I am going to go and make supper..Deviled Salmon. It was a recipe I found on Dotti's board, and it is really quite good.

See you all later :D

G'day all,

After being all set to go to Singapore on Saturday, it was all changed yesterday!!!!
We are now leaving tomorrow morning for Hong Kong for at least 2 weeks.
Initially it threw me a bit as we had planned to visit our daughter on the way back from Singapore. She told me yesterday of the plans she had for when we would be there. She was very disappointed when I told her that our plans had changed.
However all is not lost, our flights have been changed and I will first fly to Melbourne and visit my daughter for 2 days before flying on to Hong Kong, dh will be going to Sydney to be briefed on what he has to do in Hong Kong and we should meet up in Hong Kong sometime on Sunday :) :)
I told dh that it is just as well that I can adapt to change :D
The other bonus is that it is not that hot in HongKong as it would have been in Singapore. So after initial disappointment and panic, it has probably worked out for the best. I don't know if I have any access to the 'net whilst away, but I will be thinking of you and will be doing my upmost to continue this downward weight spiral :)
Cheers
Maria

Thank you for the chocolate tip Trudy. It sounds simple enough and will calm the chocolate craving. I got that salmon recipe at Dotti's. I am glad to hear that it is good. Am going to try it next week. Maria have fun wherever you end up. My next door neighbor was robbed 2 years ago. She is a widow in her 80's and she still doesn't feel safe. We felt bad because we were home when it happened - our dog was barking like crazy. You feel violated. My son saw Hannibal last nite and he liked it so I know for sure that I would NOT. Peggy

LilyG 02-14-2001 08:21 AM

Maria: Great going on the loss! Have a fun trip! Sounds exciting!

Trudy: Oh my thats not good with the carbon monoxide leaking. Good thing your hubby found out there was a problem. The $$ will be well spent. I printed that recipe for the muffins but havent tried it yet.

Peggy: You will like that Hot Chocolate with the coffee it is very good! I love Mocha and this does it for me and not so many points!

Margot: Are you out there? Skinny Cows are in Safeway's now. I got some and they are pretty good. Only have vanilla tho. ALAS...

I was over at the WW new site. And was having trouble getting to the community recipe swap. Keep getiing the page about being a subcriber. I found that if I logged in again I was able to get to the recipes. As for the e-tools I would love to try them but It won't let me past the second page. Have sent a e-mail to Ann . We'll see what happens. She is pretty good about answering right away.

Trudy so glad you are getting your furnace fixed before something awful happened.
